Hi coach, thanks for the detailed lesson on how not to fail like I did :-) Some clarifications: when the queens came off, I had about 3 minutes left on my clock, with 15 seconds increment and no bonus time, so this entire phase was played in time trouble. But in fact, at this point I was very sure that the position was a dead draw - I just failed to demonstrate it... About f5 instead of Rxb6 - I don't fully remember, except that I thought I had an extra tempo to make him push b7 first, since I always have Kc7, and therefore could improve my pawns. But of course, what "improve" means to me in time trouble is probably not exactly the same as objective truth :-) I really like your point about keeping the white rook on b8 and my king in front of the pawns - I considered that but also thought I might at some point blunder a rook check and with it the game. Killing the pawn seemed safer (again, this is time trouble thought - not completely rational). And finally, I knew it was a Philidor position, but apparently I completely forgot how to play it in the excitement of the time trouble. When my opponent checked me on the 6th rank I knew I was unable to play the default Philidor, and didn't have enough time to think of a good alternative. Turns out, there were still many ways to hold the draw. I remember "Philidor goes wrong" from Silman but couldn't recall that during the game. Ah well, I'll be better next time!
By far the best chess instruction on RUclips. I especially like the content for advanced players. I’m around 1880 fide and struggle to take the next step. The strategy content is worth its weight in gold. Thx Andras 👍
9:45 you mention ..Re8 and ...Rd8 as possible moves that could have scared black. I personally might throw in the cheeky ..Rc8+, especially against lower rated players or in time trouble. IF Kxb6 I skewer the king + rook, see ya After Kd6 I move my rook back to b8. After Kc7 I play Re8, transposing more or less to the game.
If he had known the Vancura position, he'd not been worried about that pawn at all and would've played exactly as you showed, just being careful that the White rook doesn't get a check.

The black pawns are connected which is why I would choose black
I really hope you produce an intermediate endgame strategy course (or set of courses). You explain endgames more clearly than anyone else.
too good! Thanks for your continued quality content!
Good stuff! Always happy to see endgame videos from the Coach!
Glad you like them!
Instructive video, thank you for posting!
You are welcome!
Love this channel!
Rook endings was the reason why I stopped playing chess. I then picked up Silman’s book and realized I can do this
Good lesson. I would hazard a guess that this ending was played at high speed, which is a common affliction.

Great stuff
Whos youre fav chess player ? Beside me of course lol
Very helpful. Thank you.
Hi András! Great lesson! What"s your take on the rating bump that's going to occur 1st March? Do you think it's a good idea?
Wait what do you mean by rating bump?
@@GigaShiv the minimal rating is 1400 as of 1st March. Every rated player will be above 1400 so the ratings will be moved closer together so to speak.
Rook endings. Will watch agsin.
12:30, ...Rb3 instead of ...Rb4, cutting of the king isnt it an easier draw?
The best way to lose a game is to play for a draw!
