Medical bills cost at least ten times as much these days. It's thirty years later, since the real events in this story. Loved Erin's moxie - and Julia played it so good.
Adding to the cameos by Erin and Ed in the diner, the judge who dismissed the demurs and told them they're going to trial was the *actual* judge on the case - LeRoy A. Simmons - reprising his role! Thanks for the reaction - I'm a law student and this is a movie I've been returning to again and again as I continue my studies. I can also recommend The Rainmaker and A Civil Action as two other legal dramas worthy of your attention 😊
19:24 I love this scene for two reasons: 1) It shows the barrier starting to break down between Erin and her coworkers. 2) Erin has dyslexia, and this scene is alluding to that without saying it outright.
One of my fav's too. And a nice callback, when she said a similar thing to him "Do they teach laywers to apologize? Because you suck at it." :D And the way Ed/Albert Finney plays that scene, was just perfection. Trying to stifle a laugh, when he knows the shock she'll get when she sees the check, and letting her go off on him.
You've probably seen "bundt cake" before. It's made by pouring the cake batter into a particular form for baking. When it's finished, It looks kind of like a ring of hills. (The reason it became popular is because the large surface area of the shape makes it really easy for the cake to quickly cook all the way through, so it has a relatively short baking time and a low danger of ending up raw in the middle or burnt on the edges.)
I met Erin Brockovich, when she was on her first book tour, which relates the story told here. She is everything portrayed in this film, and more. Great reaction choice.
I read the book that this movie is based on. I also read a similar book that came out at about the same time called A Civil Action. It too was a true story that revolved around a similar incident; a company had been poisoning a town's water supply. But in that book and movie, it turned out the judge was in sort of cahoots with one of the attorneys from the company. The lawyer who brought the case on behalf of the town lost the case and wound up bankrupt and broke because of the judge.
Yea, the real Erin Brockovich plays the waitress but also Erin's boss Ed Masry (the lawyer) is sitting behind Julia Roberts in the diner @4:30 & 40:47 (the old guy with glasses).
Albert Finney, who played Ed Masry, was a British actor of long experience with many movies under his belt. His first big role was as Tom Jones in the movie by that title (1963), a movie that's about as British as you can get. The contrast between Tom, a mischievous young man who draws women to him like ants to sugar, and Ed Masry, could only be accomplished by a veteran of Finney's stature.
At around 15:30 ish.. Ed comes to her place after the firing. She jokes "Maybe it's Ed McMann". Ed was a side kick on Late Night TV back in the 60's, 70's on 'The Johnny Carson Show' He also was the face for 'Publishing Clearance Warehouse' and their $1,000,000.00 dollar sweepstakes where they came to your door to present the prize. You should check out the best of if you've never seen it. Cheers.
When I lived in Southern California, everybody knew who Erin was. Even people that weren't remotely connected. But we all hated PG&E (and still do). I love an intelligent woman who knows how and when to use femininity to get things for people she is helping. Outstanding film and woman.
PG&E has been doing their "thing" for decades. So has she. She came to speak once or twice to those of us affected (or with loved ones affected) by the Paradise Camp fire.
@@ahoyforsenchou7288 My wife and I lived in San Francisco in the 90s and were not affected by their hijinks like you and others. Love this movie! The real Erin Brokovich and Ed Masry make a cameo. In the restaurant scene with Erin and her kids, the real Erin Brokovich is their waitress, and the real Ed Masry is sitting in the booth next to them behind Julia Roberts.
I recently got addicted to the whole movie/music reaction genre on YT so I have seen more than I care to admit! You are far and away the best reaction channel I follow. The edits are perfect, and for me, always have the key elements of the movies you watch. I'm sure its a nightmare to cut these up and avoid strikes from the movie studios. I also appreciate the genuine emotions and inciteful comments in your videos. Thank you for what you do!
I've watched many people comment on movies, some have been talked constantly, turn off. A few you included are great. Very passionate man you will always have my support ❤️❤️
Fun Fact: Julia Roberts won Best Actress Oscar for this film. Also, the film's director (Steven Soderbergh) made 2 movies in the year 2000 (this film and TRAFFIC) and he received Best Director Oscar nominations for both movies in the same year. He became only the 2nd ever director to pull this off (after Michael Curtiz back in 1938). He actually ended up winning one of his nominations (TRAFFIC), the only time ever in Oscars history this event has ever happened in the Director category.
Another great movie is Mask with Cher. It is the story of Rocky Dennis. You will love it and it will make you smile, laugh, and cry. Cher is known as a great singer but she was so good in this movie.
and to think... Erin Brockovich only JUST came out of retirement to help a city where a toxic train disaster has left it covered in chemicals. It was s o weird seeing her on YT only a year or so ago still fighting the good fight!
George Halaby, played by Aaron Eckhart in the film, along with Brockovich's ex-husband Shawn Brown, alleged that she had an affair with Ed Masry. They also attempted to file a lawsuit against her for $310,000. Halaby was arrested and the lawyer John Jeffrey Reiner was suspended from practicing, convicted of extortion, and later disbarred.

I absolutely love this movie. And I loved your reaction. Julia Roberts and Steven Soderbergh the director are on top form here. There's also a terrific script from Susannah Grant with so many great lines for Erin. It's also a reminder of the world we live in and how some corporations have total contempt for ordinary people. Not only did Erin play a waitress, but her character's name was Julia. So you had Julia playing Erin and Erin playing Julia. Also the actual Ed Masry played the older gentleman in the booth behind Julia Roberts in the same scene.
Silkwood with Meryl Streep, Cher and Kurt Russell is a great one about a coverup in nuclear power plant. And The Pelican Brief with Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington is a great one. Based on a book by John Grisham.
What makes what P&G did is that Chrome 6 is very easy and cheap to treat. Even if untreated, it is unstable in the environment and will reduce to Cr+3 spontaneously. So, PG&E had to be leaking Cr+6 constantly. It would have only cost them about $50/day to properly treat the waste water.
If your ever in Barstow California and would like to visit the bar/cafe in the movie head south on Hwy 247 (Barstow Road) off interstate 15 for about 10 miles, it's a little off-roaders oasis in the middle of the desert called Slash X Ranch Cafe 28040 Barstow Rd. They have great food, cold drinks and an awesome atmosphere inside the building and out back.
Two similar movies like this are Dark Waters (2019) and Spotlight (2015). Great movies but will make you sick what those people got a way with for so long.
