    My car was misfiring. The dealer quoted me $3k to change the plugs and coils. I found your video, and the step-by-step instructions were Amazing! It took me about two hours from start to finish. First time working on the car on my own. Thank you so much! I really appreciate your content.

    Thanks, changed mine second time at 82k. Haven’t swapped coils yet and seems fine. Took about 90 minutes. They were pretty fouled with only about 35k miles. Seems changing around 25k could be beneficial as this engine runs them hard.

    Excellent video, clearly describes what to look for and the process. If I was close to where you instruct, I'd look for you to do my next BFR. A couple of small points of preference on my side: I always take out/replace the plugs one at a time to minimize time with the hole into the cylinder open and minimize the exposure for something to drop in. Also, there are wire feeler gages as opposed to the "coin" version. The wire types are less sensitive to misalignment when sticking the flat gapper or feeler gages into the plug.

    Very nice and informative video. Sounds like this maybe the fix to my issue. At freeway speeds when I accelerate to pass another car I hear a backfire/pop sound. Sometimes 2,3,or 4 in a row. The issue happens occasionally and of course the dealer can't duplicate it.

    Excellent video sir. I’m a old school gear head from the mid 1970’s. My first car was a 1972 GTO big block 400. I learned a lot about mechanics from that car because I broke it many times from drag racing. You are right about most cars nowadays are pretty much the same but each one is still a little different. So whenever I plan to work on a car and I don’t know where to start. I always do a search to see how to do the procedure so I don’t have to figure it out. I appreciate people like you who take the time to make videos to help others. I probably need to replace at least the plugs. I’m getting a slight back fire at full throttle. I also have the Trifecta tune to install. So I guess I will wait to change the plugs and maybe the coils. I’m not privy in how much miles you have on your Cadi but what made you change the coils? Was it just for good measure.

The lines that needed to be moved around seemed more stubborn than you made it look. Either I suck or you have magic powers. I'm guessing option 1.

    BTW, if you are boosting 18 psi (give or take) it is better to err on the side of too narrow a gap than too wide. I went with .025 on the 2016 LF3/LF4 plugs (AC Delco 4# 41-147 -- a.k.a. GM 12662396) and it runs just fine. You are not going to be able to tell the marginal degradation in combustion efficiency (if any). It will be able to tell if the gap is too wide and you end up with misses under boost. The 2014-2015 plugs are garbage (one heat range too hot) and superseeded. If you find them; don't but them. GM dealers only sell the 12662396 in a pack of 4; but many resellers will break it up and sell them piece meal.

  • @dwightlooi

    Make sure you have GOOD TOOLs! I got stuck when the wrench extension comes off too easily from the spark socket. I can't fish the socket out of the spark plug tube because the extension keeps coming off the socket when I pull it up. And since I don;t have the engien back together, I cannot drive to go get another extension with a tighter ball detent. LOL!

    • @JetFuelOnly
      @JetFuelOnly  5 лет назад +2

      Dwight Looi get something long with a wad of duct tape to pull up your socket. Then tape your socket to your extension. I should have mentioned that as an idea!

    • @dwightlooi
      @dwightlooi 5 лет назад

      @@JetFuelOnly What do you think about running LF4 plugs (12662396) on the LF3 instead of the LF3 plugs (12642791)? There is also the NGK Laser Iridium 94489 ILTR6M9G (heat range 6) which is one heat range cooler, but that is a 5 ohm plug, but I suppose it doesn't matter if you buy the Denso coil packs.
      --
      What I have is a situation where the drive train will "buck" -- more like a clunk-clunk -- at high load between 2000 and 2700 rpm. An easy way to produce the problem is to put it on manual "M" mode, and accelerate through that ban in 8th gear. Boost will reach about 7~9 psi in that rpm band with the throttle wide open. I doubt it is a tranny issue since there would have been no shifting commanded and none was observed. The problem will also go away for a while and come back. You sometimes feel it as power instability at high rpm between 5000 and 6000 at full boost too. No CEL though.
      --
      The car is a 2014 w/60K miles. Boost is 10.5~12.5 psi on "Tour" or "Snow"; 16.5~18.5 psi on "Sport" or "Track" [Trifecta]. Everything on the car is stock except the tires; I hate the run flat PZero Neros so I take the risk and run Pilot Supersports without a spare.

    • @JetFuelOnly
      @JetFuelOnly  5 лет назад +1

      Sounds like the situation that caused misfires for me too, but maybe your description of the feel makes me unsure. If you have Trifecta, use their software to log the car doing it. (I haven’t used it yet do not sure the details.). Then send it over to Trifecta and have them look (unless you can review it with their software). You will be looking for logged misfires. If there are any, start by changing the plugs. Then if the problem isn’t solved, go for coils. I say there’s not enough gain to use a different plug in the car. The AC Delcos will be fine and the 147’s I believe are one step colder than the original 2014 plug. I went through NGK (Iridium) and they didn’t play well but it may have just been bad coils. So now this setup hasn’t hiccuped once and I’m happy.

      @@JetFuelOnly Aren't the Delco's 4 ohm plugs?

    • @JetFuelOnly
      @JetFuelOnly  5 лет назад

      Dwight Looi yes they are. I could have tried other options but honestly I wanted a one shot to make thing better and all “stock” parts for ignition has been good. But maybe try the LF4 plugs and report back! I tried the NGK LTR71x-11 based on an ATS-V tuner recommendation. They didn’t work out but again my coils were the culprit and I decided not to take my chances with the NGK’s again.
