  • Watercolour is very gentle on brushes, compared with other paints like oils or acrylics, but watercolour brushes still enjoy a bit of TLC every now and then. I suggest giving your watercolour brushes a proper clean and condition a couple of times a year, or perhaps once a season. All always, it depends how often you use them. You may like to give them a good clean after a painting is finished if you've worked with very staining colours. (This will also clean make-up brushes.)
I use the Masters Brush Cleaner and Preserver, but you can use the same techniques with other brands or even your regular shampoo and conditioner.
I've shown an old jar of the cleaner, two Raphael 8404 sable brushes - one a couple of years old and one from last century! and a couple of Da Vinci natural hair brushes - a flat and a squirrel mop. I've also shown a scrubber brush from royal & Langnickel. The water container is available from Dick Blick or a similar one from Jacksonsart.
