Ariel, I laughed so hard when I saw this video. I'm a recent subscriber so I'm watching older videos. I laughed because there is an area near my house where I look for rocks. It's also an area where people walk, jog, bike. When I'm out walking, everyone that passes by will say hello or nod hello. If I'm looking for rocks, it's like I have the plague. They don't make eye contact, they don't speak. 😂. It *IS* embarrassing sometimes to engage in this hobby! 🤣. Thank you for the videos. You've been a lot of help to me so far!

Love this video. I do the same thing. As others have said, embrace the weirdness. I had a state trooper come check on me once like “uuuh you ok bud?” I was like “yes I am, thanks. Here, have a crinoid fossil!”

Hahaha that’s awesome! My oldest son gave me the “fever” several years ago when I went to visit him in AZ! I live in NC so I’m always on the side of the road or traipsing through the swamp to get to a location, it’s only a matter of time before it happens to me….now ik how to answer lol 😂!

The thing's we do for rocks 🤣
I've been seen carrying a rock so big I had to set it down every 10 15 ft or so till I finally got it to the car, had a audience for that one too😂
also please be careful out rockhounding by yourself, I've ran into some scary characters when out rockhounding.
Loved the video Ariel, thanks for sharing ❤

I do believe those red crystals were garnets, some of the rocks brought down by the glaciers have them. In addition you can find them in the bedrock along the Minnesota river out to the west. The ones in glacial stones are usually really fractured, but ones sourced along the Minnesota river can ocasionly be gemmy if lucky. No idea on that last red one, it's pretty

Oh wow-I did not know that!! That is super cool and definitely something I will have to keep an eye out for during future hunts! 🙌😊

I think the red one she found has garnet in it as well.. people are finding them in the river and creek beds in Minnesota quite often

I live in Minnesota too. I absolutely know how you feel when cars pass by, so embarrassing! 😅 Especially when they stop and ask if you need help! The look the people give sometimes! 😂 Anyhow, love your videos! 😊

Definitely thinking feldspar. Really gemmy feldspar. Here’s an idea. Put on a cheap Hi Vis vest. Kinda makes you look more “official”. Maybe a hard hat as well? Just kind of makes you look like you’re there for a purpose (besides collecting cool rocks lol). Then those weird looks just melt away…

    • @AgateAriel
      @AgateAriel  2 года назад +1

Agreed! Definitely leaning toward feldspar! Also the vest and hat are not a bad idea 🤣

My daughter doesn't like when I get out to look at rocks under trees and dirt patches when we are out. Glad I am so old I don't care what people think anymore. Occasionally she will bring me a rock she sees on the ground and thinks is pretty. Even keeps her favorites. So glad to have found you here on RUclips.

Don't know how I missed this video last year but I've done this and have life hacks to help everyone. I had the police called on me when I was on a remote dirt road. Someone thought I was drunk lol. The cop told me to get a couple cones and a reflective vest so I looked like I belonged there. So I did, it's amazing what happens when people think you are in an area in an official manner lol.

Don't feel embarrassed. Half the cars that went by probably guessed you were looking for dusty gems, and the other half probably never felt the joy of unearthing one.

The little red stone you took home with you is most likely red granite. Yes red granite. Its not that common in some areas but having grown up in the southwest and spent lots of time in the deserts of California and Arizona I have seen just about every color granite there is. I highly doubt that it could be polished but it will be a great rock to add to your collection.

@@AgateAriel there are plenty of cool rocks to hound for. I only have 2 problems when I do this. 1) I have so many rocks I don't know what to do with and have 3 tumblers that never stop running, because of the quantity I have. 2) sometimes they just do unique from all the other rocks I see everyday. But they just to big for my tumblers like I see you every one who hound for sometimes. But it's still fun to walk around and see everything!

In Florida, if we went to a rock pile like that, we would find venomous coral snakes and rattlesnakes. yikes.
We can go to the river here which has lots of fossils and sharks teeth. So I think I’ll try to find some fossilized coral in the riverbeds on the side that I can maybe chisel out. Even though we have alligators in our rivers, we can see them coming. 🐊👀
