I heard your mother died Just a few days ago And tears fill your eyes with grief and sorrow Cause you to question why because you don't know If there comes a time when we all, when we all must go [Chorus:] Better off dead, if you're going to believe Better off dead, in some painful (painful) memories Better off dead, for truly you'll be free Then to get down on your knees Can you continue to go on and ignore? A most certain fate you have grown, grown to abhor If what you believe is true And you have no remorse No matter what you do, no matter what you do, Oh, you'll be on, you'll be on the same course [Chorus] Can someone tell me why I'm not better off dead? I no longer deny these thoughts filling my head I'm left to decide for this path I've been led If there's more to life than just death [Solo] [Chorus] It's alright, I'm only bleeding
In a way, this is Extreme's best song. Probably their most unique. It was a mistake not to include this on Punchline. Had this and There Is No God been singles with decent videos rather than Hip Today, that album might have been a success
I always thought this song was amazing. Too bad it didn't make the final cut on "Punchline". I'm pretty sure it is a b-side. I got it when I purchased a collection of rarities called "What the Funk?" off Ebay. "When Will It Rain" is also amazing, as is "Monica".
I love the cd-single released in July 1994. 1. There Is No God (edit) 2. Never Been Funked 3. Better Off Dead. I really thought the album was gonna be great. Only an overlenght version of God was included. Just didn’t enjoy the album (2/95). Some people tried to convince me otherwise because of Nuno’s guitar sound etc. But I love to revisit the sound of Summer ’94 with these tracks mentioned.
@lappado They were left off for the three songs that featured Mangini. Can't remember all of them offhand, but I know Hip Today is one of them. I think Never Been Funked should've stayed, not sure about this though.
@karenIH Sorry, I mixed up "leave me alone" & "don´t leave me alone" . Search on amazon marketplace for second hand CDs. I´ve just ordered there the "tragic comic" and the "there´s no god" singles for only a few €. Maybe I can help you, when the CDs arrive...? Just let me know.
I'd put this great song on the Punchline and replaced Leave Me Alone. There was rumours that Nuno plays drums in this song. Who knows. I don't think it's Mangini atleast. Never Been Funked is another great one and Monica is good considering it was written within 15 minutes in backstage.
THE GUITAR SOUND ON THIS SONG IS THE BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED ON EARTH!!!!
Agreed. And the solo. And the chorus chords....awesome drop D stuff

This is clearly a queenish ballad. Love it.

It was on the album along with never been funked but it got dropped for new songs when Mike came in.
Your voice is really the best I've heard.
A most beautiful gift, he’s so blessed with it

AWESOME!!!
I meant that the rumor is that Nuno played drums on this track.
why this great song was B side?

@NunoFreak
AMEN BROTHER!!!
Why didn’t Gary sound this good on VH III?
Ask Eddie. VH3 is quite possibly the worst mixed record in history.
A donkey produced the album.

Leave Me Alone destroys this song, I am thankful to the band for leaving it off.
@karenIH You can purchase "Leave Me Alone" at amazon.de as single track download for 0,97€ only.
