If "attributes disk" command in cmd DiskPart is showing Current read-only state as "Yes" but Read-only as "No" then it's over, you can't remove write protection. Buy a new card.

I had quite a few thumb drives and SD cards that "failed" over time. I just replaced them. Now I have learned to clean them using the diskpart command, also now have added this approach to removing read only. I have saved not all but most drives that were otherwise seemingly finished. I tried resetting my 3ds with an SD card that wouldn't format. I had two. After long processes like this and no luck I was surprised when it formatted when resetting the device with the card in it. Try it on another device. You might have some luck

Use rufus and burn a random iso to the sd card that will force to wipe the drive and bypass it then you should be able to format it after and will be like new
All my life I fought when you put it down it literally just wouldn’t fit into the SD card reader so when I looked at it when I saw that and it fit I didn’t think that was a problem then when I switched it, it worked just fine. thank you very much for the advice.

Option 2 command prompt to add "attributes" to "clear disk readonly, solved the problem, and although i knew locking/unlocking slider, people also have to know, sometimes the slider seems to work, but inside may be faulty due to wear and tare, or damaged without showing on outside, try another SD Adapter. Most appreciated, Now 3 Cards are now working again thanks to your clean teachings, You the Guy..

Hey I know this is an old post but this isn't working for me, I have 5 Micro SD cards, the second I plug them it it asks me to format, then says it can't be formatted - Any help please?
Sorry to hear that this video will not work for every single person. Everyone has a different situation. I'm not sure what brand you bought but maybe go to the brands website and see if they have a tool for just formatting. Their SD cards only double check their support page And see what others are saying but I will tell you most SD cards should be able to be formatted without much trouble

Hey bud, followed every single step, slowly and correctly, still cannot format. This MicroSD card I have is really starting to do my head in, In admin CMD, I typed all commands you said to, selected the correct USB disk number, every command went through and said successful but I still cannot format this MicroSD card (still says write protected, its like nothing I do with all of these methods being successful or so it tells me and yet I still CANNOT format), driving me nuts
So if these methods don't work, what should one do? I have a good quality card that was not used for long but it's full of video files and I can't delete them, format the disk. What is keeping this from formatting. Should we try from another computer or Operating System such as Linux?
