Makes me miss my old 85 4runner. Sold it 12 years ago so my wife and I could get our first apartment together in college. Bone stock sr5 manual, 22re with factory straight axle. Had well over 300k miles on it. I've been debating on an rc4wd 4runner for a long time now. Great video 👍👍
My first crawling truck is my 87 Toyota standard cab that I solid axle swapped and installed the TRD elockers front and rear. It sits on 35s and has made it through the Rubicon. I only wish I'd either gone double cases or did the 4.7 tcase gears. I have fuel injection for it that I need to install. It runs good with the carb but just runs out of power at high altitude and it doesn't like some of the steeper angles
1990 Jeep Cherokee was my 1st off-roader. Traded it in on my 2005 LJ in 2005. It had 265,000 miles on it when I traded it. Running strong. I miss that thing.
My first offroader was my first car. A 1983 FJ40. Unfortantly there was way to much rust in it for me to deal with. I still regret selling it now I have the time and skills to deal with the body damage. Alot of that truck made its way into my current FJ40 to get that up and running.
Make a ESC mount on the rear part of the chassis and cut a hole the body to clear the ESC then print or make a tool box, speaker box, etc.. to cover the ESC. That would allow you to use the new RC4WD 22RE engine. Did you ever change foams? Crawler Innovations makes a dual stage specifically for the 1.7 wheek/tire combo on the Marlin. They help stop the tire from folding over on side hills and turns. Great videos, really enjoy watching you run the Marlin/4Runner.
Love the background story to this rig and a little bit of your 1:1 history too. I'm really enjoying all your videos lately, great to see someone just out there having a good time without all the fancy editing etc. Take care and as you say "keep the rubber side down".
Great looking build man! I would highly suggest you add a little brass to the front end of it though. It really helps heavy bodied trucks perform. Great vid man!👍🤙
Nice video love the 4-Runner and toyotas. I run 4.19 Super Swampers and 4.30 Hyrax on my TF2 and they work awsome couldn't be happier. You won't be sorry going to the smaller tire. Also the tire that comes with the TF2 kit work really well for a small tire after a little break in. Did a 4hr enduro with them and had no problems keeping up with the bigger tired rigs. Good luck, let us know how you like the smaller tires.
Haha oh yeah mine was plenty slow. My buddy had the auto and amazingly it was even slower lol. Floored you couldn’t keep up with traffic flow. But those gutless 22RE just don’t die
I just got the midnight edition a few weeks ago and couldn’t deal with the tiny tires . I only upgraded a little bit with some pitbull pbx hardcore tires , they are 4.05 tall . Kind of a sweet spot and the foams they come with are pretty firm which is nice . It made a huge improvement to my truck today . I was inspired by your videos seeing how capable your marlin is to get a slightly bigger tire .
Very interesting! Honestly I want 3.8 mostly for the look. They are more proportional especially to what my real 4Runner looked like. But I do like the clearance of the 4.19
I am also a yota guy. I have a few hilux rc comp trucks, the fj HPI, and a marlin tf2. I like a nice licensed Toyota RC. My current Tacoma is a 2010 with 33s 4door TRD offroad... I live in Northern Colorado and frequently visit UT when we are snow covered and it's not like Satan's asshole on a Wednesday morning after going out to a taco Tuesday dinner....
Looking good, bud. Nice to hear the backstory on your old runner. I think the heavier body will help improve your driving skills tremendously. Keep at it and take notes. Before adding more weight to help with cog, I highly recommend clocking the motor if you haven't done it. It's free and will only improve performance in every aspect. Aloha!
RC4WD now makes a O/D transfer for the TF2. I think there is 3 different O/D ratios that can be ran by installing different combinations of the included gears,

Its even more fun and scale when you share a true history with one of your trucks 👌 well done mate
Dude going to miss the pickup, But I do love the 4runner. Lets find you a 1:1 again so we can do full size wheeling!
That does sound fun!
Hi! A funny Story... Two Brother and her Cars... Thumbs up, nice! 😎
Thanks!

That’s a ton of miles for an LJ, I’m impressed
I misspoke. The Cherokee had that many miles on it when I traded it in.
Have a good one. 👍

That’s an awesome first off roader!
Those old 4runners were sweet!!! Looks amazing on those rocks!!!🤘🤘🤘
There’s a few clips that I was surprised how good it looked haha

Love your story. Just finished an FJ build, but would love to do one to match my own FJ. That 4R body is sooo nice.
Nice! I know they have a good looking FJ out there somewhere. Maybe HPI?
@@westdesertwheeler That's the one I built. Just doesn't match mine... Thinking of building the Tamiya CC-01 FJ body on something as my mini clone.

Thanks so much, yeah it is all about just having a good time with these! Thanks for watching 🤘🏼

Thanks! I do run weights in the tires which help. More in the front than back but still it’s pretty top heavy
The beautiful red rocks! Sharp looking 4 runner!
Thanks so much, I love the area

I agree the RTR tires work great. I’m thinking of dropping to 3.8” diameter
Great video loved the story really like your channel and videos
You need to get the RC4WD 22RE engine bay/motor cover!
Tinytrucks.com has the lower geared LRT2 Tcase and trans for the TF2. I believe it has a front overdrive option.
Years ago I had the same 86" red on red 4runner but with the dog-omatic. Slowest Toyota I ever had... Nice video

You can see so much more flex in the rear tires. She is a heavy girl .
Yeah I may have to beef up the foams
Man this thing is sharp. Great looking scale rig
Thanks! It’s a little rough but I’m liking it!
78 Chevy short box on 36’s.
Dude this build is awesome 😎 I love it
🤘🏼🤘🏼
Love watching your videos they look awesome

Thanks man, I’ve definitely looked into clocking it but just not sure that’s the solution for what I want out of it. Thanks!
I never would have sold that full size 4Runner......
Buy the class 0 BFG crawler tires from proline they would be the perfect fit... I have a set and they perform amazingly
I ended up buying 3.80 duratracs since that’s what my truck had
Rc4wd makes a scale engine bay now 👍🏻👍🏻
What did it take to mount the 4 runner body to the Marlin Chassis?
Nice!! Keep up the videos bro!!
Thanks bud
you did good trading things and too bad you didn't keep your real truck that a bummer other wise it a great truck
Nah I liked the vehicle I sold it for more than the runner
I’m local and I’ve got a 4runner hardbody rig too. Let’s take em out sometime 🤘🏼
Right on, we will have to figure out a time to go
Do they make overdrive gears for the RC4WD’S?
The transfer case can be flipped for a ton of overdrive (40%) but I’m not that worried for this truck
@@westdesertwheeler Thanks! That’s too much for me too.
RC4WD now makes a O/D transfer for the TF2. I think there is 3 different O/D ratios that can be ran by installing different combinations of the included gears,
Z-U0039 you can choose 5 ratios from 27-67 percent.
89 D50
That’s an awesome little truck!
I like both but have only owned a real jeep.
