For me the problem is the microsd card itself is locked in that mode. The switch does not work and neither does just using the microsd card itself without the adapter. I have ordered a new card, but still would be nice to see if I can salvage this one for my second 3ds
If the card adapter has a notch but no slider switch it will only register as "write protected". A command prompt sequence will not cure that physical error because the computer mechanically reads an empty notch as "read only". However, you can put a piece of tape over the notch to cure the problem.
My dumbass also fell for that one. Didn't even know it was for that use. I thought it was to keep the micro sd in place (I use a sd Adapter for my micro sd)
This SD card came from a old SONY cheap handycam. I have tried your method many times. I get this when I type Clean. "DiskPart has encountered an error: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. See the System Event Log for more information."
Very helpful! I hit my phone against a metal pole while handing it to someone, and the card would not save photos or videos properly afterward, this has made it so i can at least delete stuff after backing them up.. i will check if it works properly in the phone now.
Amazing video. I was just meaning to send the micro sd card to sun disk and get another new but i would have take 1 mounths. after watching this video and using the prompt command the card was unlocked thank you so much
I got the "DiskPart has encountered an error message". This is what worked for me: Flip the switch on the SD adapter/card to the LOCK position, then go back to the UNLOCK position, and try again. For some reason, it was stuck on "LOCK" when it was already unlocked. And this was brand new from the supplier.
What are the typical causes and solutions for "Data error (cyclic redundancy check)"? This error appears whenever I attempt to "clean" the SD card or if I try to create a primary partition.
I had to attach a Virtual disk file as part of the original partition. Also located the disk location through the properties section in my computer. Came up as Location 0. I’m able to pull files directly off the laptop folder onto the SDHC Card now. Lovely Jumbly

DiskPart has encountered an error: The request failed due to a fatal device hardware error. See the System Event Log for more information. What I have to do now?
For those who get to like the format fs=fat32 quick or just before that and get something about it still be write protected. Do window+run and type in regedit. This should open up registries and from there you look for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies. If you don't have a StorageDevicePolicies create a new folder by right clicking and click new->key. After that right click in the white section of the area and make a new->DWORD and call it "write Protection". Inside that set the value to 0. Save it and restart your pc and when its booted back up reformat you sd or whatever that was write protected. This worked for me.
I have been successful in deleting the files. It works for SD or Micro SD. Just use a USB adapter or card reader that supports multiple types of cards instead of the Card Adapter that looks like a card. Such adapters don't get blocked by the computer. Then delete files entering into the drive directory, not from outside of the drive directory. It worked guys
I tried the Command Prompt but when I hit "clean" it gave me the following error: "DiskPart has encountered an error: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. Quick tip: for all of you that, upon typing "active" got the message "The selected disk is not a fixed MBR disk. The ACTIVE command can only be used on fixed MBR disks." do the following: 1 - Download a prtition manager (EaseUS, for example); 2 - Wipe all data again; 3 - Create a new partition 4 - Done :)
Or you can right click on This PC (Win7) and click manage. Click on disk management. Find the disk number and right click it and format. For Win 10 just right click the windows button and click disk management.

attributes disk clear readonly is sweet spot.
I'm stuck in DISKPART part. Everything was same like in the video, until it turn out like this :
DISKPART> select disk 3
Disk 3 is now the selected disk.
DISKPART> attributes disk clear readonly
Disk attributes cleared successfully.
DISKPART> clean
DiskPart succeeded in cleaning the disk.
DISKPART> create partition primary
Virtual Disk Service error:
The operation is not supported on a non-empty removable disk.

Make sure you run a cmd.exe like administrator, Start -> Run -> cmd -> Ctrl+Shift+Enter
*FIXED* DiskPart encountered error... even though SD card is unlocked. Even though my SD card is marked as unlocked, I put a small sliver of scotch tape over the unlock slider in the unlocked position and this fixed my issues.
