The R35 Nissan GT-R was an industry changing, segment defining, super killing machine when it first launched. But that was quite a long time ago, slightly over a decade in the past at this point. With moderate changes to the GT-R over the years bringing us to this latest 2021 model, can it still be competitive? The same 3.8L twin turbo V6 sits under the hood now making 565 horsepower, you have the same very advanced AWD system, 6-speed DCT and brutal performance. Refinement includes making the car more livable with additional sound deadening, updated interior with a new touchscreen and Apple Carplay. But is it still great? @@EddieX the intro music and videography was absolutely insane, so much improvement compared to your earlier videos it shows how much you’ve grown. The intro genuinely made me think I was watching the release video for the car from Nissan themselves
@@EddieX adding to the intro, it’s definitely something you should do for future car reviews instead of jumping straight in, I understand it’s probably very time consuming but it makes the quality of the video so much more engaging and greater
I also love doing the cinematic intros, and they for sure take a lot of time to film and edit, especially since I do it myself and im a complete amateur! I will try and do more, and certainly do it for the very unique or cool vehicles.
@@EddieX here's another opinion: I hate those intros and always skip them. I think they're only acceptable if you talk when they're showed like at 0:33

Guys you can hate Nissan all you want but just remember they were the ones that made affordable sports cars that could easily beat high end supercars so appreciate what they have done for the public since the 80s

@@miguelberetta7887 I think the true reneissance of the R35 was the year 2010 or 2011 when they finally raised power from somewhere in the high 400s to 530 hp and the codename switched from CBA-R35 to DBA-R35. What was before that isn't the true GTR we know and love.
It’s crazy how people complain about the GTR being outdated, yet gush over the Charger and Challenger Hellcats that are based on a E - Class platform from the early 2000s. Great review though Eddie!

The GT-R has an amazing presence. I have a 2020 in the garage and I always scan it over every time I see it. Too many reviewers take the easy road and say, "oh yeah, it is old, showing its age, time for something new." People don't realize how big the GT-R is. It is very stylish with its slab sides with the immense wheels. All the radius are sharp and follow the flow of the air. The front end has the huge scoop framed by those unique LED lamps - quad for driving and two more for the high beam. Aged? Park it next to any sports sedan and ask that question again.
The only people that talk smack about a GTR are the people that can’t afford it...

The speedometer with the carbon fibre finish is just perfect and the layout is great and timeless. It's not outdated and it never will be. People just used to it and want change for the sake of change
I’ve wanted a GT-R since the R32 was new! Absolutely love the R35!!!
That's insane! And also kinda sad... My first time I wanted a Skyline coupe (didn't quite knew the specs back then) was just after the last R34 sold new, the year 2004-2005 or something. I was like 7 or 8. Since then I never really dreamed about one. I liked it a lot, I even based my imaginary offroady SUV on a GTR R35, but never trully wanted to buy it. I always preferred the 997.2 Turbo S over the GTR back when these two were hot. And now the R35 is dying without any sign of a successor and I suddenly started feeling terrible about it... Like I missed the great vehicle that could've been my dream car but now it no longer makes sense cos the C8 exists. Same shit was with Hyundai Genesis Coupe that I thought was FWD like its predecesspr Tiburon and started liking it like 4 years after it was released when it already started to feel dated and soon-to-be-discontinued.
All the GTR's are timeless-not matter the generation. They are just truly a beautiful car
I just binged the Fast and Furious movies again and I'd say that the GTR is still my dream car. I will own one someday.

This is the color I've been waiting for didn't like the racing stripes on the 50th anniversary edition but all Bayside Blue is where it's at! I hope to see more of them, there's so many White & Red GTR's made.

I LOVE MY 2016 GTR R35
The 2009 R35 GTR would be about $90,000 today adjusted for inflation.
This one has 105 more horsepower, lets say that's $10,500 worth of power (at $100 / horsepower).
Base price of today's GTR is $113,500
So you're basically paying about 113500 - 10500 - 90000 = $13,000 more for a more updated modern GTR
But a C8 Corvette with a few thousand dollars of performance parts will be the same fast for about 60% the price :/
I still like the GTR, especially in that Bayside Blue, definitely a head turner and a rare color (future collector car potential I think)
People saying the gtr is outdated why would they change a platform and engine that is still rocking the streets?

Bought one exactly the same colour but recaro seats ,to join my r32&34 gtr. Great review . Drives way better than my previous my14. Changed to mps4s tyres straight off the bat. Te37s to go on then titanium y pipe. Job done

CRAZY how the GTR was bashed for being too controlled at debut but now it’s considered RAW lol there is still something about it that looks amazing. I’d trade in my C7 Vette for a stock older GTR in a heartbeat

I'm on a GTR youtube binge, I might end up getting one for this summer, I can't see myself keeping it forever since it's not my normal style of car (i like small coupes/roadster). I think it would be fun to drive around a FBO E85 GTR around Chicago, especially with the car scene blowing up recently.

The R35 will never need an update, like the R34 and all other GTRs produced. Each generation was unique among other cars from its time. The R36 will be its own generation of car.

Because of the Performance Name and its Relatively Low Price for this kind of Power..
My only "complaint" is that the steady increase in price is putting it further and further out of range for more and more people. The best part about the launch car, was that it could be had for 70k. The new one might be similar value, but the price increase itself narrows down the potential market significantly, which is a shame. I'd love to see how a modern 70K GTR would look today, with modern innovations and increase in performance without lifting the pricetag. How much have we actually improved in these 10 years? That's the real question. It's easy to improve over time when it just comes at the cost of increasing the base price, that doesn't show much evolution, but rather just changing its weight class. Would a 120k GTR back in 2010 feel the same way a 120K GTR does today?
It’s just 565 hp on paper. Each engine varies so it might be pushing more
Iremember talking to a very bright autistic valet guy that worked at Nissan back in 2009 when I had took my moms xtterra for a recall, he told me all the stats of the car back then from the head and told me despite putting 480 HP on paper he said the technicians at Nissan told him it’s putting 500 north HP at the time
@@SocraticMind89 wouldn't surprise me if Nissan are deliberately understating the car. It's already good value just from the spec sheet, and then when people go and drive it they are still even more pleasantly surprised by it feeling more powerful than they expected. Great marketing strategy, but of course it requires a truly solid product to succeed. And the GTR is just that. An all in all solid package

@@marco30599 even if the Corvette is sold for way above the MSRP it still would be a better value than even the base GTR, let alone the NISMO. And, I haven't really set in any of those, but from the reviews it seems Corvette has better interior, better build quality, better tech. Paying like $25000 for just the AWD which doesn't really make your laps quicker is ridiculous.

@@liamhunter2403 Thanks man. I appreciate it! I was able to get a 2019 Honda Civic Type R and LOVE that thing! The amount of performance, quality and driving fun Honda packed into that car for its price is amazing especially with that sublime 6-speed manual. With the push to electrify everything on 4 wheels if people want one of these amazing cars like the GTR and have it with a warranty they have to find a way to get it more sooner than later. I'm working on it.
@@StandingUpForBetter Sounds like a solid buy. The Type R's pack a punch for sure and they weight 900lb lighter than a GTR-a few mods and you'll be seeing crazy numbers.

The interior seems to be very modest looking for such a car, almost like 90's interior with good quality materials, compared to other constructor , the japanese way i guess .... simple but straight to the target

I love the gtr, but the interior simply never lived up to rest of the car, even when it was first introduced. They could leave it pretty much as is, but update the interior and it would be near perfect

Met you in Northern California with my 2016 GTR and I told you this car is still awesome. The 911 is way older but can't wait to see what the R36 will be. I am JDM guy and Nissan GTR fan for life.

Nissan cant compete with Porsche anymore Porsche is light years away from Nissan. The GTR is great car for its Price but the R36 will be no way near on a 911 level especially the GT porsche.

Should you buy 2021 Nissan GT-R or wait for new model couple more years. I think this car with Bayside blue is just perfect, but this a decade old chassis.
