  • My brother had been wanting to take his Xterra offroad for a while, and one of our old college buddies wanted to test out his 'new to him' 4Runner. So as soon as we got the winch installed we set a date for the next available weekend! Had a few Trailhawks come along and it was a great day on the trails!
    Mods:
    -Rocky Road Super Sliders (rock rails)
    -Dobinsons KL Trailhawk suspension lift, paired with partial Hazard Sky lift spacers to achieve 2.5" lift
    -32" Milestar Patagonia MTs (265/70/17) (had to trim front fenders and pinch welds)
    -40" Rough Country Curved LED DLR Light bar with Hazard Sky mounts
    -Rock Lights (cheapo)
    -4" Pod Lights (cheapo)

    Doesn't matter what you bring to the table, as long as its with good people, and good scenery, wheeling is fun, especially when you send it! Props to you all. Most of the better equipped and capable rigs in Southern California just crawl the Malls, so the fact you're getting dirty with a lot less is all the more inspiring.

      Eggs. Act. Lee. The more people out there enjoying it safely and responsibly will only help this sport/hobby out in the long run. Had a guy snap an axle recently on a ride, i felt bad for him and kept apologizing...he kept saying "a bad day on the trail is still better than a good day sitting at home". I even don't mind seeing mall crawlers...because they are buying Jeep parts...keeping the market viable for the rest of us!

      I think Trailhawk might be #2 behind Rubicon on a muddy hill climb... As far as traction on dirt goes... Probably #2 out of all jeeps. On rocks... Yeah maybe a Wrangler sport with 40s can take it.
      2 inch lift on the trialhawk is like stock Rubicon to me.
      My humble opinion.... Dunno if Jason agrees ...

      Got a 2019 KL trailhawk over other, let's say, more capable machines for 2 reasons. I have a family I need to haul around as my daily driver and I want to be able to handle a good amount of offroading challenges.
      These videos are awesome. I'd love to own a wrangler but it's just not practical. I feel the newer cherokees are a good blend. My best friend is a hardcore wrangler owner and was super excited for me and just loves to crawl and get to places most can't. I feel people like that are like that are the true Jeepers. The haters just want to feel elite at something. The same people who want to shit on the Toyota FJ and 4Runners and the like.
      We all love the outdoors and upgrading our rides. Keep crawling!

      @@m.g.1089 Right on. Full disclosure, since I posted my initial response, I got rid of the Wrangler and went back to the cult of 4runner... for much the same reasons you went with a KL TH. It was a toss up for me between the two, and ultimately I just like Toyota. For real world application with more than a passing dash of off road capability 4runner and KL TH are VERY hard to beat.

      We got a few odd reactions throughout the day since there wasn't even a wrangler in the group. That is one of my favorite parts of taking the KL out...most of the people you run into on the trails are not expecting to see it, and it shows on their face!

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  4 года назад +1

      You can do a fair amount stock. We had 2 bone stock TH's (with newb drivers) on this ride, neither of them had to get pulled. Lift and tires cause extra wear on other parts, so be prepared to start replacing CV's and other suspension related bits that won't be covered by the dealership. If i didn't ride so much with my club i'd probly left it stock with just the rock rails. I really miss being able to say "yep, and i'm still stock".

    • @mrjomaled755
      @mrjomaled755 4 года назад

      Thanks for the advice. I keep forgetting that lifts and other mods do place extra stress on the suspension and running gears. I may just do rock rails at least and perhaps increase my tire size to 255/70 or 245/70 . I’ve read a lot in the blogs about using that tire size without any lifts or pinch welds but I get so many conflicting answers. What’s your take? And thanks for replying by the way.

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  4 года назад

      The gen2's have smaller front wheel wells, but even then, tire size is one of the most helpful forms of lift you can get, and even 1/2" more clearance can make a big difference. As to which size won't need to grind, it is really a per-vehicle thing as some do and some don't, for whatever reason. Mine is different fits between driver/passenger sides.

    Best commercial for a trailhawk ever, or the longest, or how to void your warranty....great video, it goes to show rigs almost stock, can get out there and enjoy...

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  4 года назад +2

      3 of these were bone stock. And technically we aren't doing anythibg to void warranty as we're just driving down county roads to "visit friends". Only issue i've had with warranty is the CV boot that got torn by debris, and the bent strut mount from taking a bad line over a big washout.

      For the water crossing? There were some SxS's that were puttering around the area. I never looked at that rear quarter of the Ranger, but i imagine there was some light scuffs. Unfortunately for that section you go where the rut sends you, he was just straighter and wider in the back than the rest of us.

    • @FearlessTrailhawk

      This ride consisted of a number of old unmaintained county roads near Chilicothe. Unfortunately it has proven unwise to give people the trail addresses as it 8s easy to take a wrong turn in this area, and the locals can get very protective of their private property. Most of the Ohio based jeep groups do organized rides through the area.
      The trails have also gotten a bit more challenging in the 3+ years since this video was filmed.

I do my best not to discriminate, as i am usually the recipient and it can suck sometimes.
      Yes, the 4Runner is stock with the exception of some light AT cooper tires? As to offroading, i'd never been until i owned my previous Trailhawk for a year...then went on a stock ride, on most of these same trails, and was instantly hooked! I am looking to get a Cherokee Trailhawk and want to do a two inch lift and some tires but have been told by many that's it's not made to be lifted. But then I see a decent amount of people with a lift and figured I would ask someone like you with the first hand experience.

    • @FearlessTrailhawk

      Depending on where you are located, you may be able to get dealership to install lift and fully maintain warranty. MFC (one of the companies that makes lifts for us) has agreements with a number of dealerships.
      As to my personal experience, i'd say don't there aren't many issues until you do more than 2". Currently i'm sitting around 2.5-3" and i've had a couple CV's go bad and one of my bushings. That may also be due to me taking it on the trails a lot as well. They certainly look better with a lift and tires.

Drove on that for 2 months then replaced it before the Colorado trip. At some point late summer, the left rear started clicking. Have driven on that since and will likely replace that soon-ish. The right side is still doing fine since the 2nd replacement in July (i think it was either bad part or bad install).

    nice video, if you air down, probably would have all been easier

      @FearlessTrailhawk  4 года назад

      Umm, most of us did air down, some of us ~20 some ~25. All the stock tires is what gave a couple of them more trouble, but nobody needed pulled so it worked out okay for everyone.

    poor ranger....

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  4 года назад

      He may have also accidentally engaged his e-brake a time or two... But yeah, longer and more square rear end doesn't play well with the walls on the side of the ruts sometimes.

    I DEEPLY REGRET buying my 2020 Cherokees. Learn from my MISTAKES. My 1st 2020 Cherokee was a lemon and my 2nd 2020 Cherokee was not built right and neither Jeep or the selling dealer Bob Poynter Columbus will make it right . BUYER BEWARE do NOT BUY a Cherokee or trust a Jeep dealer. Just Empty Every Pocket is a TRUE acronym.

      Yep, it has been so terrible i would buy mine again in a heartbeat...i got a 2019 and have almost 50k hard miles on it!
      All makes have issues. The lemon laws weren't written just for Jeeps...

      That's why you don't buy the brand new model of anything.

    Don't go mudding unless, you have a brand-new, very knobby set of tires....

      I honestly think it's a combo of the tires and driver that account for most of that. I've seen lots of impressive rangers, but this wasn't one of them.
