I do appreciate the look of legitimate concern after he punches his son in the diaphragm. Most Viltrumites don't even bat an eye to that. That's like a hug in their culture.

He was hoping Mark wouldn’t develop powers so that he could keep making excuses not to conquer Earth yet. Once Mark got the powers in his Viltrumite influenced mind he thought he *had* to begin pushing the plan forward.
Honestly I think Earth would've been screwed pretty soon either way. If Mark hadn't developed his powers by the time he became an adult, it's likely that the Viltrumites would've just told Nolan to kill him and wipe out the planet. After all, the entire reason he's there is so that Earth can become a breeding camp for the few remaining Viltrumites that survived the Scourge Virus. If human half-breeds can't develop powers, then all of earth is basically useless to them.
It's more like he wished that Mark never gained his powers so he could outlive his family and conquer the planet guilt free. He loves Debbie and his son, but he never wanted them roped into this if he could help it.

Very likely. But also, it may just be a puberty thing. Aspects of it hit at different times for everyone. And I doubt Nolan really remembers what puberty was like for him millennia ago. So he may not have a good reference to compare. Heck the powers might appear a little faster in Mark because he's half human. I don't know if it takes longer for Viltrumites to hit puberty age.
Probably more of a physiological thing as later in the story we see in the comics other characters getting their viltrumites powers way earlier then mark probably just depends on the person and how fast the viltrumite genetics take over

I think he was testing his durability and was not quite sure how strong he was so before punching him like he did later he has to test out every aspect of his viltrimite powers. he tested speed strenght and durability here. super poked him to test if it would hurt him

I feel like if the poke was harder than falling into the ground, it would have at least shoved Mark back a bit, especially because he just got his powers, or mark would have pointed out that it hurt because mark would definitely be able to feel it if it was a super poke.

Nolan HAS to find a species capable of working together with viltrumite DNA, so after finding out that Mark can use Viltrumite abilities he likely realized Humanity is going to have to be enslaved if they want to repopulate and restore to their formal glory
And it’s funny how self inflicted the extinction from what I’ve seen is, that “purging” was useless from what the show has shown on screen? Unless it was tied to a power struggle?
@cosmictraveler1146 eh probably. I think it was after the death of the previous emperor. The one ruling the Viltrumites currently is a regent, so not a legitimate ruler. He might have set the purge in motion to enforce his own ideals and weed out less cooperative members.
I really do love how detailed Nolan's explanations are for how you fly and his points about how you can use the ability to fly like that to put a lot more power behind your hits. It's that ounce of grounded realism that I love about shows like this
Its funny seeing Nolan teach Mark how to fly. It kind of reminds me of my dad teaching me how to drive, just the fatherly tone in his voice, the lighthearted little quips... Its kind of sweet, if you don't think about the rest of the show 😂
So much of this reminds me of vegeta and trunks I could see them doing this the flight and fight training and bulma pissed off at vegeta for ACTUALLY hitting trunks

I thought it was Nolan being overconfident in Mark's durability, but he did just witness Mark crash into multiple concrete buildings by actively flying into them, falling into the ground at terminal velocity likely wasn't something to worry about

That sounds like a really bad idea. What if you accidentally teleport inside solid objects or end up with a corrupted teleportation signal, thus missing a few organs or just a duplicate scenario? Flying is safer compared to that.

Maybe I'm weird but even now I don't really get why Mark was as pissed as he was about that punch. Like in an abuse setting/the end of season fight yeah 100% be angry, but here it was training. My father taught me how to box. He pulled his punches but he still did punch me when we would spar. Without knowing about the Viltrimites true mission that punch was just Nolan training him. He literally explained that if Mark wanted to be a fighter he was going to take punches. I could understand if he had become afraid of his dad, but so angey that he wanted a now weak human to punch him and then go out looking for a fight.
