- Learn how to design and your own faux leather keychains using the offset feature in Cricut Design Space. I'll show you some of my favorite free fonts for the name, and I'll show you how to create the base of the fold over keychain shape using offset and basic shapes from scratch.
Once you've designed your keychain in Design Space, use faux leather and heat transfer vinyl (or permanent vinyl) to complete this easy, personalized faux leather DIY project.
You can make this project with the Cricut Maker, Maker 3, Explore Air 2, Explore 3, the Cricut Joy or the Joy Xtra - or any cutting machine that cuts heat transfer (iron on) or permanent vinyl.

@@AmyRomeu no thank you!!😊
love your projects can you do these key rings with a spongebob pic
Hi, Barbara! I'm glad you like this one! I'm sorry, I don't use any trademarked characters in any tutorials. However, if you find a SVG of your desired character that's designed to cut from layers of vinyl, you can add an offset and create your own keychain using this same technique. :)
Hi Amy, Such another great project. Thank you for the easy to follow tutorial.
I'm so glad you enjoyed this one! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. :)
Whoo hoo! 🎉

Thank you, Ana!
Do you ever have a problem with your faux leather being sticky after face down on mat? If so, how can I avoid this? Also, for Cricut Joy would I just rotate the leather and name so they are the long way down the mat and use a 12 inch long mat? That's what I'm picturing in my mind!
Hi, Colleen! Sometimes when a new mat is super sticky I do have this problem. You can use a mild dish soap on a warm dishcloth to remove it. You can also try some rubbing alcohol. Test in a small area first.
For making keychains with the Joy - yes, you are exactly right! The 12 inch long mat will be your best friend for this project. :)
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! I can't wait to see your keychains!
👍🏼❤️🤗

I'm glad you like this project, Melinda! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. :)
my question is, since the leather is soft and thin as with your earrings and this do you put something in between the layers to keep
it in its shape? and if so what do you suggest?
Hi, Sandy! Great question! I find that double siding the faux leather (which is not that thin) plus the layer of glue inside makes these foldover keychains pretty sturdy. I would not suggest making these with very thin faux leather (same goes for earring making). I hope that helps!
where do you get your leather from so I get the right thickness?
@@sandyspranger7527 Hi, Sandy! I buy my faux leather on Amazon and Etsy. I add a list of the exact materials I used with convenient links in every video description to make shopping easy! :) I hope that helps!
thank you@@AmyRomeu
If you want to add the name to both sides how would you do that?
Hi, Sylvia! In that case I would not use offset to create an outline of the name. I would type the text and size it how I want it. Then create a shape behind it like a heart or rectangle or circle - a shape that the entire name fits inside of. Then I would duplicate the name and the shape so you can put it on both sides of the shape. I hope that helps!
@@AmyRomeu great ty
I looked up the faux leather that you listed and it says it is a product that has a high return rate! Do you have issues with this company? Thanks
Hi, I only recommend products I use personally, so no, I haven't had any issues. Keep in mind faux leather often doesn't cut well for crafters when they aren't using proven tips and tricks for getting great cuts. So they probably return the faux leather thinking the material is bad, when really they could get good cuts from it with some tweaks. I hope that helps answer your question!
@@AmyRomeu I didn’t see any of the brown color, do you know if they sell it? Thank you!!😊
Hi, Jean! Do you mean the faux leather used on the Isabella keychain? It’s actually a matte gold called Golden. Here’s the link from the video description: www.amazon.com/HGUAN-Leather-30cmX135cm-Suitable-Earrings/dp/B09FKFTYMZ
Can you tell me approximately what these would sell for?
Hi, Cherley! It really depends on your market, how you are selling (online, in person), etc. But I would say $10-$15 for a personalized item like this is a good estimate.
Hi Amy. I have downloaded the fonts, and they are appearing when I go into word but they do not appear when I go into system on Design space
Hi, Caroline! Please try restarting Design Space so fonts on your system can appear there. Also be sure you are looking on the System tab and not the Cricut tab. I hope that helps!
@AmyRomeu it's fine now. I forgot to install them after downloading the font 🙈
I tried this glue and made a mess. lol. It either didn’t stick the two together or got it on the outer part and can’t scrub it off. I’m a mess. 😮
Hi, Kelly! It may take practice to get the right amount of glue spread so it doesn't ooze out to the outside. :) Also the key to getting the two parts to stick together is to press the glued keychain under something heavy like a book for a few hours - did you do that? :)
@@AmyRomeu I tried hot glue, E6000 plus gel super glue. It was all a mess. I finally ordered the heat bond paper (sewing stuff) and it works like magic and way less messy plus no drying time.
@@kellyhoward5996 Awesome! So glad you found something that works for you!
why not hot glue😅
Hi, great question! Hot glue doesn’t spread thinly or evenly enough to result in a smooth and flat keychain, in my experience. But if it works for you that’s great! :)
@@AmyRomeu i didnt mean to put the laugh emoji, that was a mistake, i think your videos are awesome
