    I know this video is old, but when I considering learning something new I watch many videos. I'm a poor starving disabled musician and have had to teach myself quite a bit about electronics over the years, to fix my vintage music gear, my car stereo and home AV equipment. You're right most people doing these auto DIY videos are teaching people how to mess their stuff up. I'm not quite as picky as you lol, but I really appreciate a picky guy who has an eye for detail.. We need many more of you out here. :) So working on my own electronics I obviously know how to correctly solder and even safely do it in my car. However I kinda worry a lil about you not disconnecting the battery as I've always been told to do, so when I attempt this myself the battery will be disconnected. But hey you're the pro, so I'm sure you know just what you're doing. Okay to my long winded question (and I'm sorry I wrote a book before getting to my point) It's regarding my beloved 1995 Honda del Sol. I know she's old, but she's so faithful and gets almost mpg with even a trunk that I can hide 50 dead bodies, but only seats two lol.But for real, I don't have power door locks, just power windows, a 5 speed stick and the obd1 system. I'm mainly wanting to protect my car from theft and becoming some racers kid's parts doner car, and then there's my cherished vintage Alpine stereo. So what would you recommend I do to secure a car like mine on a budget, but not being a total cheapskate? I've been told by every guy I know that honda door locks are the easiest to pick, so I love the motion sensor thingy and disabling things like starters and fuel pumps. I think the more things I can disable the less likely they will figure it out. And I also think having blinking LEDs in the car help scare away many... lets say less talented thieves!? I also very much like what you said about putting the alarm module up high in the dash, that sounds very wise.
    Thank you for reading my long winded mess and I look forward to watching the rest of this great video you posted for us :)
    Oh and do you still sell car alarms?? Thank you very much :)

I have done electronicstilnd alarms for years but as complete video like this is awsome... Ur my new best friend. I have low budget (Ssi) but still have a heart for electronics and when I can I enjoy stuff like this. Also must note when extending wires use the correct guage or larger :)

    No way, that model was out 6 years before this model, They have similarities, But definetly not the same as far as color and locations are concerned. You should always adapt specifically to the exact model you're working with. Like the carpenter says... measure twice, cut once.

    Great video. I have an 08 sequoia im trying to install my (cardot all in one remote start kit) only thing i wish you did differently is shown up close the harness locations to make this a bit easier for DIYer. Thats the only thing slowing me down right now figuring out what harnesses to tap into.

    Typically the orange is a starter kill or ground when running connection, so if youre using a relay for starter kill or anti grind, you'd use it for those functions. as for channel 2 and 3, those are optional - outputs to do things like trunk pop or optional window modules. Most times they're not used.

    Strip it back 1st, then poke the hole. And the tool I use is a craftsman cotter pin extractor, Known in the electronics field as a hook tool.

    Regarding the accessory, You nly need to power the one in the car that cuts on the heat and A/C
    As for the extra ignition, Just cap it off (or if you wanna - you can use that to power the 2nd accessory)

    As a fellow installer, the only thing that I would suggest is to not ground your siren in the engine bay. I run the siren ground with the siren power and ground it at the driver kickpanel along with the other grounds that were needed for the install.

  • @alanbacklund2813
    @alanbacklund2813 11 лет назад

    Also a suggestion to anyone wanting to attempt an install themselves. Be sure that you understand your vehicle perfectly before you begin. Nearly 100% of being able to install an alarm and remote start is making the correct decisions that relate to YOUR vehicle. Anyone can connect a red wire to a green wire, that doesn't mean you're an installer. Knowing to connect the red wire to a green wire makes all the difference. Ask for help if things don't make sense!

  • @joshlemons3662
    @joshlemons3662 9 лет назад +3

    de-soldering isn't hard. I have to do it all the time. You can simply reflow the solder and pull the connectors apart, or use de-soldering wick, or a de-soldering iron. And if you have a temperature controlled soldering iron with a properly tinned tip, making a solder connection takes less than a second. I am qualified to speak on this because I've personally designed and hand soldered PCB's with nearly 100 SMD components (surface mount, not Steve Meade). "if you ever take the system out and put it in your next car" you're gonna have trouble with all the wires you snipped off because you didn't need them for this install. Do you ever take out ignition or starter relays? You cranked the starter 9 times, just in this video, to figure out what the wires go to. That can't be good for the engine. I sure wouldn't want someone doing that to my vehicle. Other than that, great video, much better work than any shop I've seen. Thank you for taking the time to make and post these videos!

    Tesa tape and wirelooms would be another great thing when installing a security system. it makes the thief think twice on which one is the wire and not. It all looks like it was from the factory. Yes i know people that are thieves and know what they are doing. but sometimes are sloppy. but yes Tesa tape and Wire looms.

    @7:15 when you say "its weird to see two starter wires on a Toyota" did you mean to say "ignition wires"? I'm trying to understand what this "ignition switch isolation" wire is for on my Viper 5706. So just before that, you were talking about wiring in a relay but that you were going to just put those wires together. Am I right in assuming that that relay is built in to my Viper? Is that what they are calling the "Flex Relay"?

    Wrapping wires as you show, is totally unacceptable in the trade.

    • @otterslide
      @otterslide 6 лет назад

      If you don't poke the wire through a hole and just wrap it around, de-soldering is a piece of cake. Also if you do it right, it doesn't fatten the connection at all, the solder flows between the strands. Not using solder causes loose connections later on, I've seen it happen.

    Hey I know it's been a while, but I had a question about the way you did the two starter wires together...I believe I heard you say that one was for "cold start," correct? And most people don't connect that one...Now, if you don't connect one or the other is it possible to get misfires, or problems? You said connecting both together won't damage the vehicle, but what about NOT connecting one, or the other...

    • @Lesscoelectronics

      The 2nd cold start wire is there for a reason, So I personally always do it, But in cases where the user is in a warm climate year round, that cold start wire would never be necessary.

    How to you feel about T Taps and other clips that tap into a wire? I have seen a few professionals use them for installs like this. I am planning on doing a remote starter in my 1997 Ranger.

    • @noclandevon
      @noclandevon 7 лет назад +2

      T-Taps are HORRIBLE and should not be used on a car or trucks ignition harness. If you use the incorrect size T-tap you will essentially reduce the overall guage of the wire and in most cases this can cause extensive damage to the ignition harness. By using solder or wrap and tape, like he did in this video you are keeping the integrity of the factory harness and also making it easily reversible if you need to do that. I cant stress it enough, T-Taps should NEVER be used, you will almost certainly see these being used at your local Car Audio shops if the installers are paid by commission.

    • @richycline
      @richycline 7 лет назад

      I ended up splicing in and soldering for the ignition harness wires. I used T-Taps for all of the small wire connections though, they were nice and easy. Everything worked out well :).
