If you don't want to chew the crap out of your pot holes, (1) put some tape over it before drilling, (2) Use the proper bit (you are using a spade bit!!!), and (3) Drill from the outside in or top - down. Luckily the knob goes over that mess you made. Glad to see you play much better than you drill - lol
