I'm also curious how many age groupers would be tested positive. There are so many "alpha males" in the ironman races who make times which are near to pro times everything while running a company or being a manager full time and "just" training 14 to 16 hours a week. I could imagine that there is even more people doping in the age groups than in the pro field. There is no doping controls there unfortunately.

Shall I remind everyone reading this of Sydney 2000 where maybe 30% of the field were doping including 4 of the medalists on the mens and womens, not much change in Athens with Kate Allen or Vanessa Fernandes in 2008, or who can forget the biggest cheat of them all, Nicola Spirig.. unless the media shills and the yapping dogs (including the pros) refuse to call this out then this sport will continue to live in denial, the fact Chartier got caught is purely accidental and to believe they're aren't others is like believing in unicorns.

Triathlon is a very expensive sport. Development of a young athlete to get them to the point where they could go pro and earn some of that exorbitant cost. Triathlon is an affluent sport. I know everyone says it is about doing your best and winning is not everything. But when you are a pro you don't train to loose and your sponsors don't pay you to just do your best. Are companies in business to loose? Are militaries developing to loose? Everyone is so surprised of cocos behavior!? To me it is natural to do everything to win. Like you said Sebastian, participation doesn't pay the bills.

Respecting faster peoples dedication and commitment is delusional if you are basically training the same as many try to do. It is in the genetic gifts some are given and some are not. There is nothing more magical a top performer does, compared to a 5-10th percentile performer. I call it lucky blood nowadays; the best have lucky blood, mine is decent but not as lucky. Respect should be given to all that put in the efforts, and maybe. more respect to those that don't have lucky blood, because the glory doesn't come to them with the same training efforts.

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
I feel like its mostly the people, who don't do sports, who just say everyone dopes. Its because they do not understand, that even the cheaters have to train very hard and disciplined, and then they give themselves an unfair advantage in order to achieve some stolen valor. Many people think something like Lance Armstrong could have just sat in his mum's basement playing computer games, then dope some and win the Tour the France.
Also it is, that in their mind it feels good to explain, that it is normal and good to be physically inactive, painting a picture in the brain of 2 camps. Normal people and those crazy workout people on steroids.
Everyone who ever trained hard and disciplined should know, that there is a lot more flowing into the equation, like passion, mindset, talent and much more.
But anyway, where is the sport going?
There should probably be tighter controls and canceling a race should probably lead to an automatic doping control in order to help out the image of the sport. E.g., now Sam Lieto and Laura Philipp raise eyebrows canceling a race after Chartier was caught. Why not just disprove the accusations? It would not hurt, I assume.
Or would a split into 2 classes of races possible? One with clean athletes and another one with athletes under legalized doping use. This would be comparable to sprayed vs. organic vegetables. The fans would split up too. On the one side you would have those, who are just impressed by bigger, faster, stronger. On the other side, you would have those impressed by passion, spirit and inspiration.
Maybe not doable, that idea just popped into my mind.
    Cheers all!

it will be like cycling , Triathlon will make a big 'show' of being clean , but the athletes will stay ahead of the testing and the doping will continue. The thing I am curious about is how doping effects different people in different ways , I bet some athletes get a much bigger performance boost than others , so a guy like Charter can go from a mid pack guy to the top , whereas someone essentially " better" than him could take the same drugs but not get the same end result. Look at a Flora Duffy , a very suspicious trajectory from good but not great mid pack athlete to total world domination. If we accept others in her field are also doping , why are her results so spectacular? I feel for Sebastian , he seems visibly deflated and sad , but he is either super naive or just trying to save his sport that he knows is corrupt from a total collapse....

I tried to explain to the cycling world there was a chance we can save cycling.
The equalizer to the steroids was the advanced training I created 20 something years ago
I tried to explain this to every organization but I was blocked and ignored.
Structured training in cycling was the equalizer to the steroids.
But once steroids is involved, we're back at ground zero again.
It's over now. We are way past the point of saving cycling.
This had to happen around 8 years ago.
The cycling industry needs to keep its athletes dirty in order to keep control of them. That's the only agenda that is clear.
The minute any one of them steps out of wine they are found dirty.
The reason why Lance was exposed was because he was not listening. They told him to back off and not monopolize the sport. He did not listen.
He chose his legacy over the cycling industry and that's why they made a example out of him. Not because he doped more than others. That's just ridiculous.

Common man, just keep your mouth shut if u urself don't wanna get busted, u don't win a professional triathlon clean. Good analogy to what lance did, am a great fan of lance, not coz he doped, but coz of his charisma, u know everyone at the top dopes, no need to throw shade on ur mates.

Every professional endurance athlete has to perform on some specific very limited timeslots in each year. And has to be better than his professional counterparts. There is limited testing.....
So : " the winner takes it all".
    BTW:
    - where does doping start?
    - are fruit shakes with some added "Powder" just nutrituion or are they performance enhancing?
I hated Armstrong. But he did what all the other guys did. Ok: he even got over the limit there. But if he would been euopean, he would be still "untested".
    Now: RedBull sponsorship....
Normally you literally have to kill yourself ( or simply be the best everytime) to be sponsored by that "performance enhancing drink" manufacturer. Hmmmm...
No pressure to perform well on "the big event"? Really?
Well: the competition just found a better way to "prepare" themselves.
Or they changed their " nutrition".
Every sucsessful top athlete in endurance is "enhanced". Just because their "enhancement" isn't on any banned list does not make them better.
Take your money, and stop crying about it.

😂😂 don’t be silly… especially the jock with the protein powder. I kind of understand your point but bringing it down to this is just too easy.

It’s naive to believe that doping has not been going on in our sport for years.
You’ve probably raced people who have doped many times 🤷‍♂️

Stealing this idea from a writer writing about war: Doping will be w us in sport till collectively we think it is disgusting
Only riders have the power to spread that word: it is disgusting. I am disgusted.
    Same w soldiers
