  • Cadillac’s Chief Engineer, David Leone, takes us on a deep technical review of the 420 HP Twin Turbo Cadillac CTS V Sport - everything from getting more from the 3.6 V6 to the use of specific lightweight materials in construction. This is more than just a tech overview of a car, but the logic of how to build a driver’s car as David explains not just what they did but why they did it . . .

      The quality lacks.

      They used to be quality but that has dropped significantly.

    Bought the last 2015 CTS Vsport off my dealer's lot at the end of 2015 (it was a demo car). I've owned 5 Cadillacs including the 2003 CTS with the FE3 suspension and summer tires. This new car is a serious hoot to drive. On day 3 of ownership I was out on the Interstate a bit late to a meeting and pushed the accelerator so I'd go a little faster to make up some time. I looked down and I was doing 100 MPH...and the car felt like it was doing 75. The stability of the platform is for real, and the engine power puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.
    I just discovered the Moto-Man video series a month ago so I'm catching up with the older footage. Keep up the good work, George. Your style reminds me of what Ferris Bueller would be like in middle age (remember the scene of him describing the Ferrari).

    I love these types of videos, showing some of the technical and engineering aspects of new cars. Interesting how Cadillac shed all those pounds on the new CTS.
    Although the CTS's .29 drag coefficient is nothing to brag about! My 17 year-old Mercedes E-Class has the exact same .29 coefficient. One would think with computer-aided design, overall improvements in automotive architecture and wind tunnel efficiencies, they could have moved the "coefficient of drag" needle up a bit more?

I was thinking about the BMW 750 or Audi A8 as my next lease but after driving the Cadillac that won't happen if you drive it you will buy it its that good the people who put this car together should be giving a heck of a raise I can't believe it's a Cadillac. and as far as the Q system is concerned I love it. Love the Video M, got to learn a lot about the CTS ... I have to agree, GM got this car right!
    You know, those sealing Panels underneath the car can double as a Protection Plate for the Powertrain & vital components from derbies & what not ... my Father's old Mercedes S300 (W126 & W140) had them & it worked wonders for us ... my Kia doesn't have it ... a piece of metal cut one of the Coolant hoes & mad a mess .... same with the Tesla S, but I digress. Got to set in a new CTS earlier tonight after setting in a new E class.... I love the interior, its indeed a world class interior & can match Zee Germans. On a side note, saw the new Escalade tonight .... WOW !

    • @rexhouseo7010
      @rexhouseo7010 8 лет назад +3

      +James Garafalo For around $900 you get about 500hp with a plug and play module from Trifecta tuning that also gives it better transmission logic for performance driving. With this configuration and a little better tires the quarter mile will be mid to low 12's on a good day. Road and Track recorded a 12.7 quarter mile stock with a cool engine, but it's generally a low 13's car. This is a quote from another article comparing the two; "In terms of suspension and overall sporty driving feel, the Vsport is better than the CTS-V. It’s the one you want to take on a mountain pass." - Danny Cruz, Rallyways
      The Alpha platform is quite a big improvement over the outgoing CTS-V. It changes direction better, stops faster, and generates significantly more grip (even with less performance-oriented tires). The Vsport starts at ~60,000 and the outgoing CTS - V was ~$65,000 so they are a little too close considering you're getting a true V with a Corvette engine that's designed for hard use. Cadillac has recently raised their prices in an attempt to increase the prestige of the brand as well. That's part of the reason the new CTS is $6,000 more and the new CTS-V is $18,000 more.

    A big issue I have with Cadillac ATS AND CTS is their seats. The seats are by far the cheapest feeling unsupported seat when you compare them to a BENZ OR BMW . They really need more firmness and less girlie soft padding. That alone kept me in the Mercedes family .Price is pretty high as well .A CTS4 starting at $60k is $9k more then a E350W4 of the same year.

    • @EGclassic
      @EGclassic 2 года назад

      It has been resolved, on plenty of forums. They fixed mine, there is a bar under the car, if bent it which it is for you. It will make that rattle sound because it is touching the exhaust

    • @rickdangerous5606
      @rickdangerous5606 2 года назад

      @@EGclassic I expect this is a different issue. The issue I am referring to is identifiable on cold starts... lasts about 5 seconds. When the car is warmed up after running, and you start it again, the rattle is not there. A bent bar first of all can not be a consistent problem UNLESS you are suggesting all bars are bent from factory. Even if it was it wouldn't go away the sound after 5 seconds... THere are no forums I've seen talking about "bent bars" that are the cause of this rattle.

    • @rickdangerous5606
      @rickdangerous5606 2 года назад

      @@EGclassic I hear what you are saying but I've worked in the auto industry for nearly 15 years. If you buy these cars new in Canada yes back in 2014 one like mine would have been over $80,000 after taxes and a new caddy warranty would have made sense at that time because cost per year/KM on extended warranties is ALWAYS much more affordable on BRAND NEW classed purchases.
      But I bought the car summer of 2020 with only about 64,000 KM on it and it was out of warranty. I paid ONLY $26,500 plus 13% HST Canadian for it. I can buy warranties AT COST from the provider and even a reputable 3rd party warranty for another 4 years/40,000 KM of coverage AT MY DEALER COST was just over $5000 plus 13% HST and that was with a $100 deductible so I can just IMAGINE what a genuine GM extended warranty would have cost on this car... probably closer to $8000 or more is my guess! That's far too much money to spend on a car that had no visible signs of failure and needed only 4 brand new tires to pass the Ontario Safety certification.
      Besides that there is nothing wrong with a operation of the Turbos so an aftermarket warranty would have easily denied an $8000 claim.
      Either way something is loose in there for sure and it happens to a lot of these older cars throwing $8000 at it to maybe solve the problem is not what car ownership is about for me. Car ownership for me is about finding affordable workarounds to production oversights so I will have to do some testing sometime to see if it is fact the wastegate arm rattling as is what I suspect at this time.

      @@rickdangerous5606 I hear you bro. Mine is about 65K fully loaded. I installed the digital dash myself after my buddy reprogrammed it for me. These engines are bad ass, super fast stock and even more thrilling tuned. And I hear ya, the turbo wastegates cause the Rattle you are talking about. It just needs to be replaced which lucky for me there were some good mechanics at Covert Cadillac. Cause a lot of mechanics would not know how to operate on your LF3 Engine cause it’s a rare bird.

    Nice car. I would love to own one but I am just to afraid of reliability. I Just don't know if I can trust GM to build a reliable car..

    Awesome car! However, Cadillac needs to stop having wishi washi comercials.
    Mercedez has agressive comercials flauting why the cars are so great while Cadillac has people going to black tie dinners

    The RWD platforms are *NOT* American. They are Australian design.

      Definitely wrong. Alpha chassis is all American and the best chassis in the world in its class, Drive the Germans and you will see what I mean.

    Well I’ll respect the input on how good the 3rd generation might be. However, as a loyal Cadillac customer for 35 years . The last 2 vehicles were a CTS. And ATS . Both performance models and both NYS CERTIFIED refunded lemons . So unfortunately I did go foreign. No choice after 20+ breakdown. It’s going to take a lot more than you tube videos to get me back in. Hey, i was loyal. My heart is with Cadillac. But currently not sitting in one.

    Nice, except for the fact that the crappy touchscreens don't work. All that technology,, and a $1.99 touchscreen that costs $1300 to replace. I love the power and handling of my V-Sport but I won't be buying another Cadillac. It simply isn't ready for prime time.

    So as usual GM is a few steps behind Ford in "newer to the U.S." technology!

    The so called "relaunch" has made the brand famous, not profitable!! Cadillac has an impressive portfolio with plenty of high tech, but that's not making a sound business case for the brand. Cadillac has finally caught up with the competition, but that's not helping the bottom line. Buyers in this class that drive BMW and Lexus look at a Cadillac and say "that's nice" and go about their way. The CTS and ATS are impressive, but the rest of the brand is "warmed over" Chevrolet bits. The SRX is an eight year old Opel chassis that was originally used for the Saturn Vue. I commend GM for attacking the luxury market, but you have to make money at the same time and people have to actually buy your car.
