In this video I discuss important information on how to breed African Cichlid Peacocks. This video Features my Dragon Blood Peacock Cichlid "Orange Crisp"
If you watch a few of my videos you know I am still learning and sometimes there is just a few days in between discovering something simple but amazing! Seeing someones else perspective allows myself to think about things I probably would not have otherwise! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I was just uploaded a video of a half mbuna half dragon blood male with a blue Mbumba female . iv been keeping africans for 3 years. Im looking forward to getting more females thanks for the information!!

Hey Rick thanks for all your great videos this was a good one I was wondering if you sell any of your females and if you ship your fish cuz you gotta buyer
I have a dragon blood peacock cichlid but I'm still not sure if it's a male or female, I want to breed it with a electric blue cichlid to make a fish no one has
Hii just a quick question, isn’t white sand bad for them? I have like 6+ females to a few males and the males lost a bit of color and I was told it’s dominance and the sand reflecting
I have a question...I'm just getting really into wanting to breed cichlids since I first fell in love with them this past year that I learned about them. When setting up to breed do I need to keep the different varieties of them separate? Will they breed with other variety if they are mixed in the same tank? For example if I were to breed the White Scolafi and breed the blue Johannis and breed red zebras. But I would want them to stick with their own color and breed together as the same varieties instead of mixing colors. Do I need to keep the three groups all in separate tanks? Or could I have them all in the same huge tank to breed without them mixing?
Hi. I have 2 male peacocks.. can I put 5 females in the tank with both males or should I get another tank and separate the 2 males, and give them both 5 females each?
Hello im new to the breeding thing...i have one chiclid thats been dig a cave in the sand....wont let anyone near it...and everyone else is all on the other side and is watching this one fish...could you tell me what is going on please?
LOVE YOUR VIDEO!!!😍🐠 Thanks always wanted to start breeding Africans. Started building my pairs I April. I now have 8 groups started of Mbunas and Peacocks... I have a growout video and I'm about to do my hair has Fishroom African breeder rack... 8 tanks with fry tanks below. Thanks for the inspiration... Melinda ~Mel Bs Monster Cichlids~
There are times you actually can if they developed in a smaller aquarium. Usually not though! You can add me to facebook and send me a picture and I can look. No promises I can identify it at that size.
I would not recommend it! The male wants to mate at all times and can stress and harm the female if there is only one. If you do it that way take the male out of the aquarium once they spawn!
I have had some breed at a very small size. I believe it is age and health that are the biggest factors. The broods can be small when the female isn’t very big. I usually wait until they are around two inches or so before I collect babies from them unless they are very special!
@@RickyKenerlyCichlids thank you for the response :) I always thought they had to get up to 6 inches to breed them but I don't have experience with breeding them, I might give it a go since my cichlids are around 3 to 4 inches
80 to 82 stimulates them but they will breed at room temperature. Make sure to fatten the females up after a brood because you can breed the females to actual death!
They will do fine with normal food. They just don’t need to mate again right after having a brood. They don’t eat while holding the eggs and fry in their mouth!
Not yet but I will for sure in the future! I have one from the same cross but a different male it resulted in all dragonbloods in the batches! This is a video of the babies from Starburtz! ruclips.net/video/6IH-yB9ubyY/видео.html The grey ones in the video are Icebreakers.
Been watching your ice breaker videos there awsome fish i have a lovely bright red dragon blood do you just breed them with female peacocks or female dragon bloods to get more dragon bloods ?
In the past I would breed them with just more dragon bloods. The only reason I started breeding them with other varieties was to see if I could get another strain/variety! I enjoy that most from the breeding I do. I also have line bred for certain traits!
It can depend on if you want to tumble eggs or not. I always wait atleast 3 days after spawning before tumbling them to make sure they are fertilized. Normally I wait 7 or more!
Once the male has made his corner and picked his female, I scoop out all other females. I’m afraid while they are mating the interruptions of chasing off other females, decreases the amount of babies produced. My average without intervention during mating is probably about 15 eggs. With intervention, it’s over 40.
I just have a random assortment of males and females for a year or two now, and at least one time they bred once because I suddenly had three babies one day
Wow great looking fish!
Here we are 2022 and still a banger video. Thank you for the awesome information

Cichlids can mix easily! If you want pure breeds you have to keep them separate!
Hi. I have 2 male peacocks.. can I put 5 females in the tank with both males or should I get another tank and separate the 2 males, and give them both 5 females each?
Is a 55 gallon tank too big for 1 zrock male and 3 female z rocks
Beautiful male cichlid!
Thank you!
Hi Ricky: great vids!!! I live in Nashville and currently have Mbuna 90g. How do I know when they are breeding.
If you see two fish going around in circles they are probably breeding!
Hello im new to the breeding thing...i have one chiclid thats been dig a cave in the sand....wont let anyone near it...and everyone else is all on the other side and is watching this one fish...could you tell me what is going on please?
Should you remove the fry with the mother while mouth brooding, or wait for her to release them and try to catch them?
If you want the female to have natural release put her in a separate tank by herself to do so!

Thank you! I’m not sure how I missed your comment! I hope you are still an active breeder of fish 🐠!
are these dragon blood females?
Hey Rick Good video can you tell if its a male when its small 1 at inches?
There are times you actually can if they developed in a smaller aquarium. Usually not though! You can add me to facebook and send me a picture and I can look. No promises I can identify it at that size.
I couldn't quite tell which fish you were talking about. Could you please point them out? lol!
my babies always get eaten. Only 3 survived by hiding under coral til they got bigger.
Would putting one male and one female in a single tank work?
I would not recommend it! The male wants to mate at all times and can stress and harm the female if there is only one. If you do it that way take the male out of the aquarium once they spawn!
Do you have to use a tumbler?
I do sometimes and sometimes not! Depending on fish load and tank space.
How many tanks do I need to start breeding peacocks?
Two!
Where do you buy just females?
Some online places allow you to choose what sex you purchase! Also local breeders might be able to help you!
Hey awesome channel, RUclips reccomended this today in 2019! How large do you think the breeding size is in your experience?
I have had some breed at a very small size. I believe it is age and health that are the biggest factors. The broods can be small when the female isn’t very big. I usually wait until they are around two inches or so before I collect babies from them unless they are very special!

If you need anymore information just let me know! You will have fun raising the offspring!
@@RickyKenerlyCichlids I'm sure its lots of fun! Do you have instagram?
I use Facebook some. I never started Instagram.
Any certain water temp that encourage breeding?
80 to 82 stimulates them but they will breed at room temperature. Make sure to fatten the females up after a brood because you can breed the females to actual death!
@@RickyKenerlyCichlids So would protein be a better choice after brooding?
They will do fine with normal food. They just don’t need to mate again right after having a brood. They don’t eat while holding the eggs and fry in their mouth!
you got any videos of how them fish turned out

It is a 30 gallon High!
Hi Ricky I am just getting into peacock cichlid breeding and i was just wondering when i should strip the female of her fry.
It can depend on if you want to tumble eggs or not. I always wait atleast 3 days after spawning before tumbling them to make sure they are fertilized. Normally I wait 7 or more!
Thx ricky i want them to be free swimming though so do you have an recommendations on when i should strip the fry?
Around 15 days! You have to know when they spawned though!
Thank you very much sir! I love your channel keep up the Great work!! :D
You are welcome!
What kind of cichlid is the females
They are of the Icebreaker Variety!
ruclips.net/video/eVymM-icdrk/видео.html This is the video of the Icebreaker Variety I created mixing my peacocks!

With intervention, it’s over 40.
Had a breeder tell me lighter color/more silver females produce nicer males... have you noticed or heard of this?
I haven't heard of that but they might have produced better males for the desired traits he was trying to obtain!
never heard of hand me UPs...
"The females are usually ugly"! WOW!
Most of them!
I just have a random assortment of males and females for a year or two now, and at least one time they bred once because I suddenly had three babies one day
