Classic Benzes all the way until early 2000s are the best. Respectfully, please don’t say “old” Mercedes are bad cars. I fix and restore Classic German cars. I’ll never buy a brand new car in my life and I’ll drive these amazing cars for the rest of my life. I’ve had an amazing W210 for 6 years till I sold it to my friend. That car was awesome and super smooth. Yes, I’ve put lots of love to it to make it great because it was neglected. I replaced front and rear suspension parts, did some engine gaskets, belt and belt tensioner, water pump, spark plugs, crank position sensor, trans service with filter, gasket, new trans fluid, new diff fluid, driveshaft flex discs and center support, trans mount etc. It currently has about 350k miles and hasn’t broken down for the last 100k miles that my friend has been driving it.
Also, it’s not just Mercedes that need love and care. Other makes break down too. I just recently had to replace a brake assist (acts as a main master cylinder) on a Prius. The car had no brakes whatsoever. And the part costs over $1000. Just because you think you’re gonna save money buying Prius, think twice 🤣
Anyways, if you’re interested , I make videos about Classic Mercedes and BMWs and some other cars. I love those cars to death. You should get into Classic German cars. They’re really amazing. If you’ve never driven a Mercedes W140, W124 or W126, you’re really missing out on an amazing quality that was offered back when people built normal cars

200,000 miles on my 97 C230 with the 722.6 transmission and never had a problem. The key is regular maintenance like changing the trans fluid every 50,000 miles.

I just spent a reasonable amount of $ on replacement of all catalytic converters when my mechanic said the check engine light on my 2005 E350 Merc indicated it was necessary. Could the check engine light have been cleared, without coming back on again, and I could just have driven on no probs because this issue would not have affected performance?
