  • A month ago, "Terry" one of our viewers inquired how to remove the trimmer head from the Atlas 80v trimmer. After looking at it, I had an idea of how to do it but I finally got around to testing my idea out. Since there are no instructions on how to do it and no videos that I could find, I am convinced that this needs to be out there to help someone who is in this predicament. Hope it helps. Thanks for watching, liking, sharing, and subscribing.

This trimmer head is exactly like the Toro (60v Flex Force) string trimmer and there are no videos I could find anywhere (or service manuals online) that show how to remove it. It has the same exact mechanism inside as this Atlas. Thanks a lot - glad I found this video!

After removing the head on this 80V trimmer, note Atlas 80V trimmer head is the same on 80V Greenworks or 80V Kobalt. They all have a right hand thread 10 mm x 1.25 which is not likely to be included option for most "universal" trimmer head replacements. So my work around with the Echo Speed Feed 400 was to take their smallest threaded nut option and drill it out with 11/32 drill bit and then tap the hole to make M10 1.25 threads. Then the new "universal" head can be attached just as you showed in your video.

That's great advice! Thanks for contributing. I might just try that one since the echo speed feed seems to be the head of choice.

THANK YOU FOR THIS video!! It was SO VERY, VERY concise and helpful! My husband is working out of town currently, and he tried to instruct me over the phone on how to stabilize the shaft, to remove the trimmer head, but he thought there was a hole somewhere on the housing (there is not LOL). Finally after looking at an online manual (which does not have any info on it either), he said I should do a search for a "how to" RUclips. I just googled it and there is your video. I guess I can't directly answer your question for sure except to say that the aftermarket head would have to be set up to receive an approx 5/16 shaft and have an area at the end of the shift to put a compatible threaded nut on the end. The fact that many of those heads are uniquely compatible with certain models makes it hard to be 100% sure.
I might look into some different brand heads to see if there are any close compatible options.

I don't understand where you're putting your flathead screwdriver. When I look down through the shaft hole on mine there are these sets of black plastic lines and there is not room between any of them to put a wide screwdriver. And then I'm still not sure where you're actually putting it because your video doesn't show that very well.

I'll do what I can to help. So you're viewing it from the bottom of the trimmer head (like looking directly at the bump feeder button). Remove the bottom as if you're taking the line spool out. In the center, there is a metal part which is the end of the shaft and it has a large slot like a flathead screw. That is where all of this video happens.

@@tractorstrailsandlivingfree So is your flathead screwdriver in the slot while you turn the spool head counterclockwise? I thought you were slipping your flat head screwdriver down the side trying to lock a hex nut in place

@@hc9987 You got it! As I said in the video, your just holding the shaft from spinning while unscrewing the head by hand. It will be tough at first due to the blue threadlocker compound, but after a couple turns it spins right off.

@@tractorstrailsandlivingfree ok, unfortunately I can't get a screwdriver down the side. I guess I'll just have to keep the same head that's on it. Thanks anyway for the clarification
