what I admire about Govan is not only his ability to think fast on his feet while improvising but the fact that he can imagine whole musical concepts and landscapes in a matter of seconds.

His microtonal bends and slides are so tastefully good they trip me out. He's the most exciting guitarist to listen to these days. And the cool thing about his solos is that you can listen to them without accompaniment and you can still hear the changes.

Apparently having an opinion isn't allowed. Sorry I prefer guthries actual music over his pointless noodling here. Just jazz wanking, nothing special here.
All he is doing is layering the delay, if you think this is some special "guthrie magic" you are missing the point. If playing noises and simple arpeggiated phrases are whats required to become a guitar god nowadays, sign me up...

  • @alessandrorossini8704

Sensless playing? Who let the dogs out? But first of all: who stole my beer? Does one of the guys here know what Jaco Pastorius usually did during Weather Report concerts looping bass phrases and improvising on it? Ooops! Just jazz wanking, sorry. Maybe, and I stress maybe, Govan is not the Pure Shredders' Defender White Knight but just a gifted 360 degrees musician with a tendency to enjoy shred playing. Maybe. Let's free our minds, let's free Arts from football-like cheer. Just enjoy it.

He's a definitely not a shredder by trade, i don't know who the fuck would think that. Almost everything he plays is jazz/blues influenced. He does play fast at times, but is certainly not a mindless shredder.

When you're ad libbing a loop like this, it's really easy and tempting to use the first note you play as the tonal center. Hence, I really enjoyed the way Guthrie messes with the tonality here. And as always, I love his sense of humor. I think the most important lesson I've learned from Guthrie is to never take yourself too seriously.
