I was posted at a site once where the CSO wasn't making his rounds at site close and on a number of occasions propane tanks weren't shut off. With the faulty extension cords littering the place, it's no wonder the site went up in flames. Possibly something similar in this vid with how raging the flames seemed to be.
I don't know anything about building code in BC/Canada nor how far they were into construction, but could it have been cladding that amplified the fire?
The Vancouver Firefighters, the Vancouver Police, EHS, and BC Hydro were all absolutely amazing in containing a fire that could have been far more catastrophic ! ! ! Thank-you to all the First Responders! ! 💖
5-6 story wooden buildings are being built all over the city. This Would not be allowed anywhere, but this is Vancouver, City run by developers. It’s regrettable but true.
@@zlatkostevanovic5891 It's fire-treated wood and the designs were signed off on by structural engineers. I've worked on many similar buildings, and none of them caught fire during or after the construction process. There was definitely at least gross negligence here, if it wasn't outright sabotage.
@@zlatkostevanovic5891 Wood is cheaper and more versatile than concrete/steel, and Canada has great building code enforcement to ensure safety for occupants in a completed wood apartment building (fire blocking in framing, rated walls encased in gypsum, sprinklers, fire alarm, etc.). We need better enforcement of construction fire safety though, clearly.
Sometimes those clear worker abandoned water bottles left at a certain fullness and if placed in the perfect place will concentrate sunlight like a magnifying glass....just saying!
Wow! I would never wanted to live in a just wood structure so high. It is matter of few minutes before the fire engulfs the whole building, not so safe.
Smells like an insurance scam. Those flames were raging on in a whole different way than a regular house/building fire. Given the market downturn due to costs and economic woes the builder wanted out.
We've built several hundred such buildings since restrictions on height were relaxed in 2009. I worked on several myself along the Cambie corridor after the Canada line went in. Once the drywall is in and the sprinkler systems are working, wood-framed apartments are perfectly safe, as noted by the fact that structural engineers have to always sign off on building projects. Problems like these almost always happen due to negligence from the general contractor, or rarely outright fraud. WorkSafe will be having a good long audit of the builder and hopefully we can learn some things so this won't happen again.
@@wc4109 If drywall is being installed they'd have propane heaters running, and propane stored on site. They also keep fuel for machines on hand.
