Thank you very much. I inked the firstB1 barrel it had a Germanic/Austrian tone. Thanks for what you are doing. God bless you. Bill. Uk

I liked the marbled b1. I am glad you addressed the tunning differences between the tosca and r13. Very different clarinets. I had to play on a stock 65 barrel until I ordered a behn 66. You sound great on all of them.

Thanks for watching Patrick! Definitely agree about the Tosca, it can be a challenge to find a good match!

You sound good on all these, but I do prefer your sound with the stock barrel. More overtones and colors with that barrel, to my ear. By the way, regarding synthetic barrels, Is there one you particularly like that has maximum projection, while still maintaining a reasonably full sound and respectable intonation with an R-13 or similar instrument? I actually intend to use it on a plastic instrument mostly (Backun Alpha) for playing in louder situations in difficult climatic conditions. For reference, my standard barrel on the R-13 is a Chadash.

The marbled B1 had the most clarity. And evenness of scale. Which helped on whatever that setup is you have in this vid. The Regular B2 was good as well
Not sure about resistance but I’ve found out for myself that having reactance but not overly so helps me to achieve a “fuller” sound which isn’t louder per se.
the Tosca barrel sounded good on the horn just less color nuances. But to each his own. Good luck. And TAKE IN MORE AIR Brother 😎 💨

Agreed about the Marbled B1 having the most clarity, that is a good way to put it! In general I like having some amount of resistance in my setup, if I don’t, I end up creating the resistance/tension in other places to compensate. And haha, thanks for your concern, but I promise I am getting more air than it looks like!

I liked your sound on the B1, however, none of the four were "miles" ahead of the Tosca barrel. The difference was infinitesimal. I currently play on a Moba barrel on my R13 and a Backun Fatboy on my Festival. The difference in sound, again is small, but the Backun barrels offer less resistance and a better connection over the break. However, the Festival barrel has more "zing" to it, more overtones and focus. If I put a Moenig barrel on the the Festival there is definitely a degradation in tonal quality and the same for putting a Buffet R13 barrel on the Festival. At my stage of life the Backun makes playing more effortless. Did you play the Glechweit barrels with the Gleichweit mouthpiece or the mouthpiece you usually play on. What was the control? Thanks again for a thoughtful review.

Good question! I used my PlayNick Tosca mouthpiece for this video. I originally considered using a Gleichweit mouthpiece (the barrels work great with their mouthpieces), however I am more used to the PlayNick mouthpiece and wanted to make sure I fully understood how the barrels changed the sound/response I was used to. Also, I figured a lot of people that don’t play Gleichweit mouthpieces might be interested in these barrels, so I wanted to make sure that the barrels still functioned well with a mouthpiece from a different manufacturer. Thanks, as always, for watching and commenting!

Perhaps try a Chadash on the Festival. You should get some “zing”

Hi guy i play Tosca too and it is too difficult to find a barrel that sounds better than stock one. The common problem is focus loosing….

Ya, the different taper definitely makes it a challenge!

I recommend a barrel made/ finished by Mark Jacobi!
