      I’m happy you can easily recover but saying “you just have to fight hard and want to recover.” Is kinda rude to people who are really struggling with recovering. It’s not just food intake that has to change it’s a mindset that has to change too.

    Correction: More than half of people who die from eating disorders, die from suicide. These numbers might be higher since many people might go undiagnosed if they're not visibly symptomatic.

    Kati, I want to thank you so much for all of your videos. I had a pretty rough childhood that only got worse with time. Long story short, I recently went to a therapy intensive for two weeks that completely changed my life. Like you, they were so understanding, soft spoken, and willing to strongly nudge me in the right direction. It was very difficult to discuss certain things, but they were just so empathetic. I love to help other and that's a large part of why I'm heading into the medical field. After the intensive I almost want to become a therapist.
    Midway through my second week I became terrified that I wouldn't end up maintaining everything I had learned and improved about my emotional health. They helped me develop a plan to ensure I would continue in the right direction as well as what to do if I started slipping. I chanced upon your videos, and am now hooked. I've added your videos to my list of things to keep me in the right frame of mind. I plan to watch several videos a day until I have watched them all, yeah that will take a while. I hope (know) that your videos will keep me positive and planted in good emotional health until it becomes second nature to me. Thank you again, Seth

    I found your channel a few months ago when I started attending counselling sessions and it has really helped me. I have always suffered from anxiety but a few years ago it started affecting my relationship with food. I still don't fully know why it happened but I started to feel like I had a lump in my throat and became fearful of choking on my food. This eventually meant that I started restricting my food intake and lost a lot of weight. When I first started going to counselling sessions I genuinely thought I didn't have an eating disorder, however, since watching your ED videos I have started to realise that I actually do. This realisation has enabled me to start getting better and deal with the irrational fear that has controlled my life for far too long. Thank you for your informative and supportive videos :) x

    I went through all that and recovered about two years ago without my parents or doctor ever knowing. Sadly, I got really good at lying. Please, if you can, do what Kati said and see your doctor. I had to make my willpower work in the opposite direction and force myself to eat a reasonable amount. I also watched RUclips documentaries to scare myself into recovering. It was scary, but I got really lucky because it worked, even though I relapsed once. I was too scared to tell anyone until just last year, and then I told someone I trust for safety in case I relapsed again. I haven’t. I am so glad that more people have resources like this channel so they don’t have to be completely alone. Thanks, Kati, for all you do.

    Thank you for this video! I struggled for 15 years by myself, and then I went to residential treatment. I learned the tools to regulate some of there thoughts in my mind but I did not learn how to connect to my body or to my spirit. It wasn't until I started making art and using creative outlets that I truly started to uncover my authentic voice. ED had been so loud that I didn't know who I was. I went on to study and research eating disorders in my Masters Degree, and today I help women to connect to their authentic voice using creativity as an add on to their care team.

    How to Disappear Completely by Kelsey Osgood and Gaining: Life after ED by Amy Lei were both really amazing for me. I love how they talk about EDs from a different perspective. Not a book I would recommend for someone first starting out (they're not workbooks) but I just found them really helpful in learning why I acted the way I did and ways to move on from that.

    i feel like crying
    i gave myself an eating disorder, never told anyone, and now i'm going through recovery also not telling anyone
    recovery has had such high ups and such low downs (today was a low). and since i haven't told anyone, all my family sees is me gaining 40+ pounds, and i know they're judging. my mom had an eating disorder for 10 years and the fact that she's stayed silent and even made a comment about my weight and eating is just so .. disappointing.
    i feel like crying.
    i have no one.
    i'm out of the thick of it and i know it's just a bad day today, but kati bringing up the 3rd point makes my heart break because it's how it should be and so ideal but i'm just not letting myself have that

    I’ve had anorexia for 29 years now; I’m currently 45. There is NO coverage for adequate eating disorder treatment available to someone like me who has been forced to go on medical disability due to this disorder. This illness has ruined every aspect of my life (no relationship, no meaningful job, osteoporosis, early-onset menopause, severe malnutrition…). I’m beyond sickened by the system in place to help those like me. We are really still in the dark ages of eating disorder treatment.

    Tips for EDNOS with BULIMIC tendencies recorvery:
    1. Everthing Kati said in this video! of course!
    2.Eat like a healthy person every day, that willl help with that craving and also helps your metabolism! Be prepared for bloating at the beginning :/
    3. All that binge food - don't have it at home! If you're lving alone only buy f.e. choclate in either small proportians or not at all - for people who don't live alone: Ask your parent/whoever to not buy much of it or store it out of your sight
    4.Try to think: Stop! and actualy try to stop while binging - at the beginning, you will think this probably very late or afterwards but the more you train this the better you will get at stopping earlier in your binging or at some point you'll be able to stop yourself before and never ever think "oh well i already startet..." bc even if you purge afterwards, it'll be less
    These things are helping me (but I'm also in therapy bc of PTBS) maybe they are helpful for you too
    ...sorry for my bad english its not my native language)

    #KatiFAQ Hello Kati, I've been seeing my therapist for a little more than a month, but I don't... Is it normal for therapist to stay in silence for almost a minute (I've count it) or have to re-say the question many times because he is not sure how to say it?. I also feel kind of restricted because when I tell him something about my childhood that I think was a background for my mental illness, he just push it aside and I feel like it is not as important as I thought. What should I do, should I change for another therapist (he is a therepist in my college, he is an MA, LPC) or should I stay?

      Hey I'm in a recovery right now and the most important thing about recovery is to understand that it's okay to eat and gain weight, because at the moment you're not yourself it's only your ed, and I always thought that I would love myself and be more confident when I'm going to be underweight but the truth is no I won't
      I will be confident when I'm going to forgive and get myself back. About bulimia I know that the guilt is pressuring
      but remember it doesn't matter if you binged or you just ate and now you're regretting it, the only way food has to go from is anus, not your mouth. I know that other people words doesn't really mean anything but keep in mind that you have to accept the fact that you will gain weight, even though it sounds horrific and you have to forgive your self and love yourself, YOU'RE the only person who can make recovery happen, other people are just a support💗💗 Keep going! Hey Kati, I have no idea if you will ever see this, but I have been struggling with bulimia on and off for the majority of 2020. I cant afford counseling and I've had to be admitted to the ER multiple times due to complications from the disorder. I was wondering if that free workbook you talked about in this video still exists? The link in the description is dead and I couldn't find any links to it on your website. I think it might be able to help me get started at beating this thing, because I obviously can't do it on my own for an extended period of time. Thank you!

    I wish I had seen this video years ago! I somehow managed to recover from ed by myself but this would have helped me a lot! Especially the workbook part. By the way, I wanted to ask you (or anybody who would like to answer!) a thing... do you think it would be useful to see a therapist even after years of having "recovered"? I feel like I have never really fully recovered from my ed or self-harm, and I feel like it would maybe be useful? I don't know...

    Dear Kati,
    I'm feeling like I want to cry or have a knot in my stomach quiet often recently. But I have nothing excapt things to be happy about and I'm doing great. So is this feeling a feeling of happiness? How do you recognise when that overwhelming feeling is just happiness and not something else? Please help.

    Can you do a video talking about Binge Eating Disorder? I have it and it makes me feel terrible every day, but the only time anyone mentions bingeing is in relation to bulimia or purging, which I have been able to keep myself from doing. It is hard to find information on this disorder, can you help?

    I'm pregnant and have had an issue with bulimia for 7 years. I'm a healthy weight now but I constantly slip back into it, randomely. It has caused rosacea on my cheeks, hair loss, chest pains. I want to stop. I'm finally ready to not even think of that as an option anymore. This is hard.

    'the bulimia help method' by richard kerr is brilliant. they have a website and you can subscribe to them for personal support too. or you can buy the book and work through their best found recovery methods. its simple and logical and works inline with the UK NHS eating disorder service methods.

    It's so hard the fact I try to seek help on RUclips from people who had anorexia and they have this wonderful for body, when others like me gained the weight back and it went everywhere. To try to lose weight because either you gained a whole lot of you just feel unhealthy so you try to lose the weight. That leads to "diet." And etc it's so difficult to deal with when you are alone

      +Kati Morton (Mental Health Vlogger) Awesome! I don't know if this will help or not but I feel like maybe, in my experience at least, that people with panic disorder and OCD are more likely to have health anxiety. Because of panic disorder with the racing heart and hyperventilating that we truly believe we have some kind of problem with our heart, etc., so we freak out over any physical problem we have. And OCD makes us obsess over it. However, I do know someone who has health anxiety not because of panic attacks or OCD but because of being wrongfully diagnosed with cancer a couple years ago. Not sure if that helped or not but good luck on your research! Thanks for the reply xoxo.

    #KatiFAQ Hey Kati, here's my question.I used to confide in my teacher about my abuse and self harm urges. She doesn't teach my class anymore and we never ever meet because I'm in a higher school now and whenever I try to contact her she does not talk to me. She says I should get out of these things and stop talking to her now. It's been almost a year and I cannot let go. I feel like giving up on life because I cannot live without her. I cannot study, I cannot write. She was the only person I trusted and now I have nobody. What should I do to show her that I really love and need her? I can't go on like this. :(

    I’ve been struggling for years. If I really think about it it’s been like half my life. (I’ve commented on your videos before) I’ve been thinking about recovery lately. A lot of it has come from Alanis Morissette and her talking about her story. I want to keep my toxic family out of this and I’m almost 18 so hopefully when i go on my own I can cut them out and get the help I know I need, but still am very unsure I deserve.

    I love you Kati! I've been watching your videos every night for a month and for some reason they always make me cry. But I usually feel better afterwards! I've been struggling with depression, self harm and bulimia (all self diagnosed) and I don't want to ask for help because I'm not 100%
    sure whether I'm just making my problems up or not... Plus I really don't want my parents finding out - this isn't really a question but just seeing if anyone can relate I guess?

    • @imaginareality
      @imaginareality 8 лет назад

      +Sara Simpson Hi Sara. I can relate to the whole not knowing wether it's really a problem and not wanting people (parents) to find out. But I think - and this may sound harsh - that part of this is just an excuse because we are scared of what might happen if we decide to reach out. Because if we do, things are gonna change. And they don't always change the way we want them to, it can make us feel vulnerable. But I'd say that in the end, we are always better off than when we keep struggling in secret.
      If you selfharm, then that's always a problem. There's no line there, no "I only do it once a month/I only do it a little bit". If you do it and it causes you pain (physically and/or mentally) then you deserve to get better. You are not making you problems up! Why would you do that and how would that even work?
      Anyways, I really hope that you find the support you need and can overcome this! Sending some love and virtual hugs from Germany :-)

      I can totally relate! I'm pretty bad lately to the point that I don't even leave my bed anymore at all and I also kinda dropped out of school. Even though I'm getting worse and worse , I really don't wanna talk to anyone. I just can't talk to anyone. I could never imagine actually reaching out for help. I never asked for help and it's just I'm just weird I guess? I don't want anyone to know what it looks like in my mind? I also think I've got depression but I guess it started in my early childhood already? So yea also got a lot of stuff going on. So yea I can totally relate to you!

      +imaginareality thank you so much for replying - you don't know how much better just that has made me feel. And you're right - I'm terrified that things are going to change and that people will judge me. And in a weird way I do feel like my self harm isn't enough... Anyway thanks so much for replying and hugs back! You may have just got me one step closer to asking for help 💩💩 Would be better if my parents didn't have to find out about it though 😬😬

      +katharina kretschmer thank you for replying! I feel the same way - the only thing that keeps me getting out of bed is having quite strict parents and as I don't really want them to know I drag my self up. Altough I personally can't give you any advice it's strangely always nice to know someone's in the same boat and I definitely want you to feel better soon 😘

    • @sarasimpson760
      @sarasimpson760 8 лет назад

      +fea alei thanks so much for replying - honestly your the advice was quite hard to read because I've been trying to tell my self I can get through this my self or at least hold on until I'm out of school like you so my parents don't have to know - but it's fucking hard (sorry) 😭. I'm tired constantly (like you), I feel hopeless, like nothing will ever get better and what's the point anyway if I'm just going to die in the end, and I hate myself and eugh sorry to bore you with a big list. Nevertheless, some part of me knows what you're saying is true and I need to ask for help (random question... Do you ever feel like there's two parts of you? - a kind of 'good' part and a 'bad' part - it's not like I have voices in my head but when the 'bad' part takes over is when the low times hit)

    Hello it's been 15 years since I have had an eating disorder but my body isn't recovering due to my thyroid. As a a teenager I was very obese but went on a diet when I was 21 and got obsessed with losing too much weight which led to anorexia and bulimia. Fast forward 15 years later I don't have any eating disorders now but the body feels like it's starving even though I eat plenty of food. I take medication for my underactive thyroid but it's not helping. It's been really frustrating for 15 years. I have recovered mentally from my eating disorder but the body keeps going backwards and now my metabolism is out of whack and I'm always hungry. I live in Australia and no doctors understand why I feel like I’m starving all the time.

  • @user-dn3dh8hd4i

    i have been curious about this for some time, what happens when someone who have an eating disorder end up in hospital, maybe he/she broke her leg and need a cast, the doctor found out he/she have an eating disorder and have been under-nutrition for sometime , what will happen? do the get send to see the therapist first or do they get send to see the dietitian first? Me and my friends are discussing this during lunchtime and they think that force feeding is the best immediate action and after being nutritionally stable then send the patient to the therapist, i think that that will just cause more harm than good

    • @katgolightly8816
      @katgolightly8816 8 лет назад

      Maybe it would depend on what the person's electrolytes were, how 'off' they were, if the broken bone was maybe caused by the malnutrition. I'm a nursing student, so I definitely don't know everything- but if the patient is physically unstable and they are in my care, we HAVE to treat the physical problems (unless you refuse or leave against medical advice). If that was my patient and the doctor ordered a feeding tube, I would be calling for a psych consult, maybe even a child life specialist if it was a young teen to help me explain things so the process wouldn't be traumatic. Hospitals also have therapists on call 24/7, but they aren't long term therapists- more like they assess the patient then give the medical team their recommendations. Hope this helps some! It is an interesting question!

      +K Golight it is very insightful, thank you. i am in a diploma course that combined food science and nutrition. my lecturer is more focus on disease like liver, renal failure, than on eating disorder. so i don't really get to learn how eating disorder is handled in the hospital

    I don’t know if I’m ready because it’s hard. And I don’t have any support other than my best friend but she lives across the country. (Don’t get me wrong she’s helped immensely by being an outlet of that makes sense). I don’t want to tell my family because I they will guilt trip me n it’s a whole other thing.
