      Thanks for the positive comments. I literally just got this delivered yesterday.
      Wacaco have the pressure gauge posted on their official webpage, but they only have limited stock at the moment.
      Same as us dealers, we were only allowed a limited amount of stock, so i was pretty lucky to pick some up.

    I guess Wacaco decided to turn it into a nice, portable, budget home setup. Generally, it's advertised as a camping and outdoor setup, but come on, who will drink an espresso out in the woods? I've always considered it as a budget, small size home machine, with some extras, such as ability to use it on work and if you're not at home.
    I'm also pretty sure that they plan to release their own ims basket, it was advertised some time ago, along with this gauge and stand.

      Yes i also agree with you, the Picopresso can be more appealing to people who want a more portable Espresso maker, but too be honest i have taken mine out maybe 4 or 5 times and after the novelty of posing with it, its just too much like a chore to a lazy bugger like me.
      Too be fair, the Picopresso is a lot more portable than the Flair Pro, i also have one of those and every time i take it out i have to set it up and people think that i am setting up some kind weapon.
      Wacaco talked about releasing the 18g IMS basket several months ago, the same time that they said that they will release the pressure gauge, i have a feeling that they are just about to announce the release of their IMS basket either just before Christmas, or early to mid January.
      As soon as they do release that i will get some to review and post a video here.

    Also, a good budget grinder for something like Pico, seems to be the standart JE. Good burrs, flavor profile seems to be rather sweet, small and has an okay adjustment.

    • @mightymightyironhead
      @mightymightyironhead  9 месяцев назад

      The Picopresso uses a Slow flow basket, so its a little more forgiving than a regular None pressurised precision basket, so you can get away with using a grinder with slightly bigger microns than you would with a regular none pressurised basket.
      Wacaco also released their own grinder, the Exagrind and that grinder has a whopping 33 micron grind adjustments, that's 3 more microns bigger than the Comandante C40, 8 more microns bigger than the 1Zpresso Q2, 11 microns bigger than the 1Zpresso K-Pro and K-Max. 13 more than the 1Zpresso K-Ultra.
      All of these grinders are considered Pour over grinders and not really suitable for proper Espresso, so i don't really know what they were thinking releasing a companion grinder to the Picopresso that is shit for Espresso.
      Its been a couple of years since i have had a JE grinder, but they were pretty decent grinders for Pour over also. I dont really remember what the micron size was for the JE, maybe 25? but it was a nice grinder. The JE has been discontinued and is no longer being manufactured.
      I always highly recommend that if you want a grinder for proper Espresso (none pressurised porta filter) go for the smallest micron size that you can afford, under 20 microns is acceptable, but lower than that is better, something like 12.5 will give you a decent amount of grind adjustment to play with and still not affect the flavour profile too much for medium (Pour over) to course grind.
      Below that and you are really getting a proper Espresso grinder and smaller microns produce more fines, more fines can alter your flavour profile, especially at the Pour over level.

      @@mightymightyironhead Standart JE has 25 microns. So it’s similar to K series grinders, that can also make an espresso.
      Plus, one guy said that JE’s 25 microns step is a bit different to other 1zpresso grinders. Maybe it’s because of the burrs?
      Also, the coffee chronicle guy compared J-max and Je-plus, and Je has a lot more sweetness to it. I have a J-max and it leans into acidity, that’s also what a lot of people, whom reviewed it, has said. If someone prefers sweetness, I guess it’s a good idea to go for Je-plus, or Je. But, as I’ve heard, Je grinds faster than Plus version.

      Depending on where in the world you're located, I bought a Kingrinder K4 for about $85 US. Kingrinder is a "sister company" of 1Zpresso, and they use the same factories to machine the exact same burrs. I've been using it for the year I've had the Picopresso, and have been very happy with the setup. For about $200 US, I have a legitimate espresso setup at home, which would have been unheard of maybe five or ten years ago.

    To be fair, as someone who has the picopresso, it isn't the ideal way to make espresso any more than the Q2 is ideal to grind espresso. What they do well, together, is make a great travel setup. But by all means if you are trying to squeeze the most out of things the J-Max is for sure the way to go.

    • @mightymightyironhead
      @mightymightyironhead  9 месяцев назад +1

      I totally agree. The Picopresso for what it is and how much its costs, its never going to replace a dedicated electric Espresso machine with a boiler and heated group head, but it does make a decent shot of Espresso.
      All of these manual Espresso makers suffer from lack of heat retention, if they could somehow fix that, it would make these products very good.
      I really like the Flair Pro, it feels like a better more solid product and with the pressure gauge and handle you feel like you have more control over the shot. I think that the Picopresso gauge kind of does the same thing and give you that visual reference to aim for, also the Picopresso is a lot more potable than the Flair Pro (no way i am harrying that around in my pocket).
      Regarding the Q2, its an excellent little entry level grinder and the Heptagonal version is the best entry level grinder for Pour over for that price.
      I have had some decent shots using the Q2 grinder, but it can be painful dialing in the shot, if budget is a concern, maybe the JX-Pro, X-Pro or the X-Ultra can be more appealing, The X-Pro and X-Ultra are very portable grinders.
      All three have 12.5 micron adjustments, so they have quite a bit more grind adjustment for Espresso.

    Thanks for the nice video! How many clicks do you use in a 1zpresso Q2 for picopresso shoot with 18gr?

    • @mightymightyironhead
      @mightymightyironhead  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Vitor. I dont use the Q2 Heptagonal grinder often with the Picopresso, but when i have tested the Q2 against the Picopresso i get some decent results at around the number 3.
      I want to stress that this might not be the best setting for you, obviously you will be using different beans to the ones that i used, also they might be a slightly different roast level and that can mean a slightly different grind adjustment is needed, but 3 seems to work reasonably well.
      If you find that the shot is either too fast or hard to pump (too fine) you can use dosing up or down to try and help with that, maybe half a gram each time.

    • @vitormonteiro747
      @vitormonteiro747 9 месяцев назад

      @@mightymightyironhead Thank you for the tips!! When you say number 3, do you mean 09 clicks? I have used 22~23 clicks and have had good results.
      When you compact the coffee, do you maintain the height level limited by the funnel, or do you press more?
      Obs. I have a Q2 and a Picopresso.

    • @mightymightyironhead
      @mightymightyironhead  9 месяцев назад +1

      @@vitormonteiro747 Close your burrs completely and then open them to the number 3, if you have the grind reference chart it will show (06) do not open to 09 because that setting is right before the number 1 (first full rotation) and that will be too course.
      Remember that the Q2 has 3 clicks between each whole number, so from 0 (burrs fully closed) to 02 (3 clicks) 04 (6 clicks) 06 (9 clicks) remember also that the 0 is also regarded as a click, so you have the three clicks.
      I highly recommend that you use the dosing ring (funnel) when you tamp. Its designed so that the tamp does not push down so much and it will really help you to not over tamp your coffee.
      If you dont use the dosing ring, it is a lot harder to get the correct tamping pressure and you can easily over tamp and block your Picopresso.

      @@mightymightyironhead Thank you very much for your explanation and patience. I believe I understand. In this case, the scale I have has the following markings: 0..1..2..3..4..6..7..8..9.. (zero again) - 10 numbers and two points between them, a total of 30 clicks per turn. When it closes at point 0 and starts to open, the counterclockwise direction actually starts at 0,9,8,7,6...
      When you said that 3 is a good reference, you are saying that they are 21 clicks. And in fact I have been working with 22 to 23, which is close to that, but tightening the tamper more.
      I'll follow your tip of testing with the funnel level, I think its going to work! Thank you very much, I'm really happy to know that I'm using it correctly, after 4 months of racking my brain here!

    Does it really improve the coffee by using this gauge?

    • @mightymightyironhead
      @mightymightyironhead  3 дня назад

      Hi. To be honest its not so important to use the pressure gauge.
      If you have been using the Picopresso for a while and you understand how it works and how the pump handle should feel and how the pressure should feel when you are pumping, you dont really need the pressure gauge.
      The pressure gauge is really a visual guide to let you know that you are keeping the pressure constantly in the correct area and that you are properly getting the correct amount of bars of pressure.
      This can improve the extraction and also the taste of the Espresso. But if you are already getting a good extraction and your Espresso is also good, then i would say you dont need to buy the pressure gauge.
