The only reason why the HX-1 almost beat Airwolf was because String held back. The other pilot knew where his missing brother was and he used that against String. Psychological warfare at its finest.
Love this scene. Reminds me of Top Gun when Maverick disengages and then re-engages. Jan Michael Vincent's minimalist acting ... one simple move of his eyes and you know the HX-1 is going down.
Jan might have been one of the best actors to ever exist. What a sad ending to his career. The tone in his voice while pleading with Mace felt so real. Like you could feel the emotion in being desperate to find his brother. R.I.P. to that legend.
Jan Michael Vincent... what amazing acting here! The tears coming there at the end. Airwolf was always at its best when the personal issues and emotions made the amazing air action secondary to the plot. Bravo!
Hawke wanted to help Mace...during the battle had chances to help Mace despite his onslaught....Hawke saying Mace PLEASE.....and thought back to the war times buddies they were....Dom screaming STRING.....,Super battle.
it was such a shame how they ended the original casting, the backstory of Hawke was brilliant, and the episodes connecting viewers further into his brother, like this one was allways one of the best in the show! How they ended the story with the original cast was just sad...........
It wasn’t necessarily their fault. Seasons 1 & 2 had excellent writing/ direction, but by season 3, our hero (Jan Michael Vincent) had descended into a depth of drug and alcoholism that he could seldom be relied on to deliver his lines. You add that into a weekly show that required its own aerial unit each episode...
@@mattmenefee3889 not to mention that the scripts for season 3 were not that good, plus the departure of Deborah Pratt and her then husband Donald Bellasario's departure didnt help matters.
They've been repeating this on Legend channel in the UK. I'm old enough to recall watching the pilot in 1983!! and JMV as The Worlds Greatest Athlete in '73. Airwolf S1 was OK, S2 introduced Caitlin, focused on more human stories (there was a crash & it looks like they curtailed the air stunts). But by S3 it was becoming formulaic, the Lady would only appear in the final 10 minutes and I've lost count of how many times that little bubble-chopper with massive guns gets blown out of the sky each week. It was obvious the money was running out, choppers are hugely expensive to fly and all the filming helicopters. S4 was an awful reboot, poor Santini blown up (Borgnine was brilliant, he gave the show brevity in contrast to JMV broody String), and what about String finally meeting his long lost brother?. After 3 seasons of searching, String leaves....You'd think he would like to hang around with St John???. S4 physically looks bad too, was it shot on 16mm?. S1-S3 probably 35mm Panavision.
It was a drama that I loved so much during my elementary school days. I could not see it on air, and I could not feel my heart all day long when I went to school.
Yo the sound that Airwolf makes when she's flying at supersonic speed is ridiculous. It sounds so 🔥 dope. It's like a war cry like mofo I'm coming for you
4:40 my favorite emotional part along with the music. String remembering his brother before having to be forced to survive and kill the person who may have had a clue on where he is.
According to the first episode of season 4, The firm knew where sinjin was. They got him out, then he went back undercover. They probably told him about string and airwolf. The only question I have is Why didn't they trade? String gets his brother back and he gives them airwolf.
@@danielmarinucci7708 maybe because String was the best pilot of Airwolf and had returned almost always with a successful mission completed. They wanted to keep on using String, Dom and Caitlin because of their effectiveness in the field with Airwolf.
Everyone I speak to about Airwolf remembers this episode and when they went up against the other Airwolf which was red in places. Both had links to his missing brother
This is one of my more favorite episodes. When String got beat up outside the bar and he saw a figure of a man very blurry, does anybody know was that mace or st. John?
No one can replace Stringfellow Hawke or Dominic Santini no one Jan-Michael Vincent Ernest Borgnine died rest in peace and Godspeed is only one Airwolf
Sad part is, when String finally saw St. John after nearly 10-15 years of wondering if he was still alive, all he could say is "Please don't let me die". RIP String/Jan-Michael Vincent!
Sultuxes They’re fucking awesome! They give it a heavily-armed payload, not to mention a deadly “don’t fuck with me” look, with the missile ordnance on full-display.
Why did Mace not tell String where his brother was and why did he want to shoot him down during that dog fight? I thought String and Mace were war buddies, was there bad blood between them?
I don't remember how the story went. To guess, I think Mace sold out Sinjin to escape. At that point he might have already lost his sanity, but he was undoubtedly off the rails years later. All that was left was a killing machine fueled by hate and anger. Whatever he was was long buried over the years by corpses and ashes piled up by his mercenary Malevolence.
Mace used Hawke as a prop to sell the HX1 and he had bad blood against String because he blamed him for leaving him and Sinjin behind even though the ropes on his chopper were full.
Hawk is too good and dom as well with airwolf it's the best combat helicopter but without airwolf hawk would still beat anyone but of course you need a top helicopter so airwolf comes in.

Well Moffitt blew a French Air Force Mirage out of the skies over Chad. Then he sunk a US Navy Destroyer before Hawk captured it. Best thing about Airwolf was that with the chain guns and missile pod retracted it looks just like an Executive chopper. Very stealthy.

The only reason why the HX-1 almost beat Airwolf was because String held back. The other pilot knew where his missing brother was and he used that against String. Psychological warfare at its finest.
And because Mace wasn’t near as good a pilot as Hawk. The choppers were equally matched but the difference between them was the man in the cockpit.
You are very very right
If String had been focused...it would of been no match!!
