I thought this movie was pretty well done, personally. Like you said to begin with, it was a fairly faithful adaptation of the characters from the show, which is as much as you can really hope for with film adaptations of cartoons. In the end, it is at least the least-bad cartoon-to-live-action adaptation I've ever seen.

As many bad things this movie may have, the practical effects and sets are pretty well done for what they're based off of, and some of the jokes are pretty clever, like the Universal joke using Pangaea in the background.

I liked this movie when I first watched it as a kid but for the very reason NC highlighted: the appliances. Even then I didn't find the plot all that entertaining. This might have fared better if they just showed an extremely mundane day for the Flinstones but packed the whole day full of ancient technology.
Apparently, the couples in the flintstones were modelled on those in the honeymooners. Actually if watch episodes from both shows, you'll see the similarities. In this film, Fred even sounds like Ralph kramden when he gets mad.

Even as a 12 year old back then, I was kinda weirded out that they built all this cool sets and made this strange, unexciting story. And the characters were so mean to each other, the humor is also mean … And while it KINDA adapts these more adult themes and cynical humor and character traits, by that time they should’ve known better and make it A BIT more for kids imo

the casting in this was mostly amazing, and to this day I love all the sets and props and would legit go to a themepark built like this. also a lot of it wasn't really meant to be funny per say, I don't think, like you weren't intended to laugh at the reenactments from the cartoon, more just get a hit of nostalgia
People are really undermining the movie. This was one of the best adaptation at the time. As a kid you would freakin love how the movie was produced. As a kid i always love adult stories written for kids.
Doug: I hate The Flintstones because of the bad animation and redundant storylines. Also Doug: I love Scooby Doo even though the animation is not that good, and it's basically the same story every week except that they change the monster.
People complain about this movie saying the plot isn't funny and it looks like it's not really aimed at kids. Well fun fact the original cartoon wasn't created to be aimed at children either. It was aimed at adults as a cartoon inspired on the honeymooners. Sure the later spin-offs were aimed for children but not the original seasons of Flintstones. Personally I don't see the hate on the movie, I actually love it and still watch it, aside from Rosie, the entire cast was perfect.
I completely disagree with all of this 100%. As somebody that had the VHS of this when I was little and basically wore it out from watching this too much. This was a classic. I recently caved, and bought the digital copy of this and just watched it again. Despite its problems, every time I watch this movie I get nothing but a constant wave of 90s nostalgia! It takes me back to a time when everything was way more simpler, and I love it!

I took my kids to see this movie when it came out, they were 5 & 7. They loved it beyond words. There is your target demo & I won't lie, I weirdly found it charming.

And while it KINDA adapts these more adult themes and cynical humor and character traits, by that time they should’ve known better and make it A BIT more for kids imo

People complain about this movie saying the plot isn't funny and it looks like it's not really aimed at kids. Well fun fact the original cartoon wasn't created to be aimed at children either. It was aimed at adults as a cartoon inspired on the honeymooners. Sure the later spin-offs were aimed for children but not the original seasons of Flintstones. Personally I don't see the hate on the movie, I actually love it and still watch it, aside from Rosie, the entire cast was perfect.
I completely disagree with all of this 100%. As somebody that had the VHS of this when I was little and basically wore it out from watching this too much. This was a classic. I recently caved, and bought the digital copy of this and just watched it again. Despite its problems, every time I watch this movie I get nothing but a constant wave of 90s nostalgia! It takes me back to a time when everything was way more simpler, and I love it!
