I am 67 and 5'5". I could not imagine giving up my shorts. I have worn them my whole life. I do have them a little longer than I used to.

I'm 62 and wear shorts pretty much all summer. I do think that when we get older we shouldn't wear them too short. It's not just about confidence, it depends on how nice your legs are. I've seen a lot of older women wearing short shorts and they look terrible. 5" in the shortest even a petite woman should wear IMO.
Honestley, it's all about your comfort level. I still love a 5" inseam and feel comfortable wearing them. Now if other women want to think I don't look good, well, that's on them.😎

I'm 75 and I still wear shorts, and love them. Fortunately, my thighs are not heavy so I can wear the 5 inch seam shorts. I get compliments when I wear them too!

I have never been able to figure out why anyone wears shorts with a sweat shirt or long sleeve anything! If it is hot enough for shorts, why would you need a long sleeve sweater?
If it's linen then it's not hot. It's a breathable fabric and circulates the air.

It’s about what one’s legs look like, not one’s age. I’m 64 and show off my legs all the time, they look still look better than most American teenager’s, purely thanks to my DNA, no credit to me, except for keeping my weight down. I prefer wearing short skirts to shorts, though, I’m much more physically comfy in skirts, they don’t ride up like shorts do. Still, I wear shorts a lot, too, it depends on what I’ll be doing. Skorts have made a comeback lately, I didn’t like them in the past because of the hot, polyester panty-shorts they always had inside. But, I’ll try them again, the ones in all-natural fibers (rayon/viscose is good, too, this fabric breathes).

One of my favorite ways to utilitze a scarf during the hot summer months.
I miss not wearing shorts, I just have so many of those spider veins and I’m just so self conscious so I don’t wear them.
I love shorts in hot weather. I wear red cotton 5" shorts with a white cotton short-sleeved blouse, tied with a colorful silk scarf showing a seascape. I tie it in back so that the front looks like a tuxedo cumberbund. If I wear a belt, I place the buckle in the center of my back a la Brigitte Bardot, Jeanne Moreau, Anouk Aimee, Romy Schneider, Sophia Loren, G. Lollobrigida & other French & Italian actresses working in the 1950s, 1960s, early 1970s. Bardot, in particular, was a style icon popularizing what is now known as the Bardot neckline: a short colllar forming a hedge around the neck in a knit or lightweight fabric to a full, puffy ballerina knee-length skirt cinched at the waist with a wide belt & the buckle in the center of the back to ballerina flats since she was tall. Although I'm petite, I adapt whatever possible to shorts, skirts, slacks, dresses; I also belt blazers & dusters. I belt regular size jackets, wherever stylishly possible, to aapear taller.
I agree with your shorts selection from J.Crew & Banana Republic. I wear cuffed shorts & bought pleated off-white linen shorts from the latter that were shortened & eliminated the pleats for my petite frame a la Lana Turner (The Postman Always Rings Twice) with a white/cream shell along with either a wide copper belt/low-heeled sandals or chocolate brown sandals with a dark green center stone to a Missini scarf with dark brown, green, fuschia flowers/geometrics, tying it like an Obi scarf. With indoor AC, I'll wear a cream leather jacket or a short dickey blazer.

This was such a helpful video. It confirms with me that I can feel confident wearing shorts, especially that it is so hot here in Scottsdale, AZ. I purchased the same Lina pleated short in natural from Banana Republic that you are looking so stylish in. I also splurged on the matching vest and I absolutely love this look. Even though I am petite, I love wearing Bermuda shorts. I now have 5 pairs in various styles all in Linen. I did purchase a pair of white chino shorts from Talbots that I equally like. I am 67 and I will continue to embrace wearing shorts. Thank you Beth for giving us mature women permission to "rock" shorts.

I always used to love shorts on me. I have long and slim legs. Then at 38 I said to me: "Well, 2 more years and then I will stop wearing shorts, just because I thought it would be "not age appropriate" any longer. But I did loved them so much... Now I'm 64, my legs are still slim and long and I still wear them. Sometimes when it's colder or in the evening, I wear them with (thin and nude now or black/grey/brown in fall/winter) tights. Yes, it looks even better when I style them elegantly.😊

I’m 64 and wear a 5” inseam in shorts and because I’m 5’3” it works for me. I live in shorts (mostly linen and jean shorts, linen flowy pants, and cotton or linen short dresses in the Texas heat all summer. I love J Crew’s selection of linen shorts and I recently tried Quince for the first time and love their linen pull on shorts. How do you feel about Quince’s quality? I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked it and can’t beat the prices. You look cute in everything you put on Beth! I love the scarf idea.
Give me all the linen all summer long. I do like Quince. Their price point is excellent but when I put them head to head with Jenni Kayne or FAHERTY the luxury brands are better. But they’re pricier.

I wear heels, but they’re not high, which is 3 inches or taller. I think sandals with 2-inch, block heels look great with shorts. I’m small, I want the extra height, so long as the shoes are super-comfortable. Footwear has improved so much since the pandemic, there are now lots of mid (about 2-inch) options available, for the first time in my life. I never could tolerate a single pair of high heels, the arch pain is excruciating, but I don’t always want to wear complete flats, either. A low, 1 to 1.5-inch wide heel is actually more comfy for me than flats and I can go up to about 2.5 inches.
I wear long shorts because I have unattractive legs, so I don’t use the finger rule, I’m 5’5” slim 118# and wear 13” inseam.
Wearing shorts means daily leg shaving which takes a steady hand and time. I may stick with jeans and light pants.

It doesn't always mean daily shaving. There are alternatives that can allow hair removal to last longer.
You always look good. Shorts and I aren't a good paring with heavy thighs.

Dear Beth, Your fashion is beautiful, but many women have cellulite and shorts are not suitable.
I think we all have imperfections that we battle with. Style is always about personal preference and stepping out the door in confidence so I completely understand your viewpoint. The good news is there are so many fashion options in 2024.
