You are criminally underrated ma'am. I hope the RUclips algorithm gods bless you in 2021 and you get the views you deserve!
THANK YOU!!! god same
Algorithm sent me here so I think god answered your prayers 😁
your manifestation is working
Yes!!! I was so shocked our Leeja didn't have millions of subscribers
"criminally" underrated, kind of ironic when referring to a lawyer, I agree though, I didn't realise she had that low of a sub count. I think she'll end up with loads more as the algorithm brought me to her and obviously loads of others too. So it'll keep bringing more people here when the people before subscribe.
*APPLAUSE* after that "clothing & behavior for women in the workplace" speech! Thank you! You are definitely not alone. We all have old white guy criticism in our head.
I work in a male dominated conservative field. Every December we would have a holiday party. I always worried about looking good enough but not dress too sexy. I feel your pain.
As I enter my paralegal internship. I needed to hear this. I was concerned about my tattoos, and how I desire to dress v. what’s expected of me.
Totes wish I could work for her. Leeja’s a real g.
As a gay Black man I start every day asking “what would Preston Kennedy wear”
But women were complaining not men
I haven't worked in corporate America in years. But I remember the last time. I couldn't believe my ears. The abject sexism. I'm a white male and it made me so damn angry. I told them, this isn't the damn strip club guys, Jesus. Is it any wonder so many women feel disaffected. I blame men. Point blank. Specifically white men. You want to put yourself out there guys have a some respect. And for Christ's sake, you have to look like someone a woman would want to be with. It's really not that complicated. I made a decision in the early 90s to start training in the gym because I was really ramping up my dating scene. Well gee whiz, imagine that. Women like a hard body to snuggle up to. And some honesty and humor to go with it. Who would have thought right? These men today...I just smh. I heard a 29 yo recently talk about how he would rather play video games than date. Wow...just f'ing wow.
"Sue me..
You'll lose"😉
Truly iconic behavior
I second this!! Leeja is queen!
I love that
I love what you said about having to worry about what to wear in a corporate setting! I work at engineering firm and am so happy that we can work at home now bc of the pandemic. If I had my way, a person could have a blue mohawk if that is what they liked and how they felt comfortable. I hope we keep progressing and are more open minded in future.
Omg the suit rant, love it.
I’ve complained about my shoe and clothing options as a man but I definitely see how I can also half ass my dress prep and no one notices. Ever.

Julia Roberts was literally absolutely perfect for this role. I honestly felt like she was really Erin and I truly believe that in doing this movie, that she was truly angry about PG&E’s negligence and what happened to those innocent people in Hinkley.
lol. ok
She was definitely not perfect for this role. And the main issue here is that despite in the film showing how she was very attractive and used that to her advantage, which is believable cause Julia Roberts was an attractive woman when this film was shot. But now please take a minute of your time and go loop up the real Erin Brockovich. She is most definitely NOT attractive and can't use that an asset, which automatically makes this whole thing impossible, given on that note she shouldn't even been able to use that charm to get into that place where they held paperwork about water testing. This whole film would have had no sense if the actress looked like real life Erin. Which is what it should have if the film was to be based on reality. Not just hire an actress like Julia Roberts and have her use charm to progress.
New here - literally found you today. AAAANNYWAY.....I have worked in the public sector for 20 years and NEVER have I EVER looked good in a suit! You hit the nail on the head and I am here for it. I once had a coworker feel it appropriate to pull over the slit in my shirt whilst I was sitting down and tell me "I need a new skirt or to get it fixed". I literally bought it from a store that sells business attire. I couldn't even.
I've always loved this movie. I remember I did a report on it when I was in high school and wrote to her office to ask how accurate the film was to her life and they actually wrote back to me. My teacher was impressed. ☺️
What did it say 😮
I came across your channel through your comment on Bussy's vid and now I'm binging all your stuff. Love your vibe. Your dry humour is *chef's kiss* and your sass... but also your reflection level... your articulation... instant Stan!
One of my favorite movies of all time (and the movie that taught me how to swear in Spanish after I watched it in a Mexican hotel with Spanish subtitles), and your legal expansions were, as always, wonderful! And yes. Aaron could GET IT in this film. So could Julia.
one of the things I love about lawyers, is that they are so eloquent and have a wider vocabulary! great job and awesome content!! thank you!!
Totally admit to stumbling upon your channel while looking for more information about the Britney Spears conservatorship drama. I watched those videos first and I have to say after reading and researching A LOT, your videos were very concise and easy to understand. I then started going through every video lol. Good luck to you and I hope your channel grows!
Aw thank you!!!
As a Gen Xer that remembered this case first hand when it happened and enjoyed their interpretation of it in the movie, I LOVE how you reacted and explained it. Both what actually happened was interesting, but the movie and the way it came across was so much fun too. You covered both! Perfection!
eee thank you!!
@@LeejaMiller honestly. You could have gone the route of just pointing out what was "wrong" about the film, but you approached it in a way that both educated the reality, yet enjoyed the interpretation in a major motion picture at the same time. Both are valid so I commend you on that!
And you did it seamlessly. Perfection.
They cut a few scenes ii in my hometown - Ventura CA. Also Ed Masery spoke at my old church in LA. The waitress pouring coffee is Erin B
I’d love a follow up video about what’s going on with PG&E and Hinkley etc now. I have heard many rumours about Erin Brockovich and the law firm and that the people are still waiting for their money etc.
This just happened to be last the video of yours I watched but I am obsessed. I'm a habitual home feed scroller and you popped up a few days ago. I have pretty much not slept the last two days because I cannot stop watching. You are so engaging to watch to me. I enjoy how you talk and your sense of humour. Superb videos. 🖤💙🖤💙
Aw omg thank you!!
Aaron is so good looking.Especially in this
If you can, you should make a video talking about Rebel Wilson’s Defamation case that she represented herself in. She actually has a law degree which I don’t think a lot of people know.
Preach! Business attire as a professional female is treacherous. I'm a female engineer, male dominated industry. Not only is the male voice in my head but my female colleagues voice is also in my head telling me I shouldn't wear that outfit, or earings, or makeup. Just opened my own company, where I will wear the earings and makeup I want.
It’s definitely not the same as in male dominated fields - but one of the reasons I’m super excited to start my therapy private practice is so I don’t have to hide my tattoos and piercings!!! At least it is getting more common to have visible tattoos and piercings in some of the behavioral health field
Post covid, to entice return to office, we went business casual. I rock my large hoop earrings weekly.
Omg, Emily D. Baker has talked a lot about the ongoing problems with appearance conceptions in the legal field. She also brought it up recently in a collab live stream with NatalieLawyerChick and NatetheLawyer. Nate confirmed the b.s. does not affect men the way it affects women. The worst he's had to deal with is hair/race issues (which are still bad) - wearing an "appropriate" tie and a few comments on his hair. Natalie said exactly what you were alluding to. Both she and Emily (especially since Emily was a DA) have dealt with the ridiculous wardrobe comments, but Natalie also had to deal with the hair/race issues on top of that. She had a fellow African American attorney (much older) pull her aside once, telling her that her natural dreadlocks were inappropriate for court. She then later had a lawyer friend (also African American), who wore her hair straightened, tell her that a white female judge pulled /her/ aside and told her that her straight hair was, "too colloquial." Like, WTH? Damned if you do, damned if you don't. It's just insane. As long as you look professionally presentable, it shouldn't be an issue. The sexism and racism in any field needs to stop. Especially, in fields that require lots of education and training. You went to school for most of your young life and worked your ass off to get into that field, and your work should speak for itself. So stupid.
OMG I'm SOOOOOOO GLAD you did this!!!! freakin love this movie and of course your commentary, etc. Keep it up!
Sounded more like “deh-MURR” to me . . . I could be wrong, I’m going off a several years-old memory and your quick clip.
Love this movie, btw. Thanks for the review!
thanks for watching!
1:53 Yah the defendant was driving a Jaguar. GUITLY
Also, I can't wait to be called for jury duty. It seems like it would be a cool experience (especially if I get selected)
Amen to that! My dad always said "If you were on trial, would you only want the people who didn't figure out a way to duck out of jury? Or would you want an actual jury that properly reflects your community?" A lot of people need to hear that.
I've only been an alternate & I could've been dismissed (since I was pregnant & high risk), but I felt it was my responsibility.
Nice review. I really loved that movie. I was glad that the money made it to the unfortunate people who needed it.
“People in the legal field always had personality”. Yeah the people hiring the lawyers perhaps.
i feel bad. you defo have personality, that cowboy from new york joke cracked me up!
Watched this film again tonight and wondered about flint. Starting a law course very soon. Quite interested in reading the books on Hinckley by Erin and there are a few others. By the way I have met Julia Roberts when they were filming Notting Hill
omg amazing, Notting Hill is my favorite rom com! literally just re-watched it last night
@@LeejaMiller it us a beautiful moviebisnt itb. Nothing hill is a favourite of mine
Is there any other books you could recommend to me by Erin brokovich
@@unsolvedcasesandnews She also wrote I think a memoir called "Take It From Me" as well as a book called "Hot Water" and a novel called "Rock Bottom", though I haven't read them
@@LeejaMiller thank you I will look into those and read them. Thank you very much
"So sue me *wink* you'll lose"
Love it ❤
There was a Toxic Tort case regarding an area about 3 miles from where I live. If interested see Rohm and Haas (now owned by Dow) and McCullum Lake, Illinois. 33 cases of brain cancer in a village of just over 1,000 people in 400 homes. It involved vinyl chloride in the ground water. It took 8 years of legal battles; they settled in 2014. I believe the case was Gates v. Rohm and Haas Co.
Those same voices live in my head, rent free. I say fuck em and wear whatever the hell you want!
This movie is STILL one of my absolute faves💖💖💖
I quit school in the 9th grade, well actually in about the 5th grade is when i tuned out but still kept showing up. Not too many years ago a billion dollar corporation did some property damage to me. I negotiated a settlement with them over a 6 month period without hiring a lawyer or going to court. Their lawyers tried every trick to wiggle out of paying up by making me offers that were laughable and unethical and also making false accusations that they knew were phony, anything to try to shake my confidence in my position. I told them the amount i wanted and they agreed to it and wired it to my bank account. I think i could have gotten a lot more but i wasnt sure how hard i could push before they slammed the door shut and stopped talking with me. If they had forced me to go to court and hire a lawyer, that would have cost me a lot of money and time and physical energy, so maybe i could have gotten more on my own or maybe not, but it was a chunk of money that i really needed considering having chronic health troubles and no good source of money coming in.
38:35 . . . You know, it’s funny, the first two movies that came to mind I suddenly realized both star Susan Sarandon! You need to review The Client and Dead Man Walking . . . and I see you already reviewed Legally Blonde, so you’ll have the trifecta, as far as sassy ladies in the legal system are concerned. Not so much focused on the lady lawyers, but, A Few Good Men and A Time to Kill are a must.
ooo I'll have to look into those!
Leeja Miller - Just thought of another - The Firm (1993)
(and Susan Sarandon is not a lawyer in dead man walking, but I still think it’s very much worth watching).
. . . And while we’re at it, I Am Sam. Oh my gosh, they just keep coming!
As an accountant I felt heard. I literally had a women ask me once why I wasn’t wearing panty hose with a dress once lol. What fucking decade are we in???
Omg I’m so excited that you’re watching and reviewing this
Have you reacted to My Cousin Vinny? If not I need your take on Marisa Tomei in that movie
I would love to see you do a video on the differences between US and UK law, maybe even a series
“demurrrrerrerrrrrrrruurrrrsss” 🤣 😂 💀
Frickin love this film and I loved watching you react to it!!
Sooooo--the problem with the allegations & assertions being made against Erin by the doctor's defense attorney fall apart because of two crucial flaws : A. How could she know ahead of time that the doctor in his Jaguar would be speeding to (and through) that intersection?? ; B. How could she possibly know the doctor's occupation or net worth?? What if he's rushing to work because he's **deeeeply** in debt and just cannot afford to be late because he might lose his job??
"She wants to be a good mother and a good citizen, blah blah blah." That has to be the most lawyerly thing I've ever heard anyone say.
My class, Psychosocial Impacts of Mass Disasters, had to read the book about the Buffalo Creek Disaster when I was studying for my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Besides teaching us about emotional trauma in disasters, it was a real eye-opener about the legal system.
loved the oratorio about professional fashion stress 👌
7:25 "So sue me. You'll lose. 😉"
Cheeky! 😄😄
The policing of women's clothing is STILL happening in the legal field. In fact, a law society in Canada recently had a "Women in Law: How to dress for success" seminar and a lot of us were like PFO! Don't tell women how they need to dress to be taken "seriously" by clients or male coworkers.
God, I had to laugh so hard when she said you might wanna change your tie xD we have a politician in Germany, who's pretty old and of course a frontrunner for the Nazi party and he typically wears a tie with a hound on it 💀 although, some have also suggested it's a german shepherd.... the last few years have been politically rough on all of us I guess
"Suffer from the comfort of your own home" - that made me howl out loud!
One of the best movies of all time!! I think I wanted to be Erin Brockovich at one point🤣🤣I love strong women💪💪💪
That whole internal monologue gave me flashbacks. So thankful i no longer go to the courthouse daily. I always wanted to make sure it was about the client, not me. But that is a daily subjugation for those of us who love fashion and our natural hair. Working from my home office has been my salvation but I understand other women who have chosen to leave the profession altogether.
This was the first legal film I ever watched. I remember in the wardrobe discussion scene (7:30) just thinking; Oh! These other women are jealous of Erin cuz she’s “hot. But, the way Leeja explains it and to really contemplate how for decades women had to adapt to the patriarchal and (most of the times) misogynist wardrobe “etiquette” just to keep a “professional facede” is something that all men should really reflect on, especially those who keep complaining about women “asking too much equality”. Its true, we all need to be comfortable with ourselves in order to perform well in our jobs and that SHOULD include women and we men just have to learn to deal with it.
38:35 - heck yeah! Those are the best!
Hmm, any you're missing? I dunno... two films did come to my mind, but they're much less law-focused. The first that came to mind was Silkwood, which did eventually create a legal case, but it's not really in the film. The other was Working Girl, which I suppose deals with contract law a little, but never in a courtroom, that I recall. So... 🤷♀
Love the movie and adore your commentary on it ❤ my 3rd time watching your video
I am so disappointed that there isn't an audiobook of the book you mentioned. I love reading stuff like this, but I cannot sit still.
I thought lawyers were born with suits when they came out and they just grew along side of the lawyer
Please do miss Salone omg I can’t stop thinking about it and I feel like your the perfect person to watch it
"So sue me! You'll loose" Man! That's iconic.
John Denvers movie, oh God, it does have a lawyer part
If no one mentions it legally blond.
Have you made a video commenting on the legal disputes between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard? If not would you? I feel that Depp is the victim in a woman accusing a man of abuse case when it very much feels like it’s the other way around between them.
I think they were both abusive & toxic towards each other, but it's messed up that her behavior was not reported like his was. She was portrayed as the victim when she was *definitely* a liar & a perpetrator as well.
I grew up with her and she has never been kind. (I'm saying that in the most diplomatic way possible if you catch my drift.)
@@np1056 right they both seemed really toxic towards each other.
Wrong, he's a covert narcissist. The gleeful smiles, joking and 'duping delight' and then somber face on witness stand is the biggest indication. It's a lot of arrogance he's displaying. He's not that good of an actor to have people believe him. I think it's mostly people who hate women, men who weren't fans of me too and women who often don't like other women anyway. Observing his supporters is like that saying, show me who your friends are..
Great video !
hey thank you!!
HEY huge fan. I get on kicks where I re-watch your videos for days (this week in particular is one of those times lol) BUT I think the show Bull on Paramount+ would be super interesting to dive into/make commentary on. Sending love and hugs as always :)
Would you ever consider reacting to the legal plot points in the freeform tv show good trouble?
"So sue me... "
Me: No thanks, you're a lawyer
"You'll lose..."
Madam, you made me burst out laughing at 6 in the morning... good thing I'm alone in the house because I'd have woken everybody up
i have heard that some of the people did not get the amount that was shown in the movie
You look beautiful. Probably the edgiest lawyer I've ever seen. Don't know if you've seen but there was a video uploaded recently about Hinkley and Erin and she actually returns and speaks to the lady that Donna Jensen was based on. Apparently the company did not pay out most of the money and she not only has to work multiple jobs still to this day but also had to move. She eventually moved away from the plume only to find out that it has grown and she once again lost the house she ended up buying. So many years later and not only did they still not get justice but the town is a ghost town now. Also, regarding the town hall scene, most of the people there were people from Hinkley who were actually in the lawsuit, including the cowboy. Leaving you a link to the video. ruclips.net/video/OhDCTBqlkVM/видео.html
omg cool, thank you!
I've been binging your videos all day and I've been loving your legal knowledge and personality! also, it's refreshing to see a professional interested in astrology as you are and so, I just wanted to make sure if you ever read this, that hopefully you know cusps do not exist. You can check someone's natal chart (if their bday is on the last or first day of a sign and you're unsure) to see the exact degree of which actual sign their sun falls in. however, (if you wanted to know) your planet can be on the "cusp" between two houses, meaning if your planet is on the edge of one house and another, the planet can influence both houses if it is within a certain (debated) range of 3 degrees!
I swear I have taken legal knowledge from all your videos and am not just hung up on the astrology ahhh ahah.
Erin is one of my heros! Thanks.
Leeja, you need to do a reaction to the show Boston Legal!! Specifically, James Spader's character, Alan Shore
Great movie, You should also see A Civil Action
If you want a chuckle, Q-Force (a queer secret agent show on Netflix) has an *entire* Erin Brockovich episode in Episode 3 (and theyre only 30min episodes)!
I just found your channel and am thoroughly enjoying your content. Would you consider reacting to the movie (or book) Sleepers? It's a dark revenge story about 4 kids who went to juvy and experienced severe abuse in the 60s and then, 20 odd years later, two of those now grown kids happens upon a guard from their incarceration days and kills him in the middle of a restaurant. One of the other kids happens to be an up and coming DA at the time and orchestrates it so he's prosecuting the case and conspires for it to not only fail in convicting his friends, but expose the prison. Great cast including Robert DeNiro, Dustin Hoffman, Brad Pitt and Minnie Driver. Pitt and Hoffman have some great court room scenes. Purportedly a true story as written by Lorenzo Carcaterra (sp?)
Ooh The Good Wife would be interesting to react to (although it’s kind of long not sure how that would work)
Can you do a video react to primal fear or some ally McNeal court scenes!?
Your sass is so real. ❤️
more !!!
we all love Erin she is actually the best ever dont criticize her she did amazing work
1:48 There were clearly witnesses. I guess she just didn't attempt to make them testify.
Also, is this a true thing that happened to her, or this was added to the movie for shock effect and making sure the audience immediately sympathizes with her?
Omg I have to watch this movie!
Sounds like law is a lot like sales and it’s awful!! Especially in a sales role that is in an industry that deals with mostly men. I was in the top 5% of my entire company (with Thousands of sales reps) and the amount of dirty looks I got from guys at my work was insane. I have heard it all...I make sales because I’m a women and I must flirt with my customers, I don’t know anything about my product, I’m not able to understand what the guys are saying when they use technical speak. I just ignored them and then when they had a major problem with something and I would save their a$$e$ from making a big mistake that would cost a lot of money to fix. I would say anything or do anything I would come in and give them the information either in person or email and not saying anything else. Usually after that, they stopped the dirty looks.
Thankfully, I played on the boys golf team in HS because there wasn’t a girls team and I was the number one player my freshman year. And a ton of guys who play can’t believe that a 16 year old girl could be good enough at the game to play from the men’s tees let, let only play on the team all together. They would usually shut up after seeing 4 or 5 shots. I have learned that it’s far more satisfying to let my skill speak for itself and not say anything at all. Just let them make a complete fool of themselves and not say word myself.
I could listen to you talk legalese all day.
I super get suits not suiting all body types. I'm a pretty curvy trans guy and suits/clothes in general dont really fit me the same as a cis guy.
Ugh that’s frustrating!
Thank you.
Obviously we're gonna need you to cover what's going on with Tom Girardi now. You're the only moral lawyer left! (I kid, but still. So disappointing.)
I used to think her $2mm bonus eas impressive but now i think its really low for all the influence (if the movie is accurate) she had with this case.
You are so great,
Have you seen Ally McBeal?
Murder has no statute of limitations, also Arson no statute of limitations. Maybe Treason too? Not sure
I always think of the old English word "demure" when I hear this, it refers to a woman cause, ya know, old days, being reserved and shy and modest. Idk if the two words are related at all, Idk. They don't seem like the same thing. The sentence that is used most is something like "the woman would look demure, gazing down through her eyelashes" or something like that. I've also heard it used as an verb, though it's not normally defined that way, like "The woman would demure" as in, back off from some kind of behavior that seemed unfeminine, or give in. Kinda seems like the opposite of a demurrer. I found this definition: demurrer
[dəˈmərər]
NOUN
law
dated
an objection that an opponent's point is irrelevant or invalid, while granting the factual basis of the point.
The only point that stood out to me was "while granting the factual basis of the point" as in conceding to something... probably a stretch.
Btw when I pressed the little icon to say the word, it sounded just like it's said in the movie.
Have you seen “Suspect” starring Cher? 🙂
don't men have the right to show their personality? Is it enough to have the two options you mentioned, for their freedom?
Talking abourt sassy lady lawyers, have you reviewed "On the Basis of Sex" or maybe "Hidden Figures"?
So men should always wear suits even if they are "sassy" but women should wear what they want? Or do you mean the female attire has not been established yet? I would think it would be better to have choices than to always wear a suit uniform.
Am I not remembering it correctly that Erin had some shady evidence and stuff from her cases? Will double check but I liked it up a while back on recommendation.
Isn’t the attorney, Albert Finney plays being sued right now because he stole money from those settlements? Isn’t he married to a Real HouseWife of Beverly Hills? 🤔 Your videos are great yo
Masry? He died in 2005.
EDIT: You probably meant this other lawyer involved in the case. He wasn't portrayed directly in the movie. www.bustle.com/articles/131523-did-thomas-girardi-erin-brockovich-work-together-the-real-housewives-of-beverly-hills-newbie-has
Naw Aaron is a total babe, you aint crazy! "Don't sue me... you'll lose 😉" 😆🤣😂
Have you ever meet her
I WISH!!!
You're supposed to look perfect, but not too perfect ? Ever hear of Kurt Vonnegut's Harrison Bergeron and the handicapper general. He took it to extremes, but.... PS really good legal analysis.
baby got back??? oohhhhhh
I used to have a ponytail 👉😎👉
❤❤❤
Does everyone have a kooky civ pro professor?
I’m a man and so you probably hate me but leeja your radiating illuminating emanating beauty in this vid
ur gorgeous and soo smart !!!
