I can beat your "one of the first ten or fifteen" pens, my Sheaffer Imperial was my very first fountain pen. I am not ashamed to say that even today it is the pen I judge others by. That inlaid nib (steel medium on my original) is a real pleasure to use even after all these years. Thanks for the great post!!
Same for me. My parents used Sheaffers and they captured my imagination with their mechanical sophistication. Not counting my school pens (?) I got my first real Sheaffer from my mom when I went to college. I still have it and still love Sheaffer/Sheaffer's.
Damn... Lucky!!! The imperial is one of my grails(pens I will keep for the rest of my life) i just got my hands on a triumph imperial today and Im in love with it♥
Late to this thread, but I could not resist pitching in with my heartfelt love and praise for these Sheaffer Imperial pens. I have three of these very same pens (aren’t they also known as the 440s?). Bought them for $30-40 each, in very good condition earlier this year, Don’t know if others may think I paid too much. Anyway, I have a bright red, a dark blue, and my favourite - an all-brushed chrome w/black grip section in F and M in these attractive diamond-shaped inlaid nibs. I wish I had a broad or a stub, too. I absolutely adore these pens. Sublime smooth writers, even by the standards of classic old Sheaffer pens. And that’s saying a lot.
Peter Puleo ...Darn, I forgot to add I also have a dark green one with a 14k nib. That cost me $90 including shipping. Alas, my other three I mentioned earlier have steel nibs.
I love the Vintage Sheaffer's. What you have there is the last of the vintage Made in the USA Sheaffer after it was purchased by either Bic or Cross, and a beautiful pen! Thanks for the video. 🙂👍✒
Hey Brian. I was given a Sheaffer Imperial very much like the gold one you have shown. Thanks for the info about it. I appreciate your pool of knowledge.
I had one gifted by my father when I was in 8th std. A blue one. I used it till the rubber bladder started leaking. No spare available so stopped using it. Now have a Black one my father was using... just keeping it as I like its nib shape.....
Thanks , Brian. Not enough attention is given to Sheaffer pens. They are usually great writers. I do realize that there hasn't been much new or exciting from Sheaffer. I do like my Taranis and 300's, though.

If you got 14K nibs for that price, you got an excellent price--fantastic price.

All great pens. Enjoy. I often wonder if writing performance is much different between 14K and steel. The inlaid nib is unique.

It can be used as an eye dropper pen
Unfortunately the rubber pump no more working and I have it removed. it can be used as a dip and write pen now.
I love these pens
