The MOLE has a bunch of annoying things that if fixed would make it a great ship. 1. The turrets need lights. 2. The two wing turrets need to allow the miners to exit the seat when extended so they can attach mining gadgets to rocks in eva or to hop straight to the ground without having to enter the ship and use the elevator. 3. All the turrets need an extra joint for better mobility and coverage. 4. Sorting materials is a must for this ship.
The MOLE has always been one of the weakest designs out of CIG. It looks cool, but everything about how it works is just intentionally awkward to force the multicrew aspect. It's really just a bigger ROC-DS.
Biggest question that the Arrastra presentation left with me is why it's armed better than... well, most gunships? Like, if those side turrets are quad 4s, unlikely as it is, that makes this mining ship more potent than a lot of patrol boats and gunships we have in plan or game. Personal opinion is this isn't the "step up" mining ship they claim it to be. This is the "we're going onto the Vanduul front to get resources" ship where being attacked is an absurdly common occurrence. And that makes sense. You have the MOLE for normal mining at this level, and the Orion is likely going to be so chunky that attacks don't matter to it, but it's expensive money and people-wise to run.
this will be my daily driver when it come out, willl recruit teams in it each time im on it. will help both red and blue players gain easy money if i get hired to operation of mining
Was actually looking into accompanying my Prospector with an Expanse this IAE, to use in remote mining areas as (at least) a duo and not be dependent on refineries in potential hostile territories. But dang, this thing looks mighty interesting and if it's not too expensive I might snag one up, could be useful once I can make time around the weekly FRCN mining expeditions. I've really been digging the RSI design language of late and this one fits right in my fleet
This was the year I discovered I was an RSI fanboy 😂 keep in mind that there will probably be plenty of these to crew within an average mining night though!
Great video! I feel like the new ships are looking better and better, and I can't wait for this ship! You should consider remaking your Ships of Star Citizen series because there's been a lot of new releases and it was a really useful series for me getting started
Maybe not expanse - it is supposed to have 6 separate refineries - Arrastra will likely not be so versatile .. might still be value in having an Expanse in tow to help.
@@womblissimo6666 depends if you can finish a job and then the Arrestra has a cargo hold to put it in. I think the Expanse needs to have a cargo ship to free up those six refineries.
I concur - I was suggesting the expanse always was supposed to be part of a team .. the fact it likely has a more versatile refinery selection makes it less "endangered" @@Dracounguis
I buy every ship below Capitals, i dont need to know a single thing about it, yet the aesthetics are often a nice additional plus. Forget FLEET, forget CAREER, none of these matter, is all it takes for many to enter a hissy fit is a new concept or content, and their lives are meaningless. So, do yourself a favour and buy the feckin lot, as it gives you multiple options at the best price, and if like me, you have loads of Instore Credit, everything is zero$. Kerching!! Noice one Guns.
It's probably safe to assume that the RSI Arrastra is going to be the new loaner for the RSI Orion. Since we probably wont see the Orion ingame for quiet a long time, by that time the Arrastra will long have been available to purchase ingame.
Mole is suppose to look the way it does because it a beat down type tug their meant to look rugged and simple because that's what there meant for the common person
for someone that got the Expanse and still waiting I am thinking of upgrading the expanse to the Arrastra and melt the Prospector as I'm sure the arrastra could be solo if needed just got to go for walks to start the refinery for QT lol the rest can wait till its safe. BUT I am not putting anymore cash into the game. I've spent enough. I got a package Fortuna some years ago and yes I like the 600i and 400i along with the phoenix and the MSR but I dont pick them when I get to ATC and I like the look of the E1 and the Zeus. So I'm thinking of putting the cash to good use
I think there might be a lot of folks in that particular boat (or maybe those who own a mole and an expanse). Having it on one ship should certainly make it more manageable. That being said after citizencon one of my personal big concerns is that very few larger ships will be effectively soloable. You might think differently but it would be my big concern.

We need more starter profession ships and not more multicrew. When you start the game, you should have a solo resource ship. What we have currently is meh to say the least.
I disagree. Having people in the manual turrets in the MOLE feels more immersive (though I generally hate that word), more enjoyable, and more visibly appealing to me. I'm not the biggest fan of always having all operators on the bridge Star Trek style, but the MOLE does need some sorely needed TLC and I'm already to drop some cash for the concept. Gotta have my complete mining fleet
The Arrastra looks promising. I'm a little worried about the turret coverage since CIG likes to leave huge parts of ships and especially non-combat ships undefended for any solo Aurora to tickle to death but other than that and the expected price (MOLE is already $315 + tax...) the ship looks good.
I feel like a dedicated mining ship should be vulnerable to pirating. Think about it. You will be able to earn more per hour with ships like this and you can pay a friend "or find someone" who likes to dogfight to run protection for you. Many people don't like to think about it but this is a MMO. And the game is definitely going towards a more multicrew gameplay. Like it or not I don't think one person should be able to run the ships that are about to come into the game in the next few years. Even now you can't go out in a Carrak and be totally safe. And I like that. Multicrew gameplay has the potential to make this game so amazing. If CIG does it right that is.
Reclaimer is also one of the ships that need rework so badly, its just horrible at the moment the interior layout is ok but totally agains any safety regulations, the decks need althernative paths to get through and not just the elevator. it cannot load the big 32 SCU boxes even tho the ship it self is massive, the back of the ship is not acceseble if the elevator bugs out. it cannot dock or land on space stations do to the airlock for that function is blocked by one of the engines. and the Rec dispencers are laughably small. they should print out like maybe size 4 boxes.
Honestly probably going to swap my mole out for it. I like mining but this one just seems like it has a better overall design especially for crew mining
I already own an Orion so I should get this ship as a loaner once its released (and I suspect it will be released before Orion). So why buy. I will just use this ship until the Orion is done and just buy it in game with Orion money once the economy is working properly. No new money spent 😊.

On the one hand it’s ability to fly (you can just about keep a loaded hull c aloft on low gravity moons but anything more and it sinks like a stone) and on the other it’s the ability to land - e.g. I’d imagine the Orion won’t have a landing gear.
The biggest of the ships don't have landing gear so that's part one lol, but once mass and thrust finally means something to each other in theory they should just collapse to the surface if the flight model is setup right
This might be a ship I’ll pick up with cash. Mining is definitely my favorite activity in SC and I like it in space and on land. If I were to command a ship, it’d be one like this. I'm really looking forward to this ship. Imagine one of these setting down near a Pioneer to provide refined resources for base building. Or maybe a Galaxy with the proposed base building module. I hope there is a way to load external ore, like from a Prospector or Mole, into the refinery loop.
Yeah I’m guessing price (to be clear I tend to think far more in UEC terms than $$$) will be a big factor. This is logical progression post-mole to my mind.
Have you considered that anyone with an Orion will likely get this ship as a loaner when it is flight ready? Orion will need a re-concept so Orion owners would likely have this for years before they ever see an Orion.

I found the channel due to mining guides and can confirm, this is his excited voice Im disappointed this ship doesnt have any new mechanics, say underground mining like they showed settlements having. However, this does seem like the perfect mining and refinery ship for what we have in the game now. Definitely think this is going to blow the Mole away when it comes to multicrew gameplay
Tbh I’m ok with it leveraging the existing gameplay because at its root it’s a good base. I’d just expect over time the challenges and solutions to develop further

I don't think they will rework the mole. It was designed to be a more risky mining ship. Presumably to make the thing more affordable in the little man mining market.
With the value of anything picked up by two, hopefully busy ROCs as well as the refined minerals this ship has the potential to be a high value target and while running unescorted in the Halo may be an option, I'm hoping its cracking ability will be at least x2 that of the Mole, anywhere on a planatary or moon surface I'd want a dedicated escort on hand or at very close call. I think that needs to be part of the permanent balance sheet, especially if working, as you might, in roughter areas such as Pyro. Like you, pretty excited for this, although I do see a situation where there's an element of the Mole beocming obsolete once this is available for aUEC. Of course, it will be a LOT of aUEC I guess. SC have yet to formalise syndicate ownership but this does look like a good candidate for a small group of regular players to consider if bought in game.
I think maybe one thing that could swing things back to favour moles / prospectors a little would be the option to be carrier based. And personally I think if they don’t make a mining carrier or refinery module for the Kraken then they’d be missing a trick. That said like you say - price can always be a determining factor. Yes this could just be way better than the mole but cost a lot more - representing a decent advancement for a mole crew and making room for the extra mate or 2 they picked up along the way.
Gonna agree with others that it will be $500 or less to keep those of us with Hull C CCUs sitting in our hanger from being able to get that $150 dollar savings.
I'd imagine remote turrets are much easier to design. No hallways or animated chairs to worry about.

Yeah - they noticeably at some point realised remote turrets were better, but some ships like the mole are stuck with the old ones

@@demonic75 it was CIG's decision to make remote turrets less cool. No radar screens & etc. Something they could change whenever they feel like it.
Based on the leaks I was hesitant. It felt too much like the Galaxy...aaaaand now I think it looks really cool!

I’m all for that and I love the Argo aesthetic - I just think remote wing turrets would make a lot more sense and utilise space far better.
