Re: Chasing Amy | Maybe if a Ringer staffer is reading this they can pass it on - As a queer gal, I really want Sean to know that Chasing Amy has actually aged quite well as a set piece on male insecurity (which was always its intention) - something more relevant than ever in an incel age. It also speaks to how limiting queer identity was in the late 90’s and early 00’s / you were either gay or straight and bisexuality was a “phase”, the pressure to “choose” that the main character faces is something many of us felt. This is driven home by the fact that Smith had his lesbian BFF proofread the script for accuracy and not even she suggested Alissa could be bisexual. And that ending - where he basically tries to present her as an experience to his best friend and she slaps him and says “I love you… but I’m not you’re f*cking whore”. That was one of the only times I’ve seen a woman say no on screen in that way - it was incredibly empowering at a time when girls were expected to be like the ones in American Pie - smiling through sleaze and being up for anything. It’s a great film and a meaningful one to many queer people like myself, and one if Kevin Smiths best. (❤️ from a massive Kevin Smith and BP fan)
I love the 30 Rock shout out. It remains an absolute pillar of warm-blanket comfort TV. Side note: I'd watch an entire podcast series of Sean going on a journey into Plex land and digitizing his entire collection and learning about the joys of Plex. It'd be awesome and you could load up on tech sponsors for that.
If he did not encode and did it one-to-one backup, he's going to need a serious server setup at 25-90GB per movie. Sounds like a fun (albiet $$) project.
YAAAAASSSSSSS! so much love for #Spirit if this doesn't make you cry and swoon and rally, there is something wrong with you! I'm GenX and this movie is so important in my Matt Damon movie list! also the soundtrack (Bryan Adams) is amazing.
wow, GLORY DAZE, I saw that on VHS at my friend's mom's internetless cabin in high school. I never thought about it again until the moment it was brought up here, but wow I do remember some insane haircuts. also I believe the whole plot leads up to Ben Affleck having to submit his senior thesis for an art major, which ends up being a chrome sculpture of a human hand holding a DVD. you guys would like it maybe.
Here's my 10: Good Will Hunting Rounders The Talented Mr. Ripley The Departed School Ties Ocean's Eleven The Martian The Informant! The Bourne Identity Dogma
This might be the first time a Damon project hasn’t been unanimously praised on Ringer but of course they chose to talk about not absolutely 💯 loving a movie of his in a vid that spends most of the time praising Damon ( ya know, cuz Bill wants to keep getting invited to the parties 😂 )
i think every year there should be a "Best Mediocre Film" at the Oscars. The film that you mildly enjoyed, was competently made, and acted suitably but with no star-making performances. To me next year's award would go to The Instigators.
How can you mention the Ocean Movies and not mention “the nose plays”? The highlight of those movies. Bourne Identity is the best Bourne movie. The most memorable pieces of that franchise are from that movie, Franka Potente was great and Tony Gilroy was still writing. The others with Greengrass introduced that BS Shaky Cam stuff that doesn’t work. Also the movie shouldn’t go in but the speech in We Bought a Zoo, where he says to his son “I thought you had friends” should go in.
@@howdareyou41 you couldn’t have said it better. When I thought something was going to happen. It totally changed. Example the money truck scene my through process they were going to rob the truck. Quick plot twist they run away like someone would really do in real life. That scene is so funny also haha.
Ford v Ferrari doesn’t work without Damon. Damon and Bale played off each other perfectly, and without both of them, that movie doesn’t work. So that is a big whiff for me.
Really enjoy the pod. However, when describing the plot of The Adjustment Bureau, it would be good if you spent 1 minute on research so you can get things correct. You were 99% incorrect in your "description."
These two talking/criticizing movies is like Skip Bayless and Stephen A Smith talking/criticizing basketball. Never done shit, but love to talk shit about and making dirty money on it.
Brian Raftery wrote one of the stupidest books of all time...right alongside Easy Riders & Raging Bulls; it is that for a new generation 😂😂 Marvel Movies have dialogue for twelve years olds but American Pie is a classic 1999 film...this is literally how Raftery "thinks"...and he gets to write a book about it 😂😂😂😂...but, hey, Sean/Amanda apparently thought Barbie was a good movie...don't think they were putting much thought into it, but Brian on the other hand...👎👎👎
The Grand Budapest Hotel Rewatchables + Matt Damon hall of fame. Ringer Movies is on fire today.
Big facts

SCOTTY DOESN’T KNOW!! SCOTTY DOESN’T KNOW!! SCOTTY DOESN’T KNOW!!
Bobby giving Spirit the recognition it deserves 👏
Amanda and CR's vandetta against animation is truly puzzling to me.
Glenn Powell may not be super jacked but calling him a normal guy is kind of insane. dude is 6 feet tall, handsome and has muscles.
Thank you for the Spirit advocacy Bobby
Bobby is 100% correct about Spirit being a classic
Also--The Brothers Grimm erasure will not stand
I was 13/14 in 2008 so I felt Didi fr.
1:27:50: No joke, I think I got introduced to Matt Damon through his Arthur episode
One of my most fave podcasts. Love the show 😊✨💜
Glen Powell???? dude is JACKED too
Shout out to Bobby for highlighting Spirit, that movie is absolutely a millennial classic!!

Best podcast ever.
No mention of the Matt Damon of Team America? Shameful
1:00:50 is so funny, he tried to save you guys!!
Holy shit - based on his voice, Brian Rafferry is so much younger than I thought
His Interstellar role is not a cameo.
Excuse the ignorance but is their a place to find the hall of fame lists?
Sean shares them on twitter.
Justice for Spirit! It is a banger, Bobby!!! Love the Bryan Adams soundtrack!
Excellent show guys although Ford vs Ferrari would have been one of the first on the list for me

Hasn't aged a day? Something Alec is familiar w on the Rust movie 1:11:52
Love Amanda ❤ she makes these podcasts very enjoyable
The Instigators was such a comic relief. Being in Boston with these characters made me enjoy every minute of this movie.
Yeah I loved it. Don't get the bad reviews. Casey and Matt have incredible chemistry. Felt fresh even though heists are played out.

Instigators is the kind of movie that in seven years we will say things like “we didn’t know how good we had it”
True Grit is a neoclassic
Which could mean nothing
After watching The Instigators Matt Damon got a HoF hair transplant, I'll tell you that much
We Bought a Zoo is a masterpiece. Real Crowe heads only.
Talented Mr. Ripley Damon so good it's super uncomfortable
Amanda HATES INDIGNEOUS STORYTELLING! JUSTICE 4 ADAM BEACH!!! Spirit is a BANGER, BOBBY!!!!
1:01:04
...Denzel!?
Sean will shit on Deadpool and Wolverine but enjoy genuine trash like The Instigators.
“The Adjustment Bureau” rules! This aggression will not stand!
Norris 2024!
Amanda Dobbins still on the podcast? One star
Finally someone says it
Ford v Ferrari doesn’t work without Damon. Damon and Bale played off each other perfectly, and without both of them, that movie doesn’t work. So that is a big whiff for me.
This guy says the word, 'like', a lot.
Really enjoy the pod. However, when describing the plot of The Adjustment Bureau, it would be good if you spent 1 minute on research so you can get things correct. You were 99% incorrect in your "description."
Eurotrip .... what a waste ....
CUCKOO
Ugh... Ocean's 12? Nausea....
Looks like they didn't see Borderlands either
The interview rocks you guys are lame
First one to view 💪
I still haven't seen we bought a zoo
45:41 Queen Amanda
Amanda Dobbins needs to be fired and do somethkng she is good at. Talking, thinking, and making jokes about celebrities is not her talent
there's the door. don't let it hit you on the way out.
These two talking/criticizing movies is like Skip Bayless and Stephen A Smith talking/criticizing basketball. Never done shit, but love to talk shit about and making dirty money on it.
As expected super cringe 😬 from the opening minutes. Does this really surprise anyone... 😂
what are you on about?
