- Based on my own personal experiences I share in this video how to successfully have a male peacock cichlid aquarium. The methods are simple to do and worth experimenting with if not in use presently. This video also contains great footage of some colorful peacock cichhlids that you will enjoy watching.
I want to thank you for your just plain and down home logic on fish keeping not the super know it all whose words lose meaning. I learned more from your videos because it gave me simple easy to understand advice. I think the most important thing I took away from your video was learn for myself and enjoy and just have fun with my fish. Thank you
You are welcome!
Watching in 2023 love the way you explained everything I am new to the Peacock recently started a 75 gallon purchased 15 2 1/2 inch all of them have color but I’ll come to find out that some of these peacocks could be juiced I’ve had them for two weeks, and the colors are still amazing I’m hoping that they’re not juiced. Love your video. What do you think about 2 1/2 inch peacocks with color already is it possible
I've been told the same thing by a pet shop owner.
He recommended 25 or more for a 55 gal. Cichlid tank.
Most fish shops give pretty good advice! Especially if they are locally owned!
Ricky ur the best FYI
They look beautiful . Reminds me of my own fish . So similar. Just bigger. Good video
Thank you! May your fish continue to do great!
you have a blue faced with a orange body radish even and a orange Top Fin tip fin and want to know what it's exactly called because I have a youngster like that and I was wondering what they are called because he's different from the red emperor but doesn't exactly look like any other peacock of his type and I see you have a somewhat grown one. curious to know what it's called?
Great video. Fish are looking beautiful ✌️
It is much appreciated!
I just wanted to say I loved your tank and your video, it was very informative to me! But I was wondering how I should stock my 55 gallon, I have 12 currently in the tank. And also if I should add more what type of peacock should I look to add?
I gave my recommendation in the video but it is always best to decide for oneself! As far as type there are a lot of nice peacocks available! Choose the ones you would be most happy with. You can get a bunch of the same kind or a variety! Have fun!
Awesome video keep up the good job.
Thank You 😊!
Your tank is beautiful
Thank You!
great video
Thank you very much!
Excellent looking tank, how many would you recommend putting in a 150 gallon tall? Also would it be alright to have on frontosa in with a large group of peacocks?
I would suggest not putting frontosas with peacocks! As for the number of peacocks in a 150 gallon there are many factors that could influece this like filtration, caves-hiding spots, etc! You can put a lot for sure but how many would be best for you to think it through and go for it!
Cool thanks, I’m thinking like 50 and we’ll see how it goes. Hope for the best
Nice
Thank you!
Nice fish
Thank you!
Nice😊
Thank You very much 😎!
Awesome tank . I have just about 20 fish in my tank . And some fish are timid and colored down. But only thing i worry about is nitrate levels. I have an fx6and4 with seachem matrix and chemipure blue with sponges and pinky filter floss. I want to add more fish but just not sure if my filters can handle the bioload. Any thoughts?
I use an algae scrubber. I have videos on it if your interested.
@@RickyKenerlyCichlids I'll have to check it out.
Wow, you have some beauties in this tank!
Thank you! I hope I did good on the video footage of them!
Hey quick question. Love ur video very informative! I recently rescued an albino peacock that has cloys eye to the point where it’s like a bubble sack. I put in aquarium salt and raised the temp to 82 because this fiah also came with ich. Any other suggestions? It’s been about 2 days and the ich dropped off but the eve is still cloudy. Was thinking melafix but idk. Any fees back would be highly appreciated also he is quarantined
I haven’t had much success with medication for bubble eye do I quit using it. It is expensive and never seemed to work no matter what I used! It might heal up overtime or it might lose the eye 👁 but it they usually won’t die from it. I had a peacock who had it recently and it has taken about 6 weeks to heal. He is doing great now!
@@RickyKenerlyCichlids I’m preparing my 75 gallon really interested in getting the peacock African cichlids but I was informed in other videos to avoid rocks and caves with the peacocks because it makes them get territorial and fight
How much food would you give a 75 gallon with 25 fish
What type of peacock is the blue and red one at 3:37 ??
Honest question because I’m having trouble with this with only 8 Plus a pleco in a 75. How do you keep up All the poop?! Every day I have mounds a poop all over my sand substrate from just 2-4 feedings. I almost have to suck poop out every day it’s so much.
I only feed once a day! I also feed tetra pond sticks that are easily digestible and the poop 💩 from the food breaks down pretty fast!
Also you might want to try positioning a wave maker in your tank so it circulates the tank and moves all the poop to one corner where your filter can pick it up that helped a lot for me
Hi sir actually I need some help in keeping chiklid fish tank I have about 4ft long tank by 2ft width 2ft height tank so how much I can keep and can mix Male and female together please do reply thanks great tank you have thare.
I believe you can have as many fish as in the video you watched. Your aquarium is a little bigger so it will give them room to grow! I have successfully kept both males and females together as long as there are caves or hiding spots!
I have a 2ft aquarium in all dimension....how many cichlids in general do you suggest I should keep and also how many Peacock only I can keep?
There are too many factors that keep me from giving you a number! Size of fish, filtration, hiding spots, species, etc. Fish are like humans each are different. Certain numbers can work for a certain group and not work out in another group of the same fish. You could have a certain number for awhile and as they grow have to upgrade to a larger aquarium or move them to others. Longer aquariums work the best for peacocks! A square tank like that would be better for a small group of mbuna long term!
What size of tank you have and how many peacocks? What kind of substrate you're using ? Are they pure white or ivory coulor?
This aquarium is a 75 gallon! I have since moved them to a 125 gallon aquarium! This aquarium in the video I have crushed coral sand!
I'm planning to have 30 on my 75 gallon tank planning of having 2 males and 2 females of the same breed will they do fine if I have fishes in 1:1ratio (only peacocks)
I usually have several females per male but it can work.
Ty sir 😊
I need some help. I have my 20 gallon tank, and im thinking about buying a baby cichlid and baby peacock bass. My dad is also installing a pond in our backyard and I want to know if I can keep the cichlid and peacock in the 20 gallon just so they get bigger and then put them into the pond.
The peacock bass gets big fast and might eat the other Cichlid or outgrow the aquarium before the pond is finished. They also need warm water so you would have to bring them back inside after it cools down again. I would suggest you talk it over with your Dad and go from there!
@@RickyKenerlyCichlids Ok thank you.
kicksone you are welcome!
Are all the fish in this aquarium male peacocks? No females in this tank? I'm seeing immature peacock cichlids and wanted to know if they were all male also? How can you tell ??
I have a empty 20gal how many peacocks can I put in there
I would recommend getting a 55 gallon or larger if you want to have a bunch get full size!
How many would you recommend for a 90g? I was thinking 40?
That sounds good! I suggest having plenty of caves for them to hide in to lower the aggression! You might have to remove some when they get full size but that can take a long time!
Ricky. Are the blue and red peacocks... red empresses?
They are mixed peacocks from past breeding projects!
Ricky Kenerly Cichlids. Thanks. I have the same ones but don’t know what to call them. Are you still breeding Cichlids?
I have so many fish now I have ran out of room and I don’t want to set up any more fish tanks at this time! I do have plans for some of my peacocks but it is long term!
Can frontosas eat kelp pellets?
Yes as long as they are sinking pellets!
Ok they are thanks!
The Cichlids in the video are nowhere close to full size. Would you keep 25 or more full size male Peacocks in a 55 gallon tank?
Most likely not if they were actual full size. You could have that many with all female and one alpha male with little to no problems though. Except it still would be tight for space at full size peacocks. That is an awesome point to bring up when considering long term living quarters for the peacocks. All the fish you see in this video has since been moved to a 125 gallon and they all had huge growth spurts after the move!

Thanks for your reply! It is relatively simple to raise an overcrowded tank of Peacocks when they are smaller. It is a much different scenario to maintain a tank of 5-7" mature males. They can inflict more damage on one another at that size, they are more aggressive about claiming and defending a territory, and if you ever get a female in the tank by mistake, it almost causes a nuclear war! I am relatively new at keeping Cichlids, but that has been my experience. I have a mixture of about 25 male Peacocks and Haps in a 210 gallon tank, and some smaller ones in both a 55 and 40 gallon "grow" tanks. There is quite a bit of information about how to start out with smaller Cichlids, I bet your subscribers would really benefit with some advice and instruction on how best to keep them when they become adult size.
Thank you for your suggestion.
I have a hard time getting my nitrates down
You might be interested in my videos on my home made algae scrubber! It does a great job at keeping my nitrates down!
Is it all male tank ? I think there r some female ? How big is the tank
It is an aquarium set up for breeding. He was the only male in the aquarium. It is a 30 gallon high aquarium!
Frontosa Cichlids And More I think they are mostly males isn’t? Wow only 30g? Looks way bigger
I apologize I thought I was making a comment on another video! It is 75 gallon with mostly males in it. There are some females that have been doing good for over 6 months so I left them in with them! They do some breeding but I do not collect from them even though it could turn out to be an awesome surprise batch! Thanks for commenting and asking a question. I hope I haven't answered for the wrong video recently besides with your comment!
Have a bare tank so no teritories, and colourfeed
I am going to be doing that in my 125 tomorrow! I think you will like the results!
Do you sell Ricky?
I used too but not anymore!
Um I'm pretty sure that some of those peacocks u have there are females
You have a good eye!
Yup I saw the females right away
Your tank is filthy.. I can tell you haven't cleaned it in a year
Sorry, but that's a fishsoup!
