I make big batches of sausage rolls for Christmas, they are our favourite nibble, better than all the party foods you can get from the supermarkets. I mix finely chopped raw onion and fresh sage with the sausage meat and yes - I do make my own pastry. Not puff (ain’t no-one got time to do that normally, let alone at Christmas!) but a sort of cheat’s rough puff, grating frozen fat into the flour. All butter makes the best version but of course, in these straitened economic times it’s cheaper to use half butter and half lard - they still taste delicious. I freeze them, just take out a few as needed to that then warm them through (air fryer, or oven if it’s already on.) The pastry re-crisps beautifully. Christmas is the only time I make them and we get through several dozen over the period because everyone woofs them, so making ahead is the only way to go.
Wow, it sounds like you are a very organised lady indeed, and your sausage rolls sound delicious too with the sage and onion. I might try those. Quite a few people have said that they cook before freezing, I might try that as well. There might be bits and bobs of food left over, but never a sausage roll, or a twist, both winners in my book. Hi Lynn, making me feel hungry🍲. Never made pizza twists, but I'm going to give them a go. I sometimes add Bury black pudding to my sausage rolls, making an incersion lengthways down the sausage to insert the pudding. Delicious. Food is one of the pleasures in life, and nothing like homemade. ❤❤

@@Nanna-M they are I sometimes use the same mixture and make a sort of Wellington which we have as a main meal with either chips or potatoes &veg. I don’t like black pudding so I won’t be trying those 🤣🤗

She always does Grandma’s cookie day at Christmas. All the kids gather to make them. She uses a cookie dough mix she buys…somewhere. Oh my im salivating watching this lol ....I've never made pizza twists and these look delicious 😋 i use a pizza cutter on the pastry as its easier to cut. I usually mix the onion into sausage meat but mostly just use plain sausage as thats what my lot like. Hope you enjoyed your time with Ida...they grow so fast. Thanks for another fab vlog Lynn ❤

It’s just one of those smells isn’t it, cosy and mouth watering. He’s feeling much better now thank goodness, and he’ll be tucking into those rolls and twist like you wouldn’t believe, then proceed to tell us he doesn’t eat much hahaha every time ❤️

Fab Lynn loved the pizza twist. I made my sausage rolls earlier in the week. I cook my though and then just have to warm them up. I did pork mince apple and sage. They are my favourites. Love sausage rolls. It’s beginning to feel like Christmas at least it’s cold in Melbourne for a change lol

I make sausage rolls with sausage mince , oinions, grated carrots,egg, breadcrumbs,a splash of worstershire sauce,a splash of tomato sauce, parsley and spring oinions.I don't know if you get sausage mince in the UK. I live in Melbourne Australia.

I got that mat off Temu, and I use it all the time now, it just wipes clean, and I roll it up and put an elastic band round it. Oh she’s been an absolute delight, so cute, she hugged the Christmas tree haha. I’m shattered now though ❤️ father in law is on the mend so thank you my lovely ❤️

Not made those pizza twists but some pinwheels.....sheet of puff pastry, spread with marmite, cover in cheese, roll up as tight as you can, place in fridge to firm up pastry, then slice, cook and enjoy, delish....tfs Jax ❤x

Oh I love sausage rolls but they dont like me, doesn't stop me from eating them, there is always Gaviscon handy, I have mixed raw chopped onion with the sausage meat and I have also put cranberry sauce on top of the sausage meat,. yours look so good as do the pizza twists not made those before but will be doing some , I think the children will love them , enjoy your time with Ida xx
I’ve never heard of so many different ways of making sausage rolls, there’s been quite a few on here, it’s fabulous. Oh the children will love the twists of hey like pizza, so easy to eat and go lovely with a dip ❤️❤️❤️
I put onion in my sausage rolls but I just chop the onion finely and lightly cook it in a little water in microwave, drain and mix it into sausage meat with a little chopped fresh sage from the garden, lovely. Cook them and freeze, they reheat fine from the freezer. But I’m sure yours are good too.
I’ve never cooked them and then froze, but I’m thinking I will do, a few people have said they cook and freeze. I might try a couple, see if I like them. And the way you do your onion in here microwave, I love hat idea, so thank you for sharing that with me Hazel ❤️❤️❤️
They look delish and I, m gonna make the twists. A wee tip cut with a pizza wheel it's so quick. I will cook all mine off, freeze them and then they will only need heating up. If you have the oven on to cook one off you might as well cook them all off saves a lot of money. Keep up the good work Lynnx

Absolutely, I live alone but always batch cook for the freezer. I make batches of mince pies and steak pies as well as sausage rolls, they heat perfectly. I always defrost them first. Look forward to the next baking video 👍❤️

I make the twists as well, ones with just cheese and onion and the others with cheese and bacon. My daughter doesn't eat red meat so the cheese and onion ones are for her . Hi Lynn, those look so delicious. I think anything you wrap in puff pastry would taste good. It's like you said it all so easy to do. And another great recipe you make ahead and freeze. That's the best kind don't you think? I think I would like to try spreading some nutella and making it like the pizza twist. Sprinkle some icing sugar over them when they come out of the oven. There's o end to what you can use with puff pastry is there? I'm not a sausage fan, hubby is for sure. I would make the sausage ones for him and I would eat the pizza twists. The apron and head bow looks so cute on you. You are a proper Martha Stewart. And once again your reward for making all the delicious Hors d'oeuvres is you are the official taste tester. Yum.

I love onions but my daughter hates them she is a super taster and it makes it difficult to make meals for us both. Your pizza twists look gorgeous and your sausage rolls look yummy especially with fried onion. if i made them i would put chutney in them. You have made me hungry now lol. However, i shall refrain from making them because family are not visiting this year and i am on a diet!! lol

I have made Delia Smiths sausage rolls with the onion mixed into the meat also a quick recipe for pastry is her recipe that you grate cold butter into the flour. Obviously not as quick as Jusrol.😊

I remember my Mam making sausage rolls every Christmas with sausage meat ( not sure what she added to it ) but the were lovely. She made shortcrust pasty from scratch in those days, she also made mince pies from scratch too well the pastry anyway. Enjoy.

Hi Lynn I made some sausage rolls last week I bought some puff pastry spread it with cranberry sauce layer the sausage meat on top then some streaky bacon and then some cheese they were delicious 😋 I will definitely be making some pizza twists though x
