Neat, Noctowl doesn’t get much love. I really liked Hoothoot and Noctowl on my first playthrough in Johto and thought them getting psychic moves was so cool.
What in unbelievable run for Noctowl!! 10th place for a defensive birb is incredible. Keep them coming squidgy, can't wait to see who will challenge the ranks next.
Thank YOU so much for a Noctowl run!! 21 years ago, when I was playing Crystal as a boy, Noctowl was my HM friend!! He's not strong like his big brother Fearow is but my goodness I love to see him in action nonetheless!! 😂
We did a redo of Dodrio a few months ago, but I reckon I could do another one to see if I can improve him further. He's my favourite bird to run, after all!
Rng and some decent bulk definitely helped during Red. I really thought we'd see a few resets there so was quite surprised to see a first time victory. I really liked hoothoot as a kid so I'm glad noctowl did well, all things considered
I've always loved Noctowl ever since the Anime had the tiny Shiny that I loved so much. Noctowl and Totodile were just my favorites that gen from the anime. That being said in actual Gen 2 it's movepool is...unfortunate. It's a special attacker that gets basically no special attacks, and it's support pool isn't great. At least it has Curse set up, or I suppose sleep abuse with some luck, but still... However great to see that, albeit with a lucky Red fight, it did pretty great!
Noctowl may be pretty weak offensively with low attack and limited move pool to fully utilize its high special and average speed. But it has a few things going for it. - Hypnosis is a run saver. Tried and true method to completely render a target completely useless. - It's surprisingly bulky, with quite a lot of HP backed with decent special defense to absorb damage like a sponge. Synergizes well with Hypnosis and Dream Eater. It is a very late game combo but it's probably the best way for Noctowl to heal.
I will maintain that Noctowl should've been a Psychic/Flying type. It *literally* learns more Psychic moves than Flying moves. Guess they just couldn't have it step on Xatu's toes.
Lance the lier with a flyer and cheating… the you learned dream eater lol 🤘🏽 always been my favorite bird Pokémon your right why not flying /psychic type
Tentacruel's gonna be a little while off, as we've just recently done the other Water/Poison type. It'll possibly get a testing the waters stream at some point over summer, though.
Mud-Slap would've helped against the Magnemite, but it would've arguably been a lot worse against the Steelix because of Steelix's huge Defense. Having a neutral Special Attack (especially with a Special Attacker) has proven to be more consistent than relying on Mud-Slap in that battle.
Ngl, I tried using it in a normal Playthrough once, it may have its pros, but for me it wasn't very useful as I almost had no ways of properly using it
Noctowl shines when it's played on its own - it's a very greedy TM user and all of those TMs are better suited to other mons. In a full team of 6, you might as well grab a Fearow or Dodrio
That's a common misconception - Certain badges in Generation II give you a 12.5% boost (rounded down) to certain stats, and the display reads the in-battle stats, so they'll come with all badge boosts. The most obvious one to notice is Physical Attack - once you obtain the Zephyrbadge, the Physical Attack stat will be recalculated in battles. I read directly from the game's RAM for the stats, so in theory, they should never be wonky!
There is, but it's broken in Generation II - if a Pokémon's Sp.Atk is between 0-205, or 433-660, the boost to Sp.Def won't be applied. I'm not 100% sure on the exact reasoning behind the boost not being applied, but it's been incredibly annoying with some Pokémon!
I think I preferred seeing the base stats on the overlay rather than the live stats. Easier to compare base stats between different pokemon, (including when the challenge pokemon evolves), when the numbers are static. If I see a 160 base attack, I know we're in for a good time. But it's a little murkier with the updating figures. It's not major, just a thought.
I'm currently working on a way to have both sets of stats displayed on-screen. I love having the live stats, but miss seeing the BST summary, too. Leave it with me, and I'll see what I can come up with for the next batch of recording!

Noctowl is my child, I love him so muchhhhh. He’s a little terrible but we stan a legend. ❤

Seeing that 21 years suddenly made me feel ancient!
Noctowl got really, really lucky against Red
"And our Hoothoot goes hoooooot" lmao. I legit woke my wife up by laughing at that Bugsy battle. Glad I saved the video until after work!
An amazing Birb
I had high hopes for this until I saw its move set. Then the luck kicked in and just kept kicking until the end. What a run!
Fair play to Noctowl, that was a great Red fight and an unexpected result from the face of it with it's stat spread and movepool
Seeing the hm friends list on this video made my day! Thanks again for the awesome content and community you've got your self here!
The line I look forward to everytime is the liar with the fliers.
Red fight was amazing. Great run for Noctowl.
Love watching every new upload to see all the innovations used to make so many different Pokémon work!
Wow, what a fantastic Red fight! Super surprising to me.
Dodrio deserves a rerun! It was early game and your skills have drastically improved Squidgy!
We did a redo of Dodrio a few months ago, but I reckon I could do another one to see if I can improve him further. He's my favourite bird to run, after all!
Dodrio, the people's champion
@@grantabrams5851 jasmine annoying but tri attack could get a burn lol
@@grantabrams5851 return OP for that bird
Noctowl can learn confusion but not Psychic????
Somehow not until gen 3
I seriously loved this Pokemon.
Always good to see a first try Red!
I've been playing those games since they were released in 2000, and today, I realized the first sage in Sprout Tower is Elderly. 🤣🤣🤣
Rng and some decent bulk definitely helped during Red. I really thought we'd see a few resets there so was quite surprised to see a first time victory. I really liked hoothoot as a kid so I'm glad noctowl did well, all things considered

Wow, that's mind blowing!
I quite enjoy your content. Thanks.
Special defense, exactly the stat you need for a speedrun, said no one ever.
Great run! That red fight :o
Damn that was a seriously good run.

Hypnosis and Dream Eater definitely saved a LOT of time, and our Sp.Def meant we had multiple chances to just tank the hits!
Just want to say I love your voice
Thank you, Drew!
Peeking at the learnset. I'm like, why can't you learn Psychic, Noctowl?!
Everything coming up Milhouse for noctowl against Red there. I can see an alternate universe where you need to use all the rare candies
I was prepped for a very long fight, but alas, the time I had with Noctowl was cut short!
One try victory vs Red. Wow!
I really thought snorlax was going to delay this run at least 5 minutes
So did I! I was remarkably impressed by Noctowl's finesse with Red!
never knew that Noctowl had such good base HP stat
Noctowl is one of my favorites! Thanks for doing this run!
Also, can we get an Ask Squidgy Q&A for 5k subs?
Oooh, a Q&A sounds interesting, although I'm not sure I'd have anything interesting to say!
I will maintain that Noctowl should've been a Psychic/Flying type. It *literally* learns more Psychic moves than Flying moves. Guess they just couldn't have it step on Xatu's toes.
I AM SO PROUD OF NOCTOWL!! OH MY GOSH FIRST TRY RED!! AND HE MADE TOP TEN!! AMAZING!
Noctowl is one of my favorite Gen 2 Pokemon.
You have excellent taste!
@@Squidgy as do you bud! Keep up that quality content my man!
My favorite regional bird 🦉
that luck against Red holy shit
Noctowl should get a symbol for being the first 1st try Red!
That's a great idea! I'll try and think of something nice to add to Noctowl's box!
Hey! curious when you have 9 tails scheduled for? Also, im ledyba/Ledian enthusiast.
Early May for Ninetales, I believe! It's the next one I'm due to edit and voice!

Easy top 20
That red fight was nice
So sad that Noctowl has almost no special moves in Crystal =/ It would be awesome
I'm ready for a Starmie run
Starmie's one of my backup runs in case I fall ill for a week or so, but if it gets too long without release, it'll go into my regular schedule :)

That's me!
To be honest Noctowl sucked in gen 2 its move pool lacked and wasn't decent until gen 3 & 4
