Chat/Comment Guidelines:

The Rules:
1: The timer starts when walking away from Professor Elm after receiving the starter Pokémon.
2: Only the Challenge Pokémon may participate in battle.
3: No items in battle, except Balls from the bag.
4: No evasion-increasing TMs, and no Rest and Sleep Talk TMs until every other option has been exhausted.
5: No intentional uses of glitches or exploits, except the Teleport glitch after the SS Aqua.
6: No Rare Candies until facing Red. Rare Candies will be used in a 3-3-4 pattern.
7: Timer may be paused for breaks in recording, but no inputs may be made when the timer is paused.
8: Save states are permitted in the overworld, but no save states may be used mid-battle.
9: If the challenge Pokémon faints, the previous save state must be reloaded and progress regained.

These runs are so funny in-lore. Like Clair has probably been training those Dragonair alongside her clan before the 10-year old player character was born, and suddenly one day a young trainer comes to challenge you before one-shotting all of them with a single dumb bird. That’s the equivalent of a professional athlete getting wrecked by an elementary schooler and no one batting an eye.
It is weird, isn't it? I guess that's why Clair gets so frustrated when you beat her and refuses to hand her badge over.
Dodrio, though, isn't a single dumb bird. It's three dumb birds taped together! :D

You know what's even crazier? That Clair can't pass that simple as hell quiz in the Dragon's Den lol

Definitely a forgotten gem, I can't imagine anyone getting to where the doduos spawn in gen1 without already having either a spearow or pidgey...
I liked the condensed format, it didnt feel rushed! And I really like the leaderboard!

I think the only game where Dodrio is viable is XY where you can find it on Route 5(?), so you have a chance of using it as your main flying type, but even then, most people would prefer a Talonflame!
The next video is going to be my longest one, just because of how challenging it was, but I'll be going to the condensed format after that - I want to get some of the struggle through with that one.
Mareep's gone on the list - it'll be the first three-stage evolution that I'll have done, so it'll be very interesting to do!
Dodrio felt more like: "Congratulations your Angry Bird has evolved to an Angri-- OMG it's attacking EVERYONE! Run RUN for your life!"
That's about right for Dodrio. You just need to look at it funny for it to start attacking you!

I like working with Pokémon which don't get as much of the spotlight as they maybe deserve, and Dodrio definitely pulled his weight in this run!

I don't think I ever used Doduo or Dodrio in gen 2, but that Rage strat was clever! I wanna try it now in Gold or HGSS emulator. Gen 2 had the best sprites!!!
The big problem with the Doduo line in Gen II is its location - you can't get it until after you've beaten Clair!
Dodrio deserves a rerun with HP Ground
I've added that to the redo list right near the very top, as Dodrio definitely deserves to try with HP Ground!
Not sure how much of a difference it would’ve made, but you can get the pink bow from a lady in the radio tower after the rocket stuff which slightly boosts the power of normal moves, maybe worth picking up next time a normal type runs through johto
I wish I'd have known about the Pink Bow when I did the Dodrio run!
I had read about the Polkadot Bow which is only available by trading a Jigglypuff from RBY, and assumed it was the only Normal-enchancing item in the game!
I've started grabbing the Pink Bow, though - it featured very briefly in Piloswine's run!

I love this challenge, Dodrio is my favorite Gen 1 bird and the only one I ever use.
It's an excellent choice! I was never too fond of Pidgeot or Fearow, and Farfetch'd was never strong enough to be viable, so Dodrio fit the bill perfectly.
Dodrio is very underrated.

Also love the cut content. For example going grunt to grunt in slowpoke well, but not showing the battles. Just going through the "dungeon". Great idea, and executed well.

I try and put a couple of those cuts in each video, they're a bit of extra faff to do, but I think it gives a little bit more context to where I am in the game!
Sad that Fearow run was faster than the Dodrio run because of HP Ground. That's Massive. 😲
I will happily do a rerun of Dodrio again with HP Ground, just to see if it makes much of a difference - Dodrio's run was done before I started choosing the HP type, so he was at a bit of a disadvantage!
Hands down the best non legendary flying type for gen2. 110 base attack with STAB drill peck, return and the event move low kick.

That's a really interesting idea - I have plans for the Slowpoke line in November, but I could do a quick video with Slowking if I have some downtime between other challenges. Leave it with me!

I'll put Ditto on the list! It's going to take a lot of planning, so it might be later in September, but I'll see what I can do to make it work!
Does Teleport move you to a Pokemon center like an escape rope? Or do you have to be outside for Teleport to work. I appreciate the videos as I want to speed run myself .
In Generation 2, you need to be on the overworld for Teleport to work, but it'll always Teleport you back to the last Pokémon Center you stepped foot in - you don't need to heal there.
Dig just so happens to use the same animation as Teleport, so I quite often combine the two to make a smoother transition. :)

Just use all your rare candy at red since you have no metric for finishing pokemon level. Could've finished a couple min faster...
Can you do a Stantler run at some point? It's my favorite Pokemon and it doesn't get a ton of love.
I have put Stantler on my list - I've got a couple which are already in the process of being made, so it'll be the start of next month, but I'll happily give Stantler a guided tour of Johto and Kanto!
Quick update for you: Stantler's going to be the video for 13th September. My Tuesday videos are the ones which require more effort put into them, but I don't have the time this weekend, so it's been pushed back a week - hopefully you don't mind waiting a bit longer!
