  • Ok, I did this video after I completed the install. I had no clue it would be as difficult to replace as it was otherwise I probably would have started doing a video before to capture each step. I'll try to respond to comments--I did this 4 years ago and just received the first notification that someone commented on this! I had no idea 25,000 views occurred! Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for the vid. The fact that you didn't show the process wasn't a problem for me, it helped to know what to look out for and which way to twist things. However, changing the passenger side (driver's side for UK like me) is harder as Chrysler decided in their wisdom to put a huge airbox right behind it so you can't get your hands in to change the bulb. I had to remove the entire airbox to get access. Once you have, the process is the same as here. Saved £100 on what the dealership wanted to charge.

      Thanks for watching. Yes, I was going to try to check the passenger side to see if the process was easier than the drivers side, but after seeing the airbox in the way I decided it was not worth it unless I needed to actually change the bulb.

    There are at least two other videos that show exactly how to do it. I watched them and replaced it. $18.50 for the bulb from Advance Auto Parts. 20 minutes to take out the old one and put the new one in and test it. It shined brightly.

      Yeah, some video later improved on mine. I didn't think to record it when I did it. And no videos were made to help me at the time. Glad you found some that helped you.

    Chrysler wanted $240 for the bulb and $120 to install it. Warning that is was a under pressure and could explode if I was not careful. I hard a hard time disconnecting the square metal base from the line and also putting the collar back on so pay attention when taking it apart.
    I followed the instructions in this video and put it in myself and only paid $90 for the bulb at the local Advanced Auto part store.
    Yeah to RUclips and its contributors.

      Debbie--you are awesome! Way to go! :) Yes, the metal clip piece is tough to disconnect and seems pointless to re-install. My bulb is still going strong after all these years.

      I changed the high beam passenger side bulb tonight. It cost $18.50 and actual time taking out old one and put the new one in was about 15 minutes. Took about 10 minutes to go buy the new one and get back home. Advance Auto is close to me.

    Thank you for the video. Removing the driver side bulb is easy but when I tried to insert the new bulb and twist it does not stay with the electrical connector facing down (6 o'clock) but rather at 4 o' clock.
    I tried to insert on several points but did not manage to find a way to twist more.
    When inserting the bulb did you screw it clockwise or counterclockwise looking the bulb from the perspective if you were on the back of the car?

    • @carsDAN7172
      @carsDAN7172  Год назад

      Wow. I cannot recall. I just had to remember how I took it out. I probably messed up and didn't explain that in the video. I assume from the direction you are saying it would have been clockwise.

    I'm having a tough time removing the black plastic ring from the old bulb to put on the new bulb (the ring that locks the bulb into the housing) anyone have a clue? This video didn't help...

      It's been quite a while since I did it--it was a pain. I might have used a tool like a pliers or screwdriver.

    It would have been nice to see any tricks you did to replace the boot (rubber cap) over the rear of the assembly. I have spent 2 hours, and still the boot would not completely go on. Perhaps you know something we don't. 2011 Town & Country Limited 3.8L.

      I don't think I did. It wasn't worth the time or effort.

    My drivers side HID bulb keeps blowing after a few days. I can't keep paying so much for a bulb that doesn't last more than a week.

      You must have defective bulbs or some overload issue--the dealer will have to check your system.

    is it also the same on a 2013 town and country???

      It might be. They did change the body in 2011 so it could be slightly different.

    did it need a ballast or just the bulb

    • @carsDAN7172
      @carsDAN7172  6 лет назад

      Just a bulb--the old one is shown. I'm not sure what ballast you are referring to.

    I win! Thanks for the how to. It would have been a bit better if you filmed actually doing it - but I managed. I was still afraid to touch anything even after I disconnected the battery. I had to work my way up. But take that stupid expensive headlight. I win. That is all.

    • @carsDAN7172
      @carsDAN7172  6 лет назад

      You did win! I wish I would have tried to film it while I did it...but the repair takes time and you need two hands so I couldn't really film it. I did it afterwards to help people. I'm glad you found it helpful--and you won! :)

    Thank you for the overview! Definitely made it easier to start once I knew what to expect. Here's a complete start to finish from my perspective. Didn't really take very long to replace.

      You're welcome. If you have a 2011 to 2019 Classic Ram 1500, I just did a drivers side headlight--but this time I showed each step. :)

    I will never buy another Chrysler product again. I have a 2010 TnC limited and changing one of these things is pure hell. you have to take the front pumper and grill off and then undo 5 bolts for each light to be able to pull out the light casing to change out the light. all that just to change a headlight. THE worst engineering ever, but it's all designed to make someone go back to the dealer to get raped($400 to change out a headlight is theft...period).
    it is possible to reach in there to change the bulb without taking the front pumper and grill off but you're at great risk of damaging the bulb as you cannot touch the bulb with your hands. I did it that way the first time and it was just as much of a pain.
    this video isn't going to be of much help as it does not show the procedure. it's HARD, no matter how you go about it, but it's definitely doable and better than taking it to a dealer to have them steal from you.
    have fun...but you actually won't.

      I agree--the engineering to replace a bulb on this thing was more difficult than it should be.

      Martin Gradias I didn’t think of it until after I completed the repair. And I had no idea this was going to be as difficult as it was. In hindsight I would have.

      Again, I did the video after the install. I made the video in part to describe that there is a small metal clip that is difficult to see--it holds the bulb in place. After the clip is removed, I found that it didn't have to be re-clipped as the bulb would stay in. Using a phone to record a short video helped me understand how the clip needed to be removed.

    Dude you deceived what you did the purpose or a video is to show the process?

    • @carsDAN7172
      @carsDAN7172  6 лет назад

      I had previously done the repair--I added some comments above regarding this. Deceived? No--I clearly explain how to do it. It would be impossible for me to do the repair and handle a camera at the same time. Trust me, you can do the repair if you listen to the video. :)
