When the snow is deep enough, the floorpan seats on the snow and the tires loose contact to the surface. That's the end of forward driving with almost all SUV or 4 WD cars like a Subaru, BMW 3 series x drive or a VW 4Motion
I read some place that "sand/mud" mode actually does better in deep snow. Snow mode is more for snowy roads (like roads recently plowed but still snowing), not snowed over roads. Snow mode is a 60/40 power split with the front/rear axles--mud mode doesn't have a set split and will go all the way to 100% to the rear. Did you try the sand/mud mode?
Driving properly mine does 10 L/100Km combined (on plain and dry roads). On wet or snowy roads it does worse of course. Last summer I drove 850Km to go on vacation and on that trip I had an average of 8.3 L/100Km (almost all highway and up and downs in the mountains).
that might be, however I didn't really see him struggling that much, this was the first night he had the jeep so we were testing things out. When the rear locker was enabled he had no problems. He now has 245/70/17 Wrangler Territory Tires on it now, real snow tires and way more aggressive that factory.
Vehicle now has 245/70/17 Wrangler Territory Tires, this video was taken literally hours after my friend had picked up his TH, so he was still learning the 4x4 modes esp ect

It takes time to learn your systems...You want more momentum in the snow...Try without the locker then with but you need some more speed.
i purchased my trailhawk with 3.2 L engine last week. overall, i like it on road though i am expecting a better mpg from it.
What are you averaging on mpg right now?
I have the 3.2L and I avg. 10L/100km city. And 8 on the highway.
SaintJames40 surprisingly, the mpg got A LOT better. now combined mpg is 22-23 on #87 gas...

My 2014 sport Cherokee is better on snow. I have 4 snow tires. Big difference.

2014 Cherokee Trailhawk Mud Slinging! It does rather good in the mud now too
Pretty disappointing. I expected better performance.
