The UK was once a great place to live. We had reliable public services, fair wages, and low crime rates. Don’t get me wrong-it was never perfect. Our weather is awful and the UK hasn’t felt hugely wealthy or rapidly developing in living memory. However, we had something invaluable: stability. Taxes were fair, and the public services worked well, and most people had enough to support a basic yet comfortable lifestyle. While average homes were (and still are) very modest, and our cars and lifestyles were far from luxurious, we had what mattered most: stability, and enough time to spend quality moments with our families. But those days are gone. What was once a simple yet stable way of life is now slipping into poverty for many. Public services have stopped working, crime levels are sky high, and the stability we once found reassuring now feels fragile and uncertain.
The rot started all the way back in 1982 with thatchers bank reforms allowing banks to lend mortgages. That was the point house prices really started to creep up. Of course the higher interest rates and controlling hand of the bank of england made sure that home prices were kept low even till 1997. But come Blair, the bank of england was made independent..... they no longer supervised mortgages, and credit boom ensued....and this was the point tony Blair decides to start mass immigration..... Mass immigration combined with a 20 yr credit boom....is why life is now shyt for anyone under 40
Your arrogance got the best of you. You invited the world to come in. You thought you could feed clothes and house the world's poor. In the end it only made you poor. Ironic
You have to ask yourself why housing is so expensive, why taxes are so high, why the shops are so expensive, why it motoring so expensive, why you can't get a doctors appointment, why you can't see a dentist, its not too difficult to figure out.
If your profession allows, Portugal is a far better country than the UK. Having said that, many problems that are occurring in the UK start to happen in Portugal as well...
It's not just the UK, it's most of the Europe too. Look what's happening in Germany for example. Once a very stable and wealthy country. Now on its knees on nearly every aspect of life. "You'll have nothing and you'll be happy" - WEF is having its way.
Germany on its knees... only your pipedream neyrotically. Kive in NL , know Germany... doing fine and indeed mulling structures as everywhere. If uk were Germany the internet would not be big enuvv to spout your bragging ..as usual.
More like capitalism is having its way. There was always going be an end stage of capitalism where wealth accumulation and other market failures had reduced most places into a situation very similar to the one we have now. But on the other side, socialism has its own pitfalls and mostly people do not understand how to find a balance and their choice in politicians reflects this stupidity.

@@EpicAelflaedNet migration in the grand scheme of things is not the biggest issue. This is the problem with the British, classic divide and rule, the media, the government and the elites have all conspired to put the nations attention on migration. It's the perfect smokescreen, people get soo charged up in migration they don't see anything else, all while the politicians, elitists, and capitalists suck the country dry. We have much bigger problems than migration, the economy is stagnating, as a country Britain is not producing or manufacturing much, the economy is skewed towards financial services, which do not actually benefit the country, apart from the few financial institutions, and bankers in on it. Taxes are going through the roof, yet services are continuing to deteriorate, wages are struggling to keep up with living costs, energy costs are the highest in Europe, housing costs are also out of control, the government is hell bent on pumping billions fighting wars abroad, childcare costs are through the roof, not enough children are being born, our population is ageing, national debt is climbing higher and higher etc etc. Even if 0 migrants came to the UK last year, the country would still be broken, and it would still be deteriorating. Don't fall for the government, and media tactics, of getting distracted by migration. Britain has much more pressing issues, that if resolved would have a much bigger impact on the quality of life of British citizens.

I walk into a dentist off the street whilst in Portugal, as my filling had fallen out. They asked me to pop in the next day at 2pm. On my return, they did an inspection, found that i needed two fillings, so did both there and then with top quality products and care. Cost was €120 and all done within 24h.
I was left without a dentist after lockdown and ended up flying to India last February and had 3 crowns 2 implants and other bits for £750 but I've paid in the system for 47 years from leaving school and shouldn't have to travel across the world for dental treatment that I can't afford in my own country.

@TravelGxng I grew up in Buckinghamshire and now live in Bournemouth... The country has changed so much since I was young. I am 43 now, so I'm not much older than you. There is no sense of community now, as well as feeling like a walking tax slave. Standards have slipped so much that it's becoming a shadow of its former self. Don't get me wrong, we've never been perfect but we seem to keep adding to our problems with people in power with educations costing 1000s that run it into the ground.
White British woman here born in 1968, life back then was massively different compared to what it is today. There is nothing like this at all, with no high levels of different immigration which is out of control. No illegal boat crossing daily putting them in hotels no translators in schools no different cultures in school i went to in the 70s and mid 80s .crimes were not as it is today . Certainly no knife crimes, no theft, what the levels there are today, no ulex. No council tax Certainly, there are no security tags on food . Living was tough. But I would go back to those times in a heartbeat . No mobile phones and no Internet. May be boring to some, but being born in those times was a different way of living.
Hi Angela...I have a few more miles on the clock than you...was born in Portsmouth in 1950 and brought up in Southsea...was so fortunate to live there at that time and for well over 50 years when life was sweet...yes most of us struggled for money most of the time but worked hard and managed OK and had a wonderful life...people respected each other and went out of their way to help others whenever they could. Happy memories.
My mum sadly passed away last March age 82. She used to say she was glad she had the life she did growing up after the war, how nice most people were and polite and courteous I seen it for myself the other day in Aldi when an elderly lady well into her 80s asked me to pick something off the shelf for her as she couldn't reach and when I handed her what she wanted she touched my arm and said to me I'm sorry for bothering you, I thought to myself you wouldn't get young people saying that, they would just snatch it, turn, walk away and not even say thanks. Back in her and my mum's generation they didn't have a lot but it was a more satisfied and happy society than today and mum said she would hate to be young now. It seems like the era of the late 1940s through into the 60s was a great and fun time going off her stories.

It's as bad in Ireland, even worse. We must revolt. They want us to keep our mouths shut, we are called racist if we speak up. Keep on defying them. Speak up.
It's a country in steep decline socially and economically, and what's worse is, the soul and character of the place is currently in intensive care too.
No one addressing, despite the UK population increasing, 15% of British people have left the UK over the last 25-30 years. When I say British, I mean white British. These people are leaving with their money, skills, trade and/or education and it seems like for every Brit that leaves, they are replaced by two migrants. I'm black and I do intend on leaving the UK myself (Caribbean or Africa), but we should all be concerned with the trajectory of British people are set on being a minority in the UK in 25 years. I am no Reform voter, but rather Farage complains about immigrants, he should be addressing how to encourage Brits to stay and rebuild the UK, because when Brits stop leaving they shall be no room in the INN. Likewise, I would be concerned if someone said Nigerians, Benins, Ghanians, South Africans..etc were set to be a minority in their own country too, it means something fundamentally wrong is going on.
Thats because Farage is paid by israeli lobbyist parties from abroad, like tommy robinson. Where they push the agenda that our country is going down hill because of immigration, and try to blame muslims more than anything (even though in recent years its been Christian and Catholic Polish, Romanian and kurds that have increased the migration). But they use this as a smokescreen for what is really happening. The government has invested billions into israel. Medical supplies, cyber companies, manufacturing, having our universities investing in sponsorships with israeli businesses, having poloce forces trained by idf that they secretly bring over via private air bases.. its ridiculous. We don't invest in our own countries. We could boost our economy, create jobs, stop homelessness.. but no. We invest in a rich state that has free healthcare, education and no homelessness within their jwish community. It makes you sick. And starmer isn't the first to do it. It was pushed under the Tory gov, and especially by sunak who's family has companies in israel and employs former idf commanders as their CEOs. People need to wake up and see the real problem.
Why aren't you a Reform voter............?? You say it like a kind of virtual signal: of course I wouldn't vote for that 'nasty Reform party'. So who will you vote for? Labour? The Tories? The LibDems? Reform are the only party with the balls to really start confronting these difficult questions.

Well, they are bringing war to Ukraine in the form of 5 billion a year there to cause more war and suffering, I suppose its only so long before the war comes back in the form of crumbling UK towns, cities and services that they do not spend money on because the money has gone on wars elsewhere and other foreign donations

The system isn’t broken, it’s working as intended. We have had tories rip this country apart for 14 years, selling and privatising our systems from our health care to our water to their mates whilst we been blaming the other guy who also suffered under the systems the tories ran down. They told us brexit was a good idea and leaving the EU would benefit us (it didn’t) They kicked out the likes of corbyn and used cronies like starmer to carry on dividing our nation and the people who voted for the Labour Party whilst further dividing the people who wanted change under labour. This is all by design just how they used Bidens presidency to strategically spend billions on wars and weaken the Democratic Party within. Wake up, these parities have become 2 heads of the same coin. They create the conditions and then feed the public with the solutions to the problems they created. They don’t serve the people, they serve the powers around them. We are just an after thought and a tool for them to get what they want. We need to wake up

Behind the protestations and propaganda flushed out of the mass media, the complicity of weak and incompetent Politicians that allow the proliferation of Government quangos that are un elected and self serving are just fundamentally weak adversaries. The Elephant in the room behind much of the relatively recent changes to British culture and Laws is coming from a vociferous, aggressive and threatening small minority. The vast majority of people if given the chance to speak would be a total rejection of all the woke, multi cultural bullshit that we are constantly deluged in. The fear from the Government following the protests after the Southpost murders was telling. They felt their mask slipping and it scared them to the core. The thought of the people not being scared of their government and not following their petty rules like dull sheep struck terror into them. The fight has not yet begun because the British are slow to anger but it will come and when it does all these pathetic illogical and frankly Foreign ideas will be swept into the gutter and out into the Sea. Sadly taxation has continued to increase (it doesn't matter whether its Lab or Con - they are just as bad). The UK's finances are not good and have been poorly managed by Government over the last 20 years. Utilities are expensive and electricity prices in UK are some of the most expensive in the world. Food up, taxes up, insurance up, utilities up, investment down, public services worse, roads worse, food banks needed to feed people, pay stagnation, inflation up, political cronyism and sleaze, weak sentencing of criminals and early release @40% of term..the list goes on... Not that the grass is greener in most other countries.
the finances are due to money printing. Just to help u get your head around it. Bank of Eng printed trillions of pounds, which during covid only went to the wealthy. UK is now 3 trill in debt. Dont let any politician fool u talking about 22 bill black holes. Its smoke and mirrors garbage.

All the best, you will not regret leaving. I left the UK several years for Eastern Europe, life here is a vast improvement. It's more civilised here, the UK was similar when i was a child in the 70's. Taxes are much lower, for example my property tax on a very large house is around £200/year. Thanks to Brexit many of us cannot move to the EU full time as after 90 days one has to leave the EU and go somewhere else. A good plan in my view is to buy a small parcel of land with a borehole and some fruit trees for around 10,000 euros somewhere in Central Portugal and for 90 days live on your own land in a tent or yurt. After 90 days head to somewhere like Malaysia or Thailand for 90 days. Rent and local food is cheap there. After 90 days in Asia return to your land in Portugal for another 90 days. All legal and above board. Rinse and then repeat.

I feel the same way, britain is becoming more like a 3rd world nation every day! Just look at the state of our roads for goodness sake, they're more like cart tracks! The condition of a countries roads are often a good indicator to how well they're doing!😮🤔😳
@TravelGxng We have to make sure our vehicles are fit for the road with an annual MOT inspection and pay substantial costs, yet the roads are allowed to be in such poor condition with very little regular maintenance! Those potholes soon become dangerous craters that cover almost the entire width of the road and are often impossible to avoid causing damage to our vehicles wheels, tyres and suspension! They talk about 'lack of funds' but they get paid plenty to maintain the roads through our vehicle tax and council tax. How can this be right or something we should have to put up with. A recent drive across France showed me how our roads should be, absolutely smooth and a pleasure to drive on.

The Government??? Who’s to blame???? Is it the government problem if young humans decide to have kids at 17 , rather than finding a job to buy a livelihood for themselves, and then growing a family, if that’s makes sense… As simple as this, no rocket science. If this is followed there’ll be less to little crime, and more prosperity and people will be more happier. With a job at hand, young people will be able to buy a small house and then think of having a family rather than having a child at 17, and then the stress of affording to feed mouths and hence the crime…
I left UK in 2018. The things you are saying are expensive are relatively much cheaper than other places (other than petrol), and trust me, Brits are lucky to have any free health care. try being in the USA.....
It’s not free healthcare!!! We pay for the NHS from our taxes, and the government spends more on the NHS every year…it’s a money pit and out of control with its huge bureaucracy
The trouble is you need to pay for private healthcare these days unless you want to be waiting for a potentially life saving operation. Employers often provide this as a perk though if you've got a decent job. And NHS dental treatment - forget it - it is getting much harder to get NHS treatment and even that is not free. A lot of surgeries that have NHS patients are simply no longer treating them - you have to pay a private subscription to get treatment. Still, even with private dental and health care UK is MUCH cheaper than USA, but then USA is an outlier when it comes to healthcare costs. I have experience of private healthcare and dental care in both Thailand and the Philippines and it is both cheaper and much higher quality than the UK...

Cost of living goes up because of migration and government spending. I don't blame you wanting to leave. Government want us to live alone in your own house or rent, no travel own nothing and you'll be happy and complacent... yeah right...... as if I can live like that.
I think at 40 years old its quite difficult to permanently move somewhere else like Spain. Sure having your wife speak is a head start but realistically without a proficient reading and writing capability you'll have lost your independence. Reading a rental contract, paying a bill or buying car insurance will require depending on your wife for many years. Getting a job DJing in Spain would be very difficult unless it was in a tourist area. Also they might discriminate you based on your age. I would consider your life goals first, do I want to have children, own a house and/or retire early. These life goals will weigh up whether relocating will allow you to reach closer to these goals or take you further away. You cited a lot of problems in the UK. But most of them are finance related. I think that most British people have been told they're middle class and should be able to afford middle class luxuries. Truthfully there are a lot more working class people who are expecting luxuries beyond their means. As soon as this attitude is adjusted the less people will feel like leaving. Sadly the grass is not greener.
Thanks for watching mate. Yes the issues are money related but it's not just that. Even to live a happy simple life (I don't do Beemers or Gucci), it's pretty difficult unless you have a top job or a profitable business
Don’t get me wrong, if you want to make Spain work there is nothing stopping you & there are plenty of people that do make it work. I’d just say be sure you’d want to commit to a new culture and all the things that go with it because it might easier re-training & getting a better paid job here at home.
The UK is terrible now. There are a lot more people in debt. Yoing people can't buy houses. Less people are giving birth because they can't afford families. I would love to leave if I can get a remote job where I can work anywhere.
I'm of Indian heritage as well. I think the Govt policies are responsible and I don't see things changing in the near future. Everything is getting expensive. These people are community front vast continents like Africa.....yet can't find anywhere else on that continent . What a joke
I feel your pain. I moved to Thailand back in 2016 with my Thai wife. She came to the UK but we both decided to move to Thailand. The cost of living is so much cheaper. The weather is amazing all year round. Shorts, T-shirts, and flip books all year round. Went back to the UK this year to see family friend. Don't miss the UK one bit.
How s your living situation ? Can you buy a house as a foreigner? What did you do for long term visa? And do you work there or? Sorry if I ask too much questions
Yes, the reason is third world migration into all of those places wrecking the peace and tranquility and high trust societies we used to have. If you hadn’t noticed, all those places on the list there were built by descendants from the UK and so we had similar low crime high trust societies before people from other parts of the world showed up on mass and fucked it all up. They have completely different values to us. Culture comes out of a people, and the culture British people created was peaceful, polite and reserved; very different from Asia, India or Africa. Look how filthy those places are - like rubbish dumps. The UK used to be clean and tidy - people took pride in it. Since mass migration people no longer feel their natural culture or heritage and we’re called racist if we mention anything about it.
I came to this country in 2006 from South Africa. To me this was literally the land of milk and honey compared to where I'm from. The changes I've seen in the last 18 years is astounding. My wife and were laughing about how we used to walk 30 minutes to the local supermarket, then catch a bus home with our 6 - 8 bags of weekly groceries for £40 to £60 max. Now I pop out for a "convenience shop" at the local supermarket for 1 bag at £30. That's just tip of the iceberg stuff. Rent, council tax, bills... used to be like swatting away flies on a £300 a week wage at the time. Now all these eat most of my earnings with let left as disposable income. BUT! I love this country as much as I do SA and I'll stick it out and hope things get better.
Bro you can, there's plenty of British people living good lives around the world. I admit for the British born who have family roots in other parts of the world it's easier, but you can still get out. My best advice would be to invest in property in a country abroad, build up your savings, if you have a house here, put it up for rent and then jet off to somewhere much nicer. The GBP still carries a fair amount of strength and it can do a lot for you in Asia, South America or Africa. While you are here, you can easily buy abroad and get things set up. Depending on your disposable income, it may take 3-15 years, but very possible. Don't let the system trap you.
Well Done. Really sad to see this part of Sussex look so dreary. I live in eastbourne most of the hotels on the seafornt have been used up to house young men. Many shops have closed down and replaced with coffe shops. Lotso of abandened buildings are being used by the homeless to take shelter.
I left Britain in 2008. Moved to Queensland and no regrets. Britain looks like it has been pounded big time. We have had cost of living rises here but only on mainly food and housing. So many moving to Australia now and cost of housing and rent is crazy. Food here is similar to UK prices from what i can see. But we was always more expensive and uk has caught up. But we have petrol around 80p a lite. My power bills, i have solar, on a bad month about £75 and in August my cheapest was £30. Car insurance is wayyyy cheaper than uk. My son had a Toyota GT86 sports car as his first car was about £75 a month insurance. We have rego here which includes thrid party so every car on the road has some basic insurance. 9 months of the year weather is perfect. Shortest day here is gets light just after 6am and last light 5.30pm. Longest day 4 30am dark by 7pm. Sun rises fast sets fast. So daytime is bright you need sunnies. Wages here can be as much as double uk. My wife is senior office admin. Shes on £45k. I am a maintenance fitter last few years £75k. I have turned down overtime lately so probably be around £60k. Indian restaurants here looking at around £10 with rice. We do have authentic indian recipe curries here which i never came across in uk. Also uk recipes. I have tried the uk balti here and is exactly like in Brum. Also the indian boona balti recipe. I have them hot. Get a good sweat on and a ring of fire 😂. Anyone checking Australia out do your homework. I have travelled around and every area has different climates, cost of living and what lifestyle they offer. You have Tasmania which is size of uk just as lush with around 500k population. Queensland where i live population around 5.5 million sub tropical to tropical climate. Maybe several times the size of uk. So we have space here and lots of it. I converted prices aussie dollar is roughly double. About $1 is 51p. Standard of living is higher here. World class parks, walking trails, free public electric BBQs, parks for dogs, litter free pretty much Australia is so tidy.
@aries6776 Research is the main thing. Everyone has their own personal desires and needs. There are places I could have moved to in Australia. Hated it moved back to UK. Not realising Australia is a big place and vastly different place to place.
I'm a Brit and also live in QLD and I agree with you, it's a beautiful place to live. Cost of living is a bit cheaper than the UK (petrol, elec, gas, insurance) and wages are better. The only problem (like most of the Western world) is houses are now unaffordable for most young people and rents are sky high. I love living in a sub tropical climate and wear shorts every day of the year. A sunny climate makes me happy.
Ypu will need spanish too.. Thats 5 years in total immersion to become near native, not holiday pidgin. Spain is high unemployment too, and low pay. you will be going head to head against native speakers for any half good job, and skivvying until you are fluent.
Local salaries are terrible as well. One benefit of being a paper Brit is, if you can, earn a UK salary on line then live in Spain - but only six months a year. Then spend three in SE Asia and three in LatAm. I mean you are Indian - must be cheap there. A forced Brexit benefit means it is impossible to become tax resident in Spain on the normal visas.
I saw the recent documentary about Spain and illegal working, I had no idea about the Spanish agricultural sector and how they are driven to employing illegal immigrants in order to get their crop picked, and how both the Spanish government and the EU turn a blind eye to illegal migrants working in their tens of thousands in agriculture not only in Spain but if Portugal and Greece too......simply because young indigenous people simply refuse to work in agriculture anymore as it's hard work, and because Spanish fruit and vegetable production is crucial to EU as a whole.
Fair enough, economic migrants will search for better pastures. Perhaps only people who truly love and belong to Britain will stay. Firstly they have to stop the benefits.

The NHS is a massive millstone around our necks. The amount we spend on it is truly staggering and obscene. So many problems.... we do expect too much from it for a start and the whole thing is a bloated monstrosity that represents the very worst aspects of public spending and embodies the waste that always results from spending other people's money. And of course it's a massive honey pot that draws the entire world here to take advantage of it when they simply have no right to.
This is the millstone around our necks: 1. The massive amount of private contracting within the 'NHS'. 2. The refusal to build a strong base in the medical profession by providing university placements for British-born citizens, or opportunities for people who are intelligent, kind-hearted and suited to the medical profession but missed out on their GSCEs or are crippled by a 10-year old police caution, for example (better give the positions to unfeeling, credentialist psychopaths instead). 3. The taboo of showing any personal pride if you're British which results in a terrible standard of basic health and hygiene for people born here, even disregarding lack of access to the medical system. 4. Arrogant doctors who will cripple your life because an impactful health issue is deemed "cosmetic' or 'not worth' doing anything about (as a foreign doctor's fragile ego is worth far more than the life of an unworthy British subject). 5. Insane costs for essential medication, propped up by insane regulations and IP laws (and richly indulged on behalf of lobbyists), when community-run drug manufactoriums up and down the country could produce thousand-pound drugs for pennies.

Likewise, I would be concerned if someone said Nigerians, Benins, Ghanians, South Africans..etc were set to be a minority in their own country too, it means something fundamentally wrong is going on.
Good Man David. Everyone deserves a homeland. White, Brown and Black.
Spot on. Can't run a country once all the people left are those claiming benefits off each other.
Its what the globalist want...
Why aren't you a Reform voter............?? You say it like a kind of virtual signal: of course I wouldn't vote for that 'nasty Reform party'. So who will you vote for? Labour? The Tories? The LibDems? Reform are the only party with the balls to really start confronting these difficult questions.

They kicked out the likes of corbyn and used cronies like starmer to carry on dividing our nation and the people who voted for the Labour Party whilst further dividing the people who wanted change under labour.

Sadly taxation has continued to increase (it doesn't matter whether its Lab or Con - they are just as bad). The UK's finances are not good and have been poorly managed by Government over the last 20 years. Utilities are expensive and electricity prices in UK are some of the most expensive in the world.

Left the UK in 2010, each time I go back it's shocking how much worse it's become. Now living in Japan, which feels so much safer.
I left UK in 2018. The things you are saying are expensive are relatively much cheaper than other places (other than petrol), and trust me, Brits are lucky to have any free health care. try being in the USA.....
I definitely wouldn't step foot in the USA. Where abouts are you?
It’s not free healthcare!!!
We pay for the NHS from our taxes, and the government spends more on the NHS every year…it’s a money pit and out of control with its huge bureaucracy
It's not free , tax money goes into the NHS which comes from tax payers and you still have to pay for your medication. (Unless you are on the dole)
The USA is a horrible place. I would not go there.

Facts!
Don’t get me wrong, if you want to make Spain work there is nothing stopping you & there are plenty of people that do make it work. I’d just say be sure you’d want to commit to a new culture and all the things that go with it because it might easier re-training & getting a better paid job here at home.

I agree everyone trying run somewhere

Believing in fairy tales won't help your situation one bit.
Would be gooooone asap .
Things will get better? Hah nope, in 50 or so years this place will be unrecognisable, you will turn bold blue holding your breath indefinitely 😂
Yeah mate, I can’t leave, I’m white British.

Great post. I love these informative ones as I learn a lot.
You won't be coming to Spain unless you are loaded.

This is the millstone around our necks:
Does it still sit?....
