Your feedback is very much appreciated as I'm always trying to improve my videos and make them as useful as possible for the Shot Scope community. Also, whilst I'd say I know the devices fairly well, there will always be some features and functionality that I'm not fully aware of or has changed since I last read/tested, so i'm always happy to learn from other users too!
      At least you took the time to watch the video and offer excellent input which is very much appreciated!

      Shot scope has been working hard to fix these issues and have mentioned that the issues some users are experiencing with freezing or cutting off will be sorted within 10 days. I had a couple of issues when I first started using it (pre-release) but it has been flawless since the 4th firmware update around 3 weeks ago.
      Glad the tip about assigning the tags has helped you as without this, it’ll not properly track your strokes.

    They continue to improve the X5. Another major improvement appeared today. For the first time, the Dashboard makes use of the manual score entered during the round. Now, when you are in the "sign off" process, it highlights holes where the score the watch computes is different than the score the player recorded during the round (such as when you had to take a penalty drop). Excellent!
    At this point, I consider almost all my problems resolved. I have only one item left on my wish list. It still happens sometimes that I accidentally bump the touchscreen and cause it to record a default 2-putt and incorrect pin location. I notice it, but there is nothing I can do. I wish I could just hit the back button to back up so that I can record the correct putt count and pin location. The only option I have found is to go ahead and record a score, then edit the scorecard. Editing the scorecard does get you the putt count and score, but takes longer, and doesn't change the fat that the pin location is incorrect.

    • @AndysGolfBlog
      @AndysGolfBlog  Год назад

      Can’t you just go into the scorecard, back to the score entry for that hole, put in your score then re-do pin collect to sort this incorrectly captured pin issue, Carl?

    • @carlr2837
      @carlr2837 Год назад +1

      @@AndysGolfBlog I have done that, but I'm not sure it captures the pin location the second time around, plus it takes some time to do so. Being able to back up would be a lot easier. I did find another option, too. I tried changing hole back to the current hole, and that put me back into pin-collect mode. I'm doing better about not touching the screen, anyway, so this is a minor complaint. The watch is working very well now, on the whole.

      Hey, that's great to hear and glad the discount worked for you. I'm more than happy to offer some help and support to fellow Shot Scope users absolutely anytime at all, even if they have or haven't bought a product after watching my videos.
      I'm actually planning on creating a full review video for the X5 based on using it for over the past year and a handy tutorial for users, like I have with the G5 and other Shot Scope products.
      I hope the watch works out for you. Just take your time setting it up and follow the steps carefully. Also, give it a few rounds to bed in as it can take a bit of getting used to but I honestly think it's a great golf watch and use it myself every time I play.
      Would be more than happy to play 18 holes anytime! My grandad was a member of Milnathort for many years and used to take me there in the school holidays to play a couple loops of 9 with him and his buddies! Many, many fond memories of that course and going out with him. He's 92 no so no golf for him but I guess that's par for the course at that age!!

      Hi Jason - I'm actually in the process of writing a review/producing a video for the X5 for my golf blog based on 40 rounds recorded over the past year. In truth, I've been using Shot Scope products since 2016 and barely ever have tracking issues (apart from when two shots are taken from the same location). I wanted to hold off creating a review so that I could properly test it out over a prolonged period of time.
      To be honest, quite a few of the issues users have with tracking are down to user error - often people not following the instructions (wearing on the wrong wrist, not taking practise swings etc.). I've provided support via my channel, golf blog and the official Shot Scope support forum for a number of years, and it never fails to amaze me how many issues could be avoided by users just following the instructions. Shot Scope advise to give the device around 3-5 rounds of usage for it to calibrate and get used to your swing for performance tracking etc.
      As a side note - many of the bugs that early reviewers have mentioned in other reviews which were present on the X5 just after launch have now been resolved.
      I honestly think the X5 is a great golf watch. It's not perfect, and has its flaws, but for the features and money, I think it's great. Also, you get a 30 day money back guarantee, so can use it for a few rounds, see how it works and decide if you want to keep it.
      Please do feel free to ask any questions that you may have. If you do decide to go ahead, please consider using my link below and 15% discount code 'ANDYSGOLF'. Of course, that's entirely your choice but it would be appreciated.

      @AndysGolfBlog  Год назад

      You can do this but I normally shy away from giving this as a tip because you shouldn't need to do this. The Shot Scope watches are designed to track without contact, so if users are having to do this, whilst it will help record strokes, it's probably masking an issue with either the product or the user! That said, you are right, it does work!

      @@AndysGolfBlog the only club I even think about doing this is the putter because of the small movement and mainly a tap in putt. I find it helps shotscope to pick up the shot.

  • @carlr2837
    @carlr2837 Год назад +3

    I upgraded, to the x5, and here are my comments. The X5 definitely looks nicer, and has a nicer band, and the club sensors fit better. Battery life on the V3 is about twice as long, lasting a full ten hours, enough that I was able to use it for 2 rounds in a day a couple of times. Battery life on the X5 is only about 6 hours, so you better have a full charge if you hope to make a single round. As the battery ages, and loses life, I worry that it won't even make a single round. Additionally, the V3 charges at least twice as fast as the X5.
    The X5 does keep score, but then apparently just discards it, and doesn't send it to the dashboard. I would have expected that, if you entered a 6 for a hole, and the watch tracked a 4, when you went to edit and sign off the round it would flag that hole for your attention. Nope. Scores you entered are forgotten, and it's up to you to remember which holes are different, so you better keep a paper scorecard as well. The x5 often gets the putts wrong, too, so you should put that on the paper scorecard as well, because you will need it.
    Being able to edit the pin location is quite nice, and I also like the "last shot" feature on the X5. All those, however, go to waste if the watch is not accurate, and the X5 is definitely not. It often puts shots in the wrong location, and records the wrong club. On my last round, it put balls in places I never was, and recorded erroneous clubs in probably 15 cases. In fact, it recorded that I hit my "LW" at least 5-7 times, and while I do have one, it wasn't even in my bag that day. Even worse, it didn't even save any information at all for the last three holes, and I had to enter them completely from memory in the dashboard.
    I will say that prior to the recent firmware upgrade the X5 was not having nearly as many issues, other than the very short battery life. I am going to go back to the V5 for awhile, at least until there is another firmware upgrade to the X5. Right now the X5 is a very nice watch with a lot of potential, but it has an exceptionally short battery life, and worse, it just doesn't work correctly.

      I have shared many of your complaints and niggles about the X5. I put it my watch box after a few bad rounds too, and just went back to the V3. It was better after using it for two rounds this week. Hopefully, and I’m fairly confident they will get it working as intended shortly.

    • @carlr2837
      @carlr2837 Год назад +1

      @@navykip After a couple of firmware updates, it is now working properly. I did have two other problems. First, it would often auto-record a 2-putt par. Turns out I unconsciously put my hands behind my back to watch other putt, sometimes, which brushed the touch screen against my back. Also, one firmware update must have kicked it back to meters, so it was giving wrong numbers for awhile.

    The latest firmware update seems to have solved the battery problem. Now a round usually uses about half the battery life, versus 80-85% before. They also added a "y" to the display to indicate that you are in yards, and probably an "m" to indicate when you are in meters.The watch is now very accurate about picking up which club you use, and almost never misses a shot. It only has a few annoyances left.

    • @AndysGolfBlog
      @AndysGolfBlog  Год назад

      Yeah, I uploaded a short highlighting the changes with the latest firmware updates recently. The scoring checker is much improved now too as it asks you to confirm against recorded shots and not standard par as it did before. Also, I like how you can now change distance units mid round rather than having to end the round if you’re accidentally in m or y.
      I didn’t hear anything about battery improvements with the firmware update and I’ve not noticed any real improvements in all honesty, but it’s great they’ve addressed a few issues and I’m sure it’ll continue to go from strength to strength!

    Unlocking the watch, and getting to the game menu would be two tips that would help all users. Especially since the 2.0.84 firmware changed the unlock options adding the swipe up to unlock which is not in the user guide.

      Thanks Ian. I have a separate video coming soon which shows all of the different ways to navigate the watch and highlights some of the useful shortcuts like you've mentioned. The one thing that is quite tricky is that the frequent firmware updates being released (based on user feedback and bug fixes) means that videos can quite quickly become outdated. Hopefully this one is still useful for a while, though! Great idea - so thanks for sharing!

      Sorry to hear you've had issues. I've honestly not experienced issues since the 2nd firmware update just after launch. The battery should be easily able to manage one full round with some spare but does struggle a bit to last for two rounds. I've managed two rounds at my home courses where I don't interact with the watch all that often but when playing an away course over 2 rounds, I managed to get to the 17th green on the second round before it died. Not great but probably acceptable for most users who use for single rounds only.

      Thanks for the kind comment! Sadly not, and this is something mentioned in my upcoming review of both the X5 and V5. Whilst it helps prolong battery life, it would be great to either have the screen show the selected option for longer, or at least allow the user to alter the duration, as it would be to allow the user to alter brightness. I've fed both back to Shot Scope as I feel these would be good future additions via firmware updates!

    I recently bought V5, I am experiencing problems with the tags. I must physically touch the tag to my watch face to get the tags to connect and show which club I am using.

    • @AndysGolfBlog
      @AndysGolfBlog  14 часов назад

      Sorry to hear this, David. You should never have to tap the tags onto the watch face for strokes to be registered. The antenna that works with the tags is actually located on the strap without the buckle. The tag needs to be within a few centimetres of that strap for the tag to be registered. Issues with tags are usually caused by the following:
      1) the watch being worn on the wrong wrist and/or the user selecting the wrong wrist in the settings menu when setting the watch up
      2) the watch being worn too far up the wrist so the tag is too far away from the strap
      3) users not taking 2/3 practise swings to give the watch enough times to register the shot
      If you want to check your tags are working okay, go into the settings menu on the watch and look for the 'Read Tags' option. Then, hold each tag close to the strap without the buckle one by one to check whether or not the tags are being read. This needs to be done from the general watch menu and not whilst you're playing.
      If there are any tags that aren't registering or if they seem to be okay when testing but you're still having issues out on the golf course, drop Shot Scope a message and they'll be happy to help - support@shotscope.com.
      Cheers

    Hi Andy. Thank you for this video and for your previous help to me with my questions on the X5 previously. Thanks also for the tip about the practise swing. I didn't know about this before. Might this explain why the X5 wasn't picking up all of my shots on some of the holes?

    • @AndysGolfBlog
      @AndysGolfBlog  Год назад +1

      Hi Robert. No worries at all. Thanks for watching and for the comment - appreciated.
      If you’re not taking practise swings then it’s completely possible that’s why your shots aren’t being tracked. Not a guarantee but possible. As long as you clearly follow the guidance from shot scope then if it’s not working as expected you can tell them the steps you are following but still experiencing issues.
      Other things to consider is how far the tag is from the watch strap, if you’re wearing it on the correct wrist and have correctly chosen the wrist on the app, and that you aren’t wearing any other watches or magnetic bands at the same time. These are just some things to consider.
      Thanks,
      Andy

      They certainly offer increased range and are more durable. They also allow you to screw them further into the grip. I’ve always been unsure about issues with tags because I’ve used shot scope products since the v1 and honestly never have issues with tagging. The v3 worked flawlessly for me, as does the x5. Of course, there are the odd shots here and there that are missed with these devices but usually two shots from the exact same location, where only one is recorded. In my experience, missed shots are usually down to user error (not in all cases and not necessarily in your case). I’ve spoken with many users who have reported tracking issues but I’ve then discovered that it has been down to not following the instructions, wearing the watch on the wrong wrist or not taking enough practise swings. However, there could occasionally be issues with the watch too, of course. I have found my X5 to be really steady, though, especially after the last firmware update.

    Great tips there Andy, the first one would help a lot of people for sure! 😅

    Should I take practice swings for my 2 foot tap in putts Andy? 😉
    One last thing. A few evenings ago I left my watch in my bag and in the morning I tried to turn it on to see it's battery life but it was completely dead. Managed to get enough juice into it to play 9 holes but was a bit put out for sure. Is is possible that the buttons were being constantly pushed and causing the battery to drain?

    • @AndysGolfBlog

      Thanks very much for watching and for leaving a kind comment, James - much appreciated. The starting and pausing round is really helpful but just beware that it will still use battery and don’t forget to unpause (something I’ve done before).
      I’m also always amazed at the number of users I see slating the shot scope products but openly admit when asked that they’ve not read any of the guidance on how to use the device. I know we live in a digital age and that the X5 isn’t too hard to use, but you’d think if it wasn’t working then you’d read the manual. This is exactly why when I produce my review for the X5 or other products that I only ever share my open and honest experience, not the experience or issues others have as I cannot be sure they’re using the devices correctly. At least I know when I’m sharing my thoughts and experiences with people looking to spend their hard-earned cash, I’ve done my homework and am following the guidance.
      This is an interesting point about the watch running out of battery. It could be that a button was stuck and the watch tried to repeatedly restart, until it ran out of battery. Worth checking the crown button (top right) doesn’t get stuck down in any way (keep turning and pressing then try pressing on the sides rather than the top of the button) to see if it gets stuck

    Hi Andy I have a question for you about the battery life. If your round takes 4 hours how much battery do you use? Do you have any tips for conserving battery life during a round?
    Also I’ve noticed mine loses a lot of charge when it’s switched off. On Saturday I charged it to 95% and since then it’s gone down to 72% and it’s been switched off in my drawer. Have you noticed the same with your watch?

    • @AndysGolfBlog
      @AndysGolfBlog  Год назад

      Hi James,
      Last double rounder I played I managed to get to the 71st hole (both rounds were just over 4 hours) before it cut out. I’ve recently played two rounds and had no issues, with the last round leaving me on 48% after I finished (it was only 3 hours, though and my home course so was only just checking general yardages and tracking shots).
      Best way to conserve battery dying your round would be to probably not use the move pin option and last shot options unless need be. Generally speaking, the more you interact with the watch the more the battery will drain, however, this shouldn’t be at the expense of using the watch as you want to, though.
      It shouldn’t lose charge when switched off and that’s not something I’ve noticed in all honesty, but might be worth checking with shot scope directly. Will have to test that one myself.

    Have had tracking issues every round with the V3, missing between 10-30 shots each time. Using same club back to back shots has been part of it. Still enjoy the V3 but not sure if it's worth $300 for an upgrade; only new feature I'd enjoy is the pause.

    • @AndysGolfBlog
      @AndysGolfBlog  Год назад

      That's an awful lot of shots to be missing each round. I'm lucky if any of my shot scope devices miss a single shot during a round. The only time they do is when I play two shots from relatively close proximity. e.g. two from a bunker or maybe getting one out of the bunker and the next shot being from very close by.
      In my experience, if the device is missing as many shots as you've mentioned there, user error could be a factor. Sometimes it's down to maybe not taking practise swings, not having set up tags correctly, wearing on the incorrect wrist, wearing wrist bands that might interfere or having the tags too far from the strap. Of course, i'm not saying you're guilty of any of these or it's your fault that it's not working as it should, but those are some of the things I've found before.
      Have you contacted Shot Scope support to see if they can resolve it?

However one dog leg hole I play consistently misses 3w drive to get to the corner and 3w to the green. 200+yd difference and reads one shot majority of times.

If you’re following the steps and missing that many then you’ll definitely need to contact shot scope, especially also if the correct tag is being shown on the screen!

      With regards to your question, the answer is no. Once you collect the data the app shows you all of you club distances, which you can open as you play, of course, but this data isn’t provided on the watch with the exception of the three longest clubs, which are shown on the overview map. With the new maps feature (I have a separate video on this), X5 users can see their three longest clubs based on the last 10 rounds overlaid on the hole map, so you can see how far those clubs will go, overlaid on the map. Not quite a caddy but still very useful. I suspect a caddy will be added to some shot scope devices in the future, but probably more likely a new watch and not the X5. We shall see!

      If it's showing on the watch that the 8I tag has been tagged but the shot isn't actually being tracked then there's definitely something a miss here. 20 shots is a huge amount to be missing. I've played my last two rounds at two different courses and the watch hasn't missed a single shot.
      The only other thing I can think of is whether there's an issue with how you've assigned the tags...but if you're an experienced Shot Scope user, as it sounds like with the reference to the V3, then I can only assume you've done that correctly.
      If 20 shots are being missed then you definitely need to contact Shot Scope about that because something is a miss!

    Thanks for the video Andy, however I’ve got to say I’ve been slightly disappointed with the performance of the X5 so far after 5 rounds. I only had the V3 for 3 rounds and took advantage of the discount to “upgrade” to the X5 however in my opinion the V3 performs far better than the X5 so far. To be fair to shot scope they seem to release firmware updates relatively quickly however I feel the X5 has been released too early and that it didn’t go through the proper testing and now the users who have purchased the watch are in fact live testing their product. One thing that has also annoyed me and is something I didn’t check prior to purchasing the watch is that the shot scope editing function uses google earth for course mapping so they have no control over the imagery their application is using. Unfortunately the Google earth imagery of my local course is covered in snow so editing a round is extremely difficult. I have contacted Google to see if they can update the imagery as shot scope have said they have no control over that. Given shot scope advertise mapping of 40k courses and will have soon sort of contract in place to use Google imagery however they do not seem to have a SLA in place to ensure the imagery of the 40k courses they advertise is correct.

      Hi Darren, thanks for taking the time to watch the video and leave a comment. Hope you found it to be useful.
      Interesting points that you have raised here. I guess the first thing to note is that every shot scope user will have had a different experience so far and I can only speak from my own personal experience but the X5 has been performing well for me. I’ve used the V3 religiously since release and have found it to be flawless, so was hoping for the same from the X5. During my early rounds, there some slight issues but the firmware releases have sorted these out for me and in my last 4/5 rounds, the device has worked really in in terms of GPS and shot tracking, managing to pick up every shot. I think it’s worth bearing in mind that shot scope will have gone from testing with a small team to having thousands of users using the device in a small space of time, and, as with most new tech devices, issues will be found. They’re actually only a really small company so probably don’t have the resource to test at the same scale as their devices are now being used. What is encouraging to see is that they’re fixing issues and quickly releasing firmware, rather than just simply ignoring issues. Granted, it can be frustrating for users with issues but I’m sure they’ll get there. I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve updated my iPhone and noticed issues straight away, which apple have then had to release patches for in the proceeding days - hence I no longer update immediately after one is released. If apple, arguably the biggest company on the planet, have bugs and issues with their products, then it shows I can happen to any one. I think we’ll see a marked improvement with the X5 over the coming weeks as they continue to fix the issues, but they can only fix those shared with them, so it’s important to keep notifying them when things don’t go to plan.
      Re the mapping - I can totally see why that must be annoying because if the map is covered in snow then it must be difficult for you and their mapping team to identify rough, greens and boundaries. I’m not sure of the solution for this one and of course, that’s for Shot Scope to work out - I just hope that they manage to find a resolution for you with this one and feel lucky that my course isn’t covered in snow on the imagery - quite possible, being from Scotland!

    Hi Andy after looking at several reviews there is a general census that this watch has a low battery life

    • @AndysGolfBlog
      @AndysGolfBlog  5 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Raj,
      First thing to mention is that A LOT of reviews were from almost immediately after the X5 was released where there were issues with the battery life. Shot Scope released two firmware updates within 3 months of release, which address small bugs and the battery issue. As mentioned in my VS video, the X5 battery life isn't incredible but it should last for one round minimum and still have battery left from a full charge. I have never not managed at least one round with mine, and have actually managed two full rounds from a single charge twice, with a third test lasting 52 holes.
      If the watch fails to last a full 18 holes from a full charge then the watch is faulty and you should return it. The firmware updates have definitely improved the battery.
      For the reasons above, this is exactly why I never release a review video immediately after a product has been released, especially if there are issues. I prefer to properly test over numerous rounds (currently over 40 with my X5) to be able to give an proper review once the manufacturer has had an opportunity to iron out any bugs discovered when the product is released to market.

Had a few issues but through this feed and videos I've managed to get through a good few. However, my watch seems to go a bit scatty at times. Like keeps flicking into scorecard/penalty option. When I go back to the main screen. It just immediately finds its way back again. Another thing it does is change holes randomly. When I change back the shot tracking for my last shot is gone. Very frustrating. There was light rain, which is supposed to be ok but I've read the watch face does not like to be wet at all. Is there any tips for this?

    • @AndysGolfBlog
      @AndysGolfBlog  Год назад +1

      Hey there! Firstly, thanks for getting in touch. I'm really glad the videos have helped you and also that the discount code gave you money off - glad to hear it!
      With regard to your issues, let's see if we can find some solutions.
      The watch shouldn't move to the penalty screen without you going into it manually either through the main menu or by pressing the score on the watch screen. It will automatically go to the pin collect view when on the green but it shouldn't go into the scorecard without you pressing. Do you have the lock disabled? If so, you might want to enable this again.
      The shot tracking for your previous shot will always disappear when you move between holes - this is also the same for the last shot distance when you record your next shot. If you've noticed your watch moving between holes randomly, I'd suggest checking that the course is up-to-date. You can do this via the 'Courses' option within the app - check to see if updates are available. If this issue persists, it could be that Shot Scope may need to re-map your course. You can contact them directly to get this done for you (usually within 24 hours).
      The device screen may struggle with light rain which isn't uncommon for these types of devices. My phone works in the same way, even with light rain. If it helps, I'd suggest using the crown to navigate and enter menus (turn to navigate and press in to enter) whilst the watch face is wet. Alternatively, trying to keep it dry might give you a better result but I think using the crown in wet conditions is easier. Truth be told - I tend to use the crown more than the touch screen.
      Anyway, hope this helps!
      Andy

    Hi Andy, I’ve used my new X5 for 3 rounds now and every time it’s ended the round before I finished. I played two different course and it ironically ended on the 17th on both courses and then again yesterday but when I was only half way through the round. I know the guys at Shot Scope are working hard to resolve the problem but I’ve now put my new X5 back in the box until there is a new firmware update to solve the bug. I’m reverting back to my faithful V3. It’s a shame really as I really like the X5 and was just getting used to all the new features. Have other users had the same problem and to the same degree as me?

      Hi Paul,
      Really not too sure about this one. I’ve honestly not experienced any crashing with my X5. I recorded another full round yesterday for an on course vlog and have the time, score and steps after 18 to show after my round. It’s a shame it’s cutting out for you but maybe I’m just a lucky one. They did mention that they’re working on a fix for this so hopefully it’ll come soon and you can get back to using the X5. I totally understand that this must be frustrating for you and anyone else experiencing this issue.

      I've had these problems as well, but most started with the last firmware update. Yesterday it ended my round 3 holes early, but it also recorded many shots with the wrong club, often my lob wedge, which I left at home yesterday and didn't even have in my bag. It also recorded me taking shots from places I never was.
      Like you, I'm going back to the V3 for awhile.

      That one is very strange. If it's stating you used a LW which you didn't even have on you I'd definitely recommend going back through your set up in the My Bag area of your account and check there are no issues. Assuming you'll have that set up properly but that does sound very odd.

I’ve found this has reduced the number of errors but didn’t totally eliminate the problems. Saying aIl this, I do have full faith in Shot Scope and they are working hard to resolve the issues and they will sort the problems out but until they do, I will be returning to my V3 as I’m spending far too much time reviewing and editing rounds.

      @@AndysGolfBlogI played another 9 holes with the X5, and had no unusual clubs recorded. As I played, I also made sure to look at the watch after almost every stroke to make sure the correct club was recorded. There were a couple of things I needed to edit after the round, but nothing unusual.
      After your suggestion, I did look at the My Bag section, and I hadn't fully set up the lob wedge, since it wasn't in the bag. For the LW tag, it just had "default default" for the club, so I put the correct club in. I don't see why the watch would have claimed I used it, when neither the club nor tag were with me, but it will be back in the bag at some point, so I'm glad you suggested that I check the setup. (It's out of the bag now because I'm experimenting with various clubs between my 5W an 5i, and I took out the LW, which I rarely use, to make room for an extra club to experiment with.)

Occasionally, I have walked close to a green and it automatically changes, but I would like to still see the distance? Thanks.

      That’s great news, Mark. Knowing shot scope and their products as well as I do I always had faith in them to be able to resolve the issues as quickly as they could and I’m happy to hear that you’ve given them a chance and the latest firmware update seems to have worked for you. I know they’ve another one coming for the crashing that some users have experienced, so the only way is up as far as I’m concerned.
      Regarding the pin collect screen, you have two options. You can either just leave it displayed as your shot will still be tracked from off of the green anyway, even if that screen is showing. Granted, you won’t see the distances but probably won’t need these if you’re right next to the green anyway.
      The second option is to use the change hole menu (not on screen but in the Game Menu) to move hole then back to the hole you’re playing. I’d suggest doing this off of the green so that it doesn’t go back to the pin collect screen again.
      Hope this helps!
      Cheers,
      Andy

    • @AndysGolfBlog
      @AndysGolfBlog  Год назад +1

      The score you enter on the watch whilst you play is not yet linked to the shots tracked. For example, if 4 shots were tracked on a par 4 and you took 4 shots, your enter your score as 4. If the watch, for some reason, only tracked 3 of those shots, the score at the end of the round for that hole would show as 3, even if you entered 4 as your score.
      Shot scope are, as far as I’m led to believe, working on linking the shots tracked with the score you enter, but that update hasn’t been released yet.
      I’d you’re wanting to learn more about how to properly edit your round (Including adding/removing shots) check out the other videos on my channel where I show you how to edit on both the mobile app and the desktop online editor.

    Why is the full User Guide offered as a PDF image file instead of a string searchable file with active links? ShotScope know how to create searchable PDFs with active links - the e-documents are examples of these files. The V3 guide was searchable but had no active links. So why has ShotScope gone backwards on this so as to make user access to valuable information so much more difficult?

    • @AndysGolfBlog
      @AndysGolfBlog  Год назад

      Definitely agree with this. I tried searching earlier to find some information on manual putting and had to manually (excuse the irony) search for the text. A searchable electronic document is pretty much the standard these days and would also be more useful for users using assistive technology such as screen readers.

    Your take on the synchronise issue sounds odd. If you cannot get a connection for a preloaded course without a synchronise action first, what's the point of having 36,000 preloaded courses? The V3 could connect to any of the preloaded courses without synchronisation. Are you really sure that connection to a preloaded course is impossible without synchronization?

    • @AndysGolfBlog
      @AndysGolfBlog  Год назад

      Yes, this is actually a minor factual issue on my part, however, I left it in there because if anything, it actually encourages or makes users aware to go into the courses section of the app and check for updates before playing. If not, they'll likely miss course updates, which happen quite often.

    The watch has had a few firmware upgrades, and it seems to be more stable, and in particular, it never seems to make up clubs anymore. I'm still having two problems with it. One is that it seems touchy around the green. I will putt and then go to put in my putts, and the pin location, but it's already recorded me for a 2-putt and a par. I then have to go back to the scorecard and edit it, which is annoying since it happens about 3-4 times a round.
    The second problem is more serious, and has caused me to go back to the V3. The yardages are consistently wrong, about 5-15% low. If I am standing next to the 200 yard mark (200 to the center of the green), it will tell me it is 190 to the back and 175 to the center. Next to the 100 yard mark it will tell me 95 to the back, and 90 to the center. This is totally not acceptable. I played using the V3 today, and it was nice to have correct yardages again.

    • @AndysGolfBlog
      @AndysGolfBlog  Год назад

      Hi Carl.
      Very strange about those two issues to be honest. I played two rounds with the X5 over the last two days (having seen your comment beforehand) and was on the look out for similar issues but neither occurred. I used the X5 alongside my laser to check distances and they were absolutely fine - as they are at my home course. If yours are out and different from the V3 on the same course then you 100% have to report that to Shot Scope. What I would say is that GPS devices are never going to be 100% accurate with the current tech, and can often be around 10 yards out - that's just how the tech works. I guess 5-10 yards of a difference, users can deal with, but not 25, so do report this.
      With regards to the pin collect automatically capturing and moving to the next hole, that's a strange one. I've experienced a similar issues when I walk onto the green then say back off to drop my clubs off then back onto the green. I don't usually notice this when I have my trolley because I walk around the green first then onto it with my putter. However, with my carry bag, I tend to walk across the green, drop off the bag and then back to my ball if that's the shortest route. Doing this can cause issues, so wonder if that's what you've done too?
      If not, then again, please do feed back to Shot Scope so that they can look into it!

      @@AndysGolfBlog I played one round Tuesday with the V3, and distances were always correct, and pin collection worked correctly, but I had old problems that I have had in the past with the V5 entirely missing shots, because I forgot to always check the watch to make sure it detected the club correctly. I went back to the X5 for a round yesterday, and once again, the yardages were consistently 10 yards short or so, as compared to the yardage stakes, and as compared to my playing mate's Bushnell watch, causing me to under-club a few times. On about 4 holes I had to go back to scoring mode because it had already reported a 2-putt par, and moved on to the next hole.
      I made this comment on another thread and someone replied that he has also seen the issue with it auto-recording a 2 putt par. As I think about it, the problem is probably due to the fact that, in all other circumstances, the screen is automatically locked until you unlock it, but when it goes into putting mode, the screen is unlocked and awaiting touch input. Therefore, once you are on the green, even a slight brush against the screen will record something unwanted. When I play Saturday, I will be extra careful not to brush against the watch accidentally when I am on the green, and I bet that will prevent the problem.
      I will report the distance issue to Shot Scope.

      @@AndysGolfBlog I thought about it, and I'm pretty sure I know the problem with it recording the automatic 2-putts. When I am waiting for my turn to putt, and watching others putt, without thinking about it, I sometimes put my hand behind my back, or cross my hands behind my back. That would press the face of the watch against my back, and it is probably recording the putt count and score at the default (2-putt, par).

    • @carlr2837
      @carlr2837 Год назад

      @@AndysGolfBlog One problem solved. I consciously avoided putting my hands behind my back while watching others putt, and never had a case where putts and scores were auto-recorded. I'm sure I will still occasionally do it, but when I do, at least I will know why it happened.
      As for the yardage question, I specifically took note of one shot. I was standing at the 150 yard marker, and the watch said I had 136 yards to the center of the green (which I didn't believe). When I uploaded it to the dashboard, it says that I had 149 yards to the green, which is essentially correct. So, the watch is reporting the correct position, but not computing the yardages correctly.

      Glad you managed to find a solution to the other problem. We’re always learning with these devices. I remember that I use to carry my putter across the green in my left hand by the grip. Then I noticed random putts appearing (this was with the v3), so I decided to start carrying it by the neck and the issue stopped, so I now always just carry like that. Definitely a learning curve but at least you’ve shown patience with it!

      In my experience with shot scope watches, they do take a few rounds to settle in. Not sure why it is but it’s not uncommon to miss a few shots initially but by around the 4/5th round, it shouldn’t have any real issues. If yours didn’t track any shots at all, I can only assume it was faulty, which is a shame. 😞
