- This is our first time ever listening to Godsmack. We watched Voodoo on a live stream, which inevitably got blocked. It seems like streams get blocked more often than not. Record labels have it out for reactors I guess.

Godsmack has sooooo many styles…..PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do more!!!!!!!!!
Real shit. Godsmack is super versatile...they're in for a treat with this group
Yes please!!
But do they though? Lol jk
They have one style.... Kick ass
Somebody yelled "Voodoo is about heroin addiction isn't it?" and Sully laughed and said "No, no, no, no, f*** no. It's about the movie 'The Serpent and The Rainbow' 100%. We all love that movie and I wrote the song while watching it so if you do the whole Pink Floyd-Wizard of Oz thing with Voodoo and that movie, the song explains its self to what is going on with the film.". He then explained outside of a drinking problem years ago, he never used heroin so he would have no idea how to write a song of its powerful addiction (even his recent autobiography confirms he has never used heroin).
The bands name, according to Sully, was a story about making fun of a friend years ago with a cold sore or something on their lip. The next day, he woke up with one and somebody commented "It looks like God smacked you in the face for making fun of the other guy". But Robbie Merrill said he liked the name because of the Alice in Chains song "God Smack". But they both agreed the bands name wasn't about drugs, Satan, or anything else.
@Silthey have other songs that talk about drug addiction and sully solo album talks about opiod addiction i find it suspect that hed come up with elaborate backstory behind this one...
Exactly!💕🙏🇺🇸
It’s all about Drugs and Satan… musicians are very exoteric.
that's really cool to know. I've ALWAYS thought it was about addiction. guess I need to watch that flick
@@barelzass8847well the movie is kinda about a voodoo drug that zombifies the victims
“Sully decided to write this song after watching the movie The Serpent and the Rainbow, a film involving Voodoo and Witchcraft.”
Sully is a practicing Wiccan and Lori Cabot is the Priestess in the video as she is out of the video.
He has said that Wicca saved him. The people in the forest running is the celebration of Beltain, the Mayday, bonefire fertility celevration where men will chase women through the forests. I did see Papa Legba in the video to add to the voodo aspect.
He said that Wicca saved him from drugs.
Also, Godsmack was a cover band of Alice of Chains.
I think this song is about being on heroin. And coming off drugs only to get high again just to kill the cravings.
@@brownwestmoreland1077 i had heard that and thought the same thing for years! I watched a video, Godsmack live in Las Vegas Nevada at the house of blues. He said in that, that the only two songs he has done that isn't written about his personal life and experiences is Voodoo. It's something he wrote after watching The Serpent and the Rainbow. The other is Serenity. He wrote it after reading Neil Perts book.
Great movie
Sully practices voodoo.
Godsmack... i stand alone- straight out of line- awake
Don't forget running blind!
Those are my favorite godsmack songs!$
Greed, I’m alive...
From Godsmack
- Keep away
- whatever
- straight out of line
- bad religion
Turbo loves playing them. On XM radio.
"Greed" is another great one from Godsmack. Definitely worth a listen
realign is my fav
"Cryin like a bitch" is a great get-you-ready-to-run-thru-a-wall song.
Awake!
Godsmack were/still so underrated..... one of my favorites.
Except theyre the number one mainstream band this year on Sirius XM
Been my favorite. Another blast fav was queensryche
Serenity is another great song by Godsmack that's "Chill"
Godsmack drum battle, Sully vs Shannon.
🔥
Yes!!!!!!
F*ck yes!
Yes!!!!
I love this song and the hypnotic drumming!
the drums and bass move the song.
This is one of my favorites by them
you chose the right word.....hypnotic is definitely accurate.
I heard some people's interpretation but Sully is a Wiccan and I know for a fact that lady is his head priestess. This was part of the Wiccan ceremony
That's Laurie Cabot of Salem, Massachusetts. Author, witch and priestess. That's a true honor for her to appear in his video.
I’m so happy to see y’all reacting to Godsmack!! They’re one of my favorite metal bands!! Sully Erna (lead singer) and Robbie Merril (bassist) were inspired to write this song after watching a film called The Serpent And The Rainbow, which was directed by Wes Craven. A lot of people do think it’s also about drugs/addiction. (Feel the snakebite enter my veins). Also, on a side note, the song was used in the MTV show Fear. Here are some others I also think you’ll enjoy! I Stand Alone, Awake, Whatever, Keep Away, Speak, Cryin’ Like a Bitch, 1000HP, Bulletproof, Under Your Scars, Unforgettable. Also, the “drum battle” video between Sully & Shannon Larkin is EPIC!!!! I can’t wait to see you react to more!! 😁
Sully practices the Wicca faith, and he incorporated his beliefs, along with an actual Wicca ceremony, into this video.
Wicca is not a faith. It's a Spiritual path of our Ancestors. Blessed Be
I have no Faith in that but I respect it . Every faith and or Religion should have respect towards it . But yes , this song is about that !
@@altentreece4715 Again , I have no Faith in that but I have respect for it . We should all have respect for other peoples Faith and or Beliefs ! The world would be a better place if we did ! As long as those Faith's and Belief's called for no direct harm toward other people ! I'm not talking about how some pervert it to suit there wants and needs , but the faith or religion itself .
Nah Wicca is the faith that knelt. Sorry, I know that sounds aggressive, it's not meant to be. But let's face it, admit to yourself. Your whitewashed white magic given a set of laws, and you don't have a name for the male of female entity you worship. When the christians took over, you knelt, promised to remain anonymous, and promised to remain "white." And I know you won't take offense or act on this, bc your bound by the rule of three and a karmatic return. This is just truth.
Claim your names back, call to him or her. By name. Life is grey, it isn't white.
Always loved Godsmack, back in the day I went to see them live, I remember a group of protesters were outside the venue because the lead singer was a self-proclaimed Wiccan. I live in the Panhandle of Florida right at the end of “the Bible Belt”, I have to laugh now because that seems tame compared to what is happening current day! They rocked live in concert!!!
I heard he was wiican. As an gnostic atheist, meh. What ever floats your goat.
Yeah he's said he was in interviews from back then but claims he never said he was Wiccan but agnostic so a lot of Wiccans and pagans lost a lot of respect for him after he just pretends he never said he was to save face from taking hate from media, religious groups and stay out of the news he actually mocks the religion now in interviews but occasionally praises it in personal videos kinda hypocritical but meh who really knows outside sully
Under Your Scars by Godsmack is a good one!
Please!
The new sound is way killer
Yesssssss
Yes yes yes!
It absolutely boggles me that record labels block react videos. The videos are 99% positive AND they reintroduce the world to older music that fans (new and old) become interested in and purchase. Love you kids. Keep up the good work.
They’re named after a Alice In Chains song! And they’re considered to be post-grunge
Yeah I don’t think so bud. 😂😂😂
Which part do you doubt? Despite whatever explanation Sully gives, this band was 2000% named after an AIC song,
@@atticus9907 I guess you would know better
Or how about the fact his voice is a heavy imitation of Layne Staley. This melody sounds a little to much like Mad Seasons "Long Gone Day "
Godsmack is one of my all time favorites. Wore out their first CD and had to buy another! Lol... Great song - Cryin like a b*tch, I stand alone, Awake, Bad Magick, Unforgettable, When Legends Rise, Bulletproof
Lex will freak on "Cryin like a Bitch!" Lots of testosterone in the video lol.
Salazar Erna, lead singer of Godsmack. One-man-band. I respect this band. They songs - masterpieces.
"Salvatore"
Salvatore "Sully" Erna.
It's Italian. His grandfather was a composer in Sicily...
You're so on point on the grungy part, they got their name from Alice in Chain's song "Godsmack"
They used to be an AIC cover band
No that’s not at all how they got the Name Robbie had a cold sore and sully laughed at him the next DAY SULLY HAD ONE SO TONY SAID GODSMACK YOU ENDBIF STORY
They are really good in concert 🤘
I agree. Seen them a few times myself.
Seen them once live, very entertaining!
Keep Away, I Stand Alone, Greed, Straight Out of Line, Awake, Running Blind ALL great intros to the band
I have gotten more speeding tickets listening to this song. This brings back memories of down shifting then gunning the racing pedal on my fsport. Love it.
New subscriber.
'Moon baby' is my favorite one by them! Please.
Absolutely. Why it wanst played all over like voodoo was...idk. Moon Baby was a way better jam.
Same! Know it by heart!
You HAVE to do the drum battle with Sully and their drummer!
Godsmack is amazing. This is a mellow song from them. The song “I Stand Alone” is in the workout playlist
I visited Waverly Hills Sanatorium last week with some family and had this on repeat the whole way from the hotel until we got to this hospital
Thats a cool place.
The “Unforgettable “ video is really cool. It’s introducing a bunch of music students to the music business in a very positive way.
Godsmack has a boatload of great songs, my new favorite is “ Every Part of Me”, but I could go on for quite awhile with great songs you should react to. 🤘❤️✌️
Great reaction, I have a feeling Lex is really gonna like Godsmack. This was probably their most popular song on the radio but kind of a different sound from the rest of their stuff.
Godsmack reminds me of a band everyone has forgotten about, try "Powerman 5000 - When Worlds Collide" and you can't listen to PM5K w/o listening to their lead singer's big bro - Rob Zombie.
When Worlds Collide was great but they did not have many hits
I love telling people that the lead singer is the brother of rob zombie! Lol
OMG yes!! Powerman 5000 is Amazing
agreed to Powerman 5000 "When Worlds Collide"!!
They are related, maybe that's why?
The wolf represents a spirit animal. A guide in life and protector.
This song is about drug addiction. Godsmack is badass. They have a live version of this song thats really good. They have 6 or 8 great songs. Also look up Godsmack Drum Battle. Thats fantastic.
It’s not about drug addiction! He made it clear it was about witchcraft after a movie he saw about witchcraft! The lyrics re literally straight forward! But drug users see drug relationships everywhere! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Great Reaction!! Keep Diving Deeper into "Godsmack" you won't be disappointed 😁
Hello, thank you for the video. I would like to see your reaction to the performances of Diana Ankudinova. This is a young singer, she has covers of famous songs, as well as her own songs.
I'm from Boston, they're from Boston, been a fan since day one, but I have a whole new respect for Godsmack after seeing them live, WOW!
... that made it sound like I only just saw them; I've seen then a few times, lol. 🤘
I grew up on Godsmack. It’s my dads favorite. They have a lot of styles and I love his voice! My favorite slower song by them is “Serenity”.But one of their classic well known songs is “I stand alone”. I think you guys would like both. More, please! Love both of you guys’ appreciation for music. Keep it up!
oh hell yeah. Been watching yall for so long but this song personally is one of my favorites. Already have a part of my side saved for this song
Seen Godsmack live a few times sooo good.
nobody does live shows like metal bands, i never seen SmackofGod but maybe one dayeeeyay
Godsmack-“Something Different!”🤘
"Serenity", "Awake", "Moon baby", "Vampires", "Unforgettable", "Keep Away"
Add Immune to that list!🤘🏻🤘🏻
Ooohhh I forgot about Moon Baby 😮😮
As a mature Christian, I know I'm not supposed to listen to this, but I LOVE this song and the video. Awesomeness from my 20's...
God would want you to enjoy.
There’s nothing anti-Christian about the band or song. So you can feel free to listen without thinking you’re offending God. As long as you don’t use the song as a catalyst for sin, or thinking about sin, that is.
The song is a reference to the movie “The Serpent and the Rainbow” and so is really just a thematic homage to the Voodoo rituals.
Imagine living in fear of pissing off a god
So catchy and always gets stuck in my head. Glad y’all enjoyed it. As usual y’all are on point
Godsmack - Batalla de Los tambores will blow your minds! They only do it live.
Drummer as a lead singer is always great. Also, snake bite, candles, etc etc I figured out the meaning when I was in middle school lol
"Re-align" and "I Stand Alone" are good ones as well
Serenity, Whiskey Hangover, When Legends Rise, Under Your Scars, Crying Like A Bitch, they're all good songs.
Definitely has some Alice in Chains vibes in it. So I could see how you say it sounds kinda grungy.
Godsmack was huge fans of Alice in Chains and named themselves after a Alice in Chains song called Godsmack
Sure didn’t 😂😂😂
Absolutely correct. You may want to do some homework before you tell someone they're wrong. This definitely is from Alice in chains song godsmack.
Godsmack is awesome!
Sully the lead singer is a Wiccan. And this video is supposedly a ceremony from his actual Witch coven
Godsmack by ALICEN IN CHAINS! Btw Sully is an amazing singer he has a sick voice! Saw these guys at Dysfunctional Family Picnic it was a festival 92.3 K-Rock here in NYC used to put on in the 90’s early 2000’s they had first come out along with Linkin Park and a bunch of other bands at the time… they were sick! Their first album is amazing you should definitely check out more Godsmack! I think Sully was a practicing “Wicken” at the time a fork of Paganism
"Bad Religion" is another decent song from them, but personally my favorites would be "I Stand Alone" and "Awake." "When Legends Rise" is another good one.
From Sully Erna himself , " This song is about the movie The Serpent and the Rainbow" Some will say it is about heroin addiction because of the line "snakebiet enter my veins" But Sully himself shot that down at a smaller gig Godsmack did with only a 500 person attendance. Someone from the crowd yelled out and asked if it was about addiction and sully cmae back with No No No... then the part about the movie.
I love seeing these kids explore the music that I listened to during middle school, high school, and the following 20 years of my life. It's been around for so long, and they've just been missing out. The girl already has it stuck in her head.
You appeared in my husband & my shared feed yesterday & we've subbed from 2 of our channels. We're like your pale twins...haha! I swear Lex & I would be best friends...hana! I'm a horror artist & our entire house is "Halloweeny".
Thank you for your videos! We work live shows & you've inspired us to react to live production set ups as well as the music. We plan on making kind of behind the scenes reactions as soon as possible. You guys are great!
PS We worked a Metallica show that Godsmack opened for. We watched while sitting on top of road cases & we could feel the vibrations of the music from the cases through our whole bodies. It was awesome!
Ooh, y'all need to see Sully and Shannon's drum battle.
I knew you guys would enjoy Godsmack. Glad you reacted to them, and you could keep going with several songs of theirs like, Whatever, I Stand Alone, Awake, Cryin Like A Bitch, 1000hp, Keep Away, Speak, Bulletproof, and many more I can't remember off the top of my head.
First experience with Godsmack was a barn party in Salem NH, I think in 1995. Been a fan ever since, Lex will love the harder songs.
I absolutely LOVE Godsmack!!! They are definitely my fav band!! I have seen them live 4 times & look forward to every show!! If you can see them live, I highly recommend it!! I know people have different opinions about what this song is about, but my take on it is, its a song about addiction & having relapsed & hating that you did. "I'm not the one who's so far away when I feel the snake bite enter my vein. Never did I wanna be here again & I don't remember why I came." Sully, the lead singer, battled with addiction with heroin. It makes perfect sense
Their 4th album simply entitled “IV” has a style I wish they would return to. A Hard Rock style with a flair of Blues Rock
Own it.
Godsmack is truly one of my favorite bands. I think they're one of the best to come out of the Nu-Metal movement.
The movie Serpent and the Rainbow was the inspiration for this song. One of my many favorite Godsmack songs. 🤟😎🤘
Something fun to watch for Godsmack is their drum battle. So cool! The lead singer is also a bad-ass drummer, and I guess in concert he and the drummer have a drum battle. Check out the video. It’s just amazing how in sync they are and how good they both are.
“The space of otherness” love that phrase! And yes this song is about that. The song is inspired by the movie Serpent and the Rainbow. It’s about voodoo. 😬😎 new sub you guys are adorable. 👍❤️🤓
Fun fact, before they got famous the singer Sully was in my collage English class, years later I saw him on MTV and lost my shit 😂
Sully decided to write this song after watching the movie The Serpent and the Rainbow, a film involving Voodoo and Witchcraft. Many believe it is about drugs, specifically a heroin addiction ("The snakebite enter my veins").
Fun Fact: Sully the lead singer is a practitioner of witchcraft. The video features Laurie Cabot who is a High Priestess of Wicca and several Salem witches. He said that witchcraft saved him from drugs. The song is about voodoo and witchcraft.
Started a new job this week lol so late seeing yalls reactions..but Godsmack was my first concert ever in 98 and turned me from my heavy hip hop influence to modern rock/metal
Love this song. Godsmack is really good live, Sully, the singer, plays drums too. They would roll out a second drum kit and he and he would perform amazing solos. Apparently there's a hidden track after this song called Witchcraft...?
Saw them live 1999 when they warmed up Black Sabbath reunion tour. Never forgot this song after that.
Lol if you’re looking for a smack react to godsmack straight out of line or greed
Idk about everyone else, but this is my go to seduction song. The blend of the music and the vocals, are dark & seductive in a uninhibited way. Dark room, colored lights, hips moving.... makes ya feel alive 🤗🤗
hells yeah, medusa doin her sexy dance is totally not seductive AT ALL
*Godsmack (Awake)*
*(I Stand Alone)*
*(Keep Away)*
It's on the soundtrack for Queen Of The Dammed... If you ever read this and haven't already been told a thousand times already lol.. Great reaction.. It was fun watching you guys figure it out..💯
I thought y’all was high watching these videos! I mean Lex just automatically gets it. And when she doesn’t brad is right there with the google. Love it
first time I heard this song was at 3am when my uncle drove me down the driveway in winter to wait for the bus car had no heater so ever time I hear this song I get cold chills
My dad used to be the back up drummer for Kix in the 80s. Shannon Larkin (drummer for Godsmack) played quite a few shows with Shannon when he was with Wrathchild America. My dad was set to join Wrathchild before he was incarcerated for crack possession in 1987, which caused him to miss the show where Shannon was scouted for another band which eventually lead to him joining Godsmack in 2002. I like to think if he didn't go to jail, my dad probably would have become the drummer for Godsmack.
I mean, it's highly unlikely, but it's fun to dream lol
My dad played quite a few shows with Shannon*
Words are hard
This song is basically about Louisiana and they have voodoo shops down there and I been a godsmack fan 2001-present
The name GODSMACK, is actually an ALICE IN CHAINS song from the DIRT album, that's where they got it from
The song is about the movie 'The Serpent and the Rainbow' which is about voodoo practitioners raising zombies. Good movie, by the way. Recommend you seeing it then listening to this again.
Brad you have got to see the Voodoo one and two live of this!! This is only half…
Serenity, Keep Away and Whayever are my favorite Godsmack songs
Keep Away official video is a must see... Prepare to rock out
This song is about Heroin addiction. Very poetic and ominously written.
I named my doberman pinscher Voodoo after this song. I picked her up from the breeders and I am driving , talking to my puppy asking what am I going to name you ? I reached over to turn on music and this song was first thing I heard. So my puppy became Voodoo
Great tune by a great group. Funny story when they came out my grandfather, RIP, had watched Letterman and they were on there. My grandpa came into work the next day and asked me if I had heard on this new band called Jesus Punch! 😂😂😂
I Stand Alone
Awake
Greed
Serenity
These guys have so many great songs! Please do more! Thanks for the reaction!
First time I heard this was on MTV FEAR. It was the theme song. The episodes kick around online...you may enjoy the episodes.
The song is about heroin "snake bite in my veins" a needle is associated with a snake bite
The Witches Coven seen in the video is a REAL Coven led by Laurie Cabot the Official Witch of Salem. I've met her she's very sweet. Blessed Be
The lead singer watched The Serpent and the Rainbow and was inspired the vid shows different beliefs like the visual of our dead ancestors rising out of the water ( water is seen as a doorway to the land of the dead ) and yes Mushrooms, snake venom and other medicines could help in rituals and see visions, the Lady with the Sword is a Scottish Wiccan and yes she is Drawing down the moon in Ritual.
I think you guys got it! It is about drug addiction! Keep up your work! You need to check out "hells wrath " by pantera. That song is about a former addict telling another addict about the horrors of drugs
The Godsmack drum dual between Sully and Shannon is a must watch.
Grungy vibes.lexs descriptions never get old
The album that this song was released on is really good, the entire thing. Any song off of that album would be good to follow up with.
YEA wooot love it one of my fav bands!!!!!
keep it lit guys!!!
Please do more Godsmack!
-Awake
-Whiskey Hangover
-I Stand Alone
-Speak
They were AMAZING LIVE. BOSTON RIVER RAVE. AND THE OZFEST.
It’s about a movie “The serpent and the rainbow”
If a band wanted to sound like Alice in Chains but of course couldn't, but then slowly developed into their own band, but still try and sound like Alice. They are pretty good. They got their name from an Alice in Chains song. Smack is heroin, and it seems to be the theme in this song too. Snake bite, needle injection. Voodoo is also pins in the doll, staying with that theme.
Godsmack - Whatever
First Hit.. Their introduction!
Godsmack has sooo many good songs.....Keep Away, Moon Baby, Bad religion, Under your scars, Serenity, Whatever, Time Bomb just to name a few of their songs....They are AMAZING live, seen them 12 times since my first time at Woodstock 99.....been listening to Godsmack since WAAF in Boston (RIP WAAF) decided to give them a chance and played their songs "whatever" and "Keep Away". Shortly after WAAF started playing those 2 songs on air in 97 or 98, Godsmack was signed and their debut album came out. they also have a foundation called "The Scars Foundation" which raises money for suicide and mental health....Sully started this foundation after many of his friends in music industry committed suicide
