The 4 on top of the helmet is decorated with the brittish flag for his dad's side of the family and the flemish lion for his mother's side of the family. He's the only of the 3 half-belgians on the grid to actually have a belgian reference on his helmet.
Max Verstappen used to wear an Arai helmet too, but there was a "problem" with certification, if i remember correctly, that is why he went to Schuberth. His father Jos also wore an Arai throughout his career, and Max' design pays tribute to that...

From my limited research it doesn't seem that Arai is owned by (or a part of) Bell however you may know something I don't. They've clearly noted Arai absolutely dominates the karting world and instead of chasing kart drivers, they've gone with a top-down approach to grab market share via F1 driver sponsorship. They've also started using the same shell shape in kart helmets (like Arai does) to further enforce that direct link. Very clever marketing.

Kym, maybe next time you could show how the drivers are fitted for their helmets. There was a time when ARAI was seen in most cockpits but I could never get one to fit comfortably across my forehead, no matter what we and they tried with linings, pads etc. They gave me a headache very quickly which isn't ideal. For all those who know me and think I'm big headed- it's actually true, and we have the measurements to prove it! 🤣

I have heard Arai does not pay F1 drivers to wear their helmets, only free helmets for them, and it’s why they kept losing drivers to Bell and others. Is there any truth to this?

@@ryanherbert217 they're designed for each driver. It's not just the helmet you're paying for, but for them to make helmet to your specifications and dimensions. Your $200 helmet can fit say 25% of the population, the $5000 helmet won't fit anyone but that driver.
