Some americans are trying to claim the harrier is an american invention, they do this by saying the av- 8 b is american aircraft with some new design features. It is not an american aircraft, any one can modify a plane but the basic design etc is based on a british one. To take take credit where its not due is dishonesty and theft. All planes go through variants, there were many variants of the mustang and the brits had a big hand in that but it was still an american aircraft. The spifire had about 14+ variants which improved over time but it was still the spitifire. The same with the Av-8B its still a harrrier and that plane is briitsh whether americans like it or not.
isn't it very very sad that we the British designed this great aircraft, upgraded it and then GAVE to the Yanks for NOTHING! We then had to take the crappy F35A that couldn't even hover properly and would overheat! A shit copy of OUR BAe Harrier GR8/9!! The F35 pilot can't even see out of his cockpit and has a blind spot at the rear! Why the F. do we have to take crappy Yank aircraft like the Chinook, the Apache and rebuild them ourselves to make them work properly??? I met FW Fozzard the chief designer of Harrier in the 1970's, and he told me that the Harrier would be GIVEN to the USA. The USA destroyed Concorde, the TSR2 program too.. Why? because the Yanks could not compete with our engineers and technicians.
"isn't it very very sad that we the British designed this great aircraft"(sic) Incorrect. The Brits had little to nothing to do with the Harrier II, abandoning the project from 1975 - 1981 returning only after McDonnell Douglas had completed the redesign and Thatcher had become PM. "and then GAVE to the Yanks for NOTHING!"(sic) The United States paid $180,000,000 for 72 sets of parts that the UK was never going to use again. "We then had to take the crappy F35A"(sic) The UK doesn't operate the A. You obviously attended the dysfunctional state controlled indoctrination camps - aka public schools.
@@daveeagle4073 The Harrier is an ingenious design of British engineering. As an American I am proud we borrowed it and enhanced into the Harrier II. There was no good reason for RAF to retire and I'm going to be really sad when US Marines retire theirs.
