Wow. Regarding his first loop..I'm always blown away when an extremely talented musician (usually with many years of experience) chooses to play such a simple and basic riff/progression.. yet transforms its sound/feeling into something that seems so complex and soulful. When I think of composing a quick loop to jam with, it never crosses my mind to to play a progression using just 2 chords.. and I've never even almost considered using so much silent space between notes to add more depth and emotion, but clearly it's time for me to open my mind to every possibility, think outside the box, and stop feeling so limited to rhythm-heavy loops to [keep the beat]. This guys playing is beautiful.. I'm glad I stumbled across this upload!
Dude. Totally agree. The spaces are the best parts of most songs. Im learning to do that too. David Gilmour is a perfect example of creating amazing emotional swings just with space.
Shredding is the way to go when you have no clue how to play guitar...fast playing is the easy way out. It always has been. Everyone of us can play fast if we just sit down and practice playing fast...its a short route to guitar playing
Great style and tone...and such a complete player... awesome. If we can't have Izzy in the reunion (a real shame) then Richard will definitely keep it interesting.
Someone I admittedly knew little about until seeing him play with GnR a few years ago, have been very impressed since. Also, comes across as a really great guy in his interviews. If it can't be Izzy, I'm more than happy Richard is there! In fact, get all three of them on stage....Slash, Izzy & Richard!
That's a sweet patina on them boots at 11 seconds... super rad jimi hendrix octaves at 1:07, super soulful when hi clicks the overdrive...Just found out about this guy, prolly some of the best phrasing and "space" and note selection I've heard in 15 years. So musical and tasteful its almost like his guitar is singing?
Fortus was in grade school with me, he and another classmate, a Chinese girl, both played the violin. He was really into music back then in 3rd and 4th grade.
Man I would love to try a ditto. I've done nothing but mostly loops and jamming over them on my little channel. All original ideas. Still learning and love it. Great community.
I had one of those Philosopher's Tone compressors. It was just too subtle to use in the way id use a Dyna Comp/keeley type, but for sustain I've literally never used anything that could beat it. When I bought i had no intention of doing it, i actually went in for a Univibe. However i had seen it in an article not long before this so when i saw it i asked to try it. I think i pulled a Classic Vibe Tele off the wall and ran it into a used Blues junior they had out. I hit an open A chord which for some reason i always do, to dial in the amp and pedal, but dropped my pic. I fumbled around blind for it in the floor and it took a while to find it. When i got back up i realized the chord was STILL ringing almost as fully as it had after i strummed it and i did a double take. I heard a noise to my right and when i turned to it i saw 3 other guys by the guitar wall, all looking me and it with a look of confusion on all their faces. One asked "what the hell is THAT?!" I'm not even sure if i said what it exactly was, i just said it's my new compressor. This has to be well over a decade ago and it was the first time i ever tried parallel compression, i had a Sparkle Drive so i was familiar with the concept. I still use it from time to time but only for sustain, and usually clean sustain. It's really good for that Eric Johnson clean sustain when you have to play at lower volume.
+Thanh Mac that is a load of bollocks. I kind of like Slash, but he's a one trick pony, he is nowhere near the top 20 guitar players in terms of creativity and impact.
+Thanh Mac AFD was a great album, and Use your Illusion had some good songs. That is about it, though. As a guitar player, Slash is very good, but he is a bit of a one-trick pony, and nowhere near the top 20 in terms of creativity and impact. Meaning I can list 25 players easily who are more important and more creative than Slash. (and yeah, I play guitar myself for like 34 years now and know what I'm talking about)
His midshow solo at the G n R shows makes me believe he is actually the Greatest Guitarist Alive. Utterly stunning shred to chicken pickin in 0 to 60,amazing. The Guy is a musical Prodigy.
I think a lot more know now tho,he sure blows Slash off the Stage! Must be so hard for him to pull back and play more chilled and less technical for Slash to shine.
I am sure he blow some licks until he is blue in the face like many top players but I like how he let's the music breath. Nice sense of space. Great music with very little ego in it.
Dante Phoenix chet (CGP) Atkins would've been finger picking the root on the bottom strings while doing the major runs, I think. Plus a lot more stuff I can't do. :) his playing was just a soulful choice to add something different to the solo. He's a beast, for sure.
WOW!!! GNR needs to let him do more solos!!! Amazing feeling!
This is honestly one of the most beautiful tunes I've ever heard. So ... pure.

Richard has definitely become one of my favorite guitarists
I do not hear this; I FEEL this. Awesome! What an incredible guitarist!
Dude, I got chills watching him play. You can really see these musicians talent and creativity with guitar loopers.
Very tasteful leads. You can hear Clapton and Hendrix in those bends and double stops. Proof once again that shredding is not always the way to go.
verdade! very good!
nobody said shred was the only way to go -.-
Shredding is the way to go when you have no clue how to play guitar...fast playing is the easy way out. It always has been. Everyone of us can play fast if we just sit down and practice playing fast...its a short route to guitar playing
Almost never
IMO it's rarely the way to go.
A lot of feel and soul!
I would buy this CD ! I could listen to this for hours .... Richard is an Amazing player. One of my top 3. wow !!!
Great style and tone...and such a complete player... awesome. If we can't have Izzy in the reunion (a real shame) then Richard will definitely keep it interesting.
Probably the sweetest piece of music if ever heard
This guy and Richie Faulkner are really keeping rock alive!
The best guitarist on the planet right now. Saw him live, totally blown away... this is absolutely beautiful.
Always enjoyed Richard's playing and style. Tasty!
Brilliant musician !! amazing runs !! Flawless !!!
Killer, the feeling the vives, the unussual lines, awesome clean tone!
Really great playing - WOW this is iconic!
That was some tasty playing, very emotive and great tone too.
This was absolutely beautiful.

That would be emotionally cool
truly inspiring. bought that looper because of this video. it works

Man, what a beautiful player!
My all time favourite guitarist after Slash. Absolutely love his tone, cool guy also so it's seems.
What a guitar player this guy is the real deal
Talk about a work of art. That was beautiful.
Hands down the best guitar player suited for gnr
Nope. Thats slash
***** of course, besides Slash.
agreed
Fortus was in grade school with me, he and another classmate, a Chinese girl, both played the violin. He was really into music back then in 3rd and 4th grade.

Haven't heard him played before, he's pretty good ! And he obviously has nice taste regarding gear ! Lovely guitar and amp !
Got chills man
Thanks Mr. Fortus, just ordered one of these, I'll be playing like you in a few weeks, lol.
great playing 😊
The longest member of Guns N Roses
Not really. That would be Axl. Dizzy would be second.
Great playing really soulful! Love it!
beautiful tone and great technique
Have to get one of these!! Great Playing! Great Demo!!
Great musician. Perfect fit for GNR
Can't wait to hear what him slash n duff come up with in the studio. Richard is a great guitarist n him n Slash play well off each other live
Man I would love to try a ditto. I've done nothing but mostly loops and jamming over them on my little channel. All original ideas. Still learning and love it. Great community.

Richard is such an amazing guitar player.
A style all his own..........great stuff!
So underrated this guy
Rich is not only an amazing guitarist but a really cool Dude . True fucking Rockstar
Glad Ashba and Bumble are gone, talented in their own ways but not for GNR. Would love to see this guy play with Slash!!!!
That happened :D
^They're great of course, but it was Slash and the Conspirators that got me started listening
to rock
too true!
+Thanh Mac that is a load of bollocks. I kind of like Slash, but he's a one trick pony, he is nowhere near the top 20 guitar players in terms of creativity and impact.

I saw him live in chicago with GNR yesterday. I absolutely agree. Its not fair to him that most rock fans have no idea who he is
I think a lot more know now tho,he sure blows Slash off the Stage! Must be so hard for him to pull back and play more chilled and less technical for Slash to shine.
Does anyone think that he looks like Izzy Stradlin?
Josh Edillon no. Anyone
Josh Edillon yeah, I agree with you he reminds me of Izzy
OK I'm seeing the Penguin...from Gotham...
That sounds like Izzy too :)
maybe a little bit of Rod Stewart too
Hi just could play this video again and again !
🎈🎈👍👍so talented. Example of making something of yourself through dedication, discipline, hard work. Bravo Richard.!
Beautiful !
Hey, when your in a groove..and your feet come off the ground! (2:07) man Its all good.
sick sick sick playing and tone
what a cracking tone !!
nice tone man... gee!
Una bestia absoluta, genio
I am sure he blow some licks until he is blue in the face like many top players but I like how he let's the music breath. Nice sense of space. Great music with very little ego in it.
Friggin awesome job
I love you! 💟💟💟😻😻😻
My favorit guitarist
Richard Fortus Is Awesome!!!
It is a James Trussart SteelOMatic with reverse headstock and ( probably ) Arcane Inc. pickups.
Wow, I never knew Adrien Brody was that good on guitar!
Definitely a James Trussart reverse headstock strat, and yes arcane pick ups, soooo KILLER
What a solo...at heart all the WAY
Awesome tone!
very cool guitar
Beautiful
who cares what he looks like cool player
Sensacional !!!!
“Golden rose...the color of a dream I had.....”
One of the best.... Fortus
Amazing!
Holy crapadoodle, his playing style and choice of notes is SO similar to Buckethead's.
Northernmight are u serious? :D
i hear alot of hendrix in his playing i dont know where u got buckethead from
+Northernmight no way. I don't hear any Buckethead in this. More Hendrix.
amazing sound.
You seem to prefer the Ditto Looper over the TC Flashback Looper! I always have trouble with my Flashback Looper.
Anyone know what brand that guitar is?
que Grande el Richard, a demostrado ser un guitarrista muy versatil : )
pero más bien..
Eso si. A Mi, personalmente me agrada ese Tipo.
Por cierto... A 8 Reguetoneros no les gusta su Estilo... xd
LOVED IT!!! i would actually buy that single, if it went out, how is this looper compared to boss rc20xl or rc30xl mostly soundwise ??
Fantastic.
So sweet!!!! Thank you.
Wow, what an awesome jam.....and that guitar is just amazing. Who makes that?
James Trussart.
it reminds me of a james trussart guitar i think, luxxtone look more classic distressed fender to me upon quick inspection. sure TC know any how.
great feel .
What is used to switch to different guitar tones?
this guys amazing live
what kind of wood is that neck?
Awesome. Where are those finger-picked major runs coming from? Is that a Chet Atkins thing?
Dante Phoenix chet (CGP) Atkins would've been finger picking the root on the bottom strings while doing the major runs, I think. Plus a lot more stuff I can't do. :) his playing was just a soulful choice to add something different to the solo. He's a beast, for sure.
a BIG WOW!!! 🎸🎶
kevin what a weird thing to say...whats his hair got to do with that great guitar playing?
Is there a tab for this somewhere? It's so beautiful.
its pretty slow. Just listen to it and learn it. no need for a tab
John Gregory I like your style. Back that needle up!
You Go Richard Fortus!
amazing
He deserved to be in Gun n Roses
Why do many GNR die hards consider Gilby a true member of the band but not Richard?
He gas third longest tenure!
He wrote most of the songs we know
@@stevedahl Lmao! You gotta be joking. Gilby has not written a single GNR song. In fact, he has only written two songs his entire career.
@@stevedahlNo no no....Gilby is not Izzy
