    Martin, I too was laid-off at age 64. I could see it coming when they kept bringing in more and more offshore resources to do our jobs. But my husband was terminally ill and I made them let me go. In the end, I was glad to be gone. It gave me time to take care of my husband before he passed and time since to handle the multitude of issues after a passing. If I do decide to seek work in the future, it's going to be on my terms. Good luck to you and to all the other viewers dealing with this same issue.

    I fired myself from a job with a family owned business when I was 31 years old! I did much of the work and the 2 idiot sons got new cars, great benefits and great pay. I made a barely livable wage and they reneged on every promise they made me. I finally saw the writing on the wall, quit and started a new company from scratch. Fast forward 40 years and I am retiring from my business on 12/31/2024 at the tender age of 71 years old. Depends on the job.
      I stayed at my last one for nearly 17 years and only left due to being made redundant when they closed the site down altogether.
      They had to pay me a low 6 figure sum for making me redundant and I no longer needed to work again.
      I'll take job security, decent wages and conditions and low stress over changing jobs and learning new skills any day of the week.
      I spent many years doing what you say and it was way more pleasant and stress free in my last job.

    • @poppopkustomkars1234
      @poppopkustomkars1234 3 дня назад

      @ I understand. Many folks have no desire to constantly learn and are comfortable in routines. Most jobs and companies now are constantly changing and adapting. By being fluid and skills being updated, when changes occur in workplaces, I’ve found it easy to just move on and have little stress that I could adapt and get another gig. It’s no big deal when a company closed, merged, or new bosses came on board.

    • @oldbloke204
      @oldbloke204 3 дня назад

      @@poppopkustomkars1234 The more important thing, imo, is to be financially savvy so that when it happens, and it will, you're in a financial position to be able to make choices in life.
      In my view people who are in their later 50's or 60's should already be financially setup to cut back on work or take a lower paying job if they have already been working for decades.
      Also living in an area where there are a variety of opportunities is important.
      I could have easily gone back to work many times after I retired but it doesn't interest me.
      Mind you having seen some of the people I've worked with over the years I reckon I have a few more skills than many of them anyway.
