This man is right on target. He’s got it. There are two different gun cultures, and they do converge at some places. It’s insanity how the NRA has promoted the worship of guns and prioritizing them over the lives of human beings: pregnant women, children, fathers.

NRA has only donated 10k to politicians this year. They’ve got you hating a boogie man. It’s us, the 80% of the population who want the choice to what we use to self defense. Let’s talk numbers. 1.4 million times a year in America, ar-15s stop crime. There are less than 5k deaths by guns a year in the 0-19 age bracket. Trolly car situation, 1.4 million victims( 25% of which will suffer fatal injury’s)? Or 5k deaths.

I like how none of the commenters who have issue with this guy or gun control have anything legitimate to say about his statements: "There's nothing anti-gun about being okay with background checks, being okay with red flag laws, being okay with outlawing armed intimidation. That's not anti-gun, that's just pro-responsibility." He's absolutely right about those statements. There is no evidence that increased gun control will lead to 'everyone's guns being taken away'.

I've watched 'my' NRA (I'm a life Member) leave me and too many of my fellow members, who are traditional hunters & target shooters, following an executive takeover by a cabal led by LaPierre more than a quarter of a century ago. Lt.Col. Oliver North, as NRA President, looked into this and was fired for doing so. This once notable shooting sports membership organization has become undemocratic and unresponsive to traditional membership needs but increasingly aligned with reactionary politics through fear mongering and manipulation of membership voting. I sincerely wish the disarmament effort success and look forward to the utter defeat of the NRA.

@@adminwrh You're mistaken. And I'm not alone. You can't handle the truth, and neither can Wayne LaPierre, Chris Cox, and the rest of the cabal. When my wife (also a Life Member & shooter) and I get our annual membership ballots, there are no real choices. All candidates go through an internal selection committee that filters out anyone critical of current "leadership". Years ago, the NRA leadership decided to donate to themselves the $$ spent on our promised 'lifetime' subscription to the NRA mag, The American Rifleman. They took it away. GONE! We get NOTHING. NRA spends only about 10% of their $$ on shooter safety, and hunter & target shooter support now. The balance is spent padding the "leadership" pockets, playing mind games on gullible members, and paying off politicians. We gun owners would be better served, as will the Nation, by a new organization.

When Hilary Clinton lost to Donald Trump in 2016, the old hag ranted about Russian attacks and resisting Trump; then that Bernie supporter tried to murder Republican Congressmen and shot Steve scalise.
Steve Scalise recovered yet still supports gun rights; he has noted in interviews that everyone else would have been left defenseless without the police bodyguards who were only there with him assigned to protect the Speaker of the House
With pistols, 2 police bodyguards, one a black woman, stopped the Bernie supporter bent on murdering Republican Congressmen. Jeanne Assam did the same thing to the New Life Church shooter in 2007
Liberals love their gun rights when they have righteous killing to do.
Gun Free Zones mandated by federal law get people killed
My wife carries multiple firearms in defense of human lives everyday at work, including an AR 15. It's literally her profession, a skill for which she is paid, like the men and women who protected Barak Obama's kids while he was crying on TV over kids killed at Sandy Hook.
There used to be a statistic that medical errors were the third leading cause of death in the US.
A more recent statistic stated that Covid was the third leading cause of death in the US, which still means that medical errors are at least the third leading cause of death in the US if Covid leaked from a lab
Do doctors and medical personnel kill more people than blunt objects like hammers, which kill more people than AR-15s?
Which is weird that Barack Obama mocked people for refusing to let the CDC study gun violence when statistics seem to show that the medical profession is more dangerous than guns.
Even the UK police admitted that they are defenseless against Jihadi knife attacks without firearms

      I'm an author on psychology:
The Child In The Well Experiment
Mencius (fourth century BCE) was a Confucian philosopher. He proposed that all humans were inherently good. They all has “sprouts” of goodness, they just needed nurturing.
To demonstrate this he proposed the following. A young child is sat on a well, as you want by it falls screaming down the well. He says EVERYONE would run to help the child, call for help.
Recently this was tested. Subjects were taken to a room in a different city and there was a video screen of the space outside and it shows a well with a child on it. The subjects don't know this is a a pre recorded video, they think it is a live feed. As the “experiment” is being set up the child falls screaming down the well.
The theory is that 100% of people will react and call the assistant to go help the child.
This is not the case. 80% do exactly that, they go nuts and scream for help, run out the room to try and save the child, just what you would expect.
20% do NOTHING. They don't call for help, they don't get up and try to help and a significant proportion don't even register any facial emotions. They just passively watch a child die as if they were watching a commercial for shampoo.
Upon further investigation, the vast majority of these that don't react are right to far right wing in their political views.

This man is right. However there is something I’d like to add. When you hear this person talk he seems like an educated person. But that doesn’t count for a lot of the constituents of the Republican Party. And that’s the bigger problem in the US. Proper education is not available for most. These people have not learned to think for themselves, think critically, research various sources, question what (their) leaders say and go by facts and not by what someone claims.
In their defense, I believe that’s not entirely their fault as past policies have lead to the situation we’re in now, but we see the result of educational erosion after decades of poor policy. And now it’s going to be extremely hard to turn the tide.

But there are limits - background checks, Red Flag laws, and bring back the Federal Assault Weapons ban. From 1994-2004 that banned AR-15's and other similar weapons - and mass shootings dropped. Once the ban was lifted in 2004, mass shootings rose again.

Now go back to the 1934 NFA when it all started. Theyve been chipping at it that long. The problem is government wants us under their control, without recourse against them. The reason the have to chip at it is they have taken a legally binding oath of office, if enforced they can be charged with two felonies if they pass this nonsense. 18 USC 241/242, conspiracy to deny, and denial of rights under color of law. To which they can possibly receive the death penalty. They are the ones afraid, not us. The government serves at our consent. If we remove that consent, they have nothing. So they cultivate fear in those that are gullible enough to drink the koolaid, for the public safety, and foment dependence through that fear. You cannot legislate evil away. Therefore we must defend against it. Example, Biden championed gun free zone legislation, he championed the 94 gun ban. The ban did nothing for statics as crime goes, that's why it expired. Gun free zones have a major body count, he put those targets on their backs. Now he wants bans, red flags, which violate the 4-5A. Federal background checks because the ATF already has a searchable database and a billion records. Illegal under FOPA. They are desperate because theyve been caught. Biden himself committed text book treason in Afghanistan. Governments crimes are coming out, and they rightfully should be afraid, because the ones involved can be put to death. Assange said 98% of Washington would fall. That's not partisan, it's both sides of the aisle.

I couldn’t drink when I was 18, felons are able to get guns because they buy it from gun shows that don’t require background or maybe banning assault weapons all together. It’s on the name “assault weapon” who the fuck are we assaulting? because its not use for hunting. Who in their right mind uses a AR15 for hunting? An assault weapon is a novelty not a necessary, you just want it because you want it. How I see it, I think we all agree that crazy ppl shouldn’t be able to get a gun. Well we made it so easy for everybody to get one that crazies have no problem getting it. A better way to put it is, if you have a rat problem, do you get cats or rat poison? Put it up to a national referendum, where the majority of the people really decide...... and you would lose in a landslide. But you would be to afraid to do that.
Further, you do not get to decide what the "right to bear arms", in the constitution means. Much as you think you do. The definition of the term "arms" is up to the PEOPLE to decide. And you are only 1 out of over 330 million americans who get to decide that meaning. As noted, if the people really decided via a referendum, you would lose in a landslide.
The 2nd amendment is is an outdated ancient bit of historical language that had a purpose totally different than what you attempt to twist and distort it to be. In 1776 the US did not have a professional military, and as such the real intent of the 2nd amendment was to enable citizen soldiers to step up and become the countries military in times of need. Such made common sense over 200 years ago..... but it does not today.
With regard to the police .... the right to bear arms has absolutely zero to do the police or any law enforcement agency of any kind. To suggest otherwise is dishonest and absurd.

Give this man a medal. Ensuring a SAFE environment surrounding firearms is crucial for society as a whole. The problem is, those who are against checks and balances on firearms reminds me of those who are against checks and balances on the stockmarket, banking and finance-market. It's jungle law they are after: without checks and balances, without control on who does what and when and where, anybody can get away with just about anything. It becomes a wild west.
Unfortunately, the Republican Party is very much synonymous with such. And their mentality sadly reminds me of things from the dark and distant past where across the world there were many who didn't want checks and balances pointed against them, only their opponents, because it meant they could do whatever they pleased without anybody to stop them.
Remember, the only thing that benefits from violence, rave, rage, chaos, dissatisfaction, political upheaval, etc. are those who seek to grab at power at any cost -- even democracy, which we saw Jan 6th, 2021.

I do not own a gun because I suffering from depression and anxiety because of severe PTSD and being transgender and that things happen to be of my father trying to kill me as a child because he did not want to have children. No one is taking them away from me. I can get one on the street easily and fast if I really wanted one. I am responsible and do not buy a gun or own one. I have been shot and stabbed. I know how to take a gun or knife away and have done so many times from people on the streets. Not all of us that have mental health problems go get guns and use them to kill. Most who want to get guns. Avoid getting mental health help for fear of losing their gun rights. So mental health will not solve anything. We need to teach people to be responsible before getting a gun. That is the problem. With rights and freedom comes great responsibility to have them. And many fought and died so they could have them. And then come back to a nation where there is no responsibility is wrong after they fought so hard for it.

Ryan is so right .I am Australian from Melbourne and was close to getting shot at in the "Hoddle St " massacre. My dad fought in WW2 in PNG and later trained American soldiers.
He loved guns but handed his in when he had a nervous breakdown in the 1960s.
Today we have more and more people everywhere with mental issues caused by economic, drug and pressure reasons. Combine this with lax gun laws and politicians trying to get support from gun owners and you have the perfect storm.
Only today on the news here did I see all the crosses for people killed by gun violence this year??. It was in the thousands I believe. If so this is a national disaster in America !!
I love the American people but I am upset at the divide that is clearly appearing before my eyes here. The gun issue is tearing the country apart. It is so sad.

Yeah, it is tearing the country apart and it is sad.
We have constant mass-shootings in parts of this country where the people have been forcibly disarmed by their state governments, and this is being used as a justification to further disarm the rest of the population to make them easier to shoot.
And all of this because a few Authoritarians can't stand the idea that people have basic human rights and want to be left alone.

I can walk in almost any suburb in Melbourne without fear of being shot at. Why?? Because of our strict gun laws.
Putting more guns into more hands only means more guns get in the wrong hands and more people dying. There has to be some control of guns.
But it is up to the politicians on both sides to get together and fix it and have the "balls" to stand up to the NRA.

There are more guns than human beings in the United States and the vast majority of gun violence in this country takes place in areas where guns are already heavily restricted. If guns even slightly caused violence, everyone here would be dead.
The media pretends the NRA is a relevant political organization so they can use it as a strawman. Ground level citizens don't give a shit about the NRA. The people here have a basic Constitutional right to own weapons, some money-laundering scheme doesn't change that.

UK to US, There is absolutely nothing ‘positive’ about growing up with guns, period. If you must hunt defenceless animals, give them a sporting chance and do it with a bow and arrow. There is absolutely no valid reason for any member of the public to keep a firearm in their place of residence or work, unless that work/occupation demands it. The USA would be a safer, more welcoming place for tourists not to mention the benefits to American society. Get rid of your guns and set America free in a ‘positive’ way.

How much damage do they do to our environment? How much soil do they deplete? How many chemicals into our water supply? How much resistance to antibiotics do they create? They don't care about anything but the bottom line. They are in no way stewards of the land, just ruining it while making short term profits and getting amazing benifits from the government. I agree people who hunt for trophy or thrills are sick. I was raised to respect the animals we hunt and to only hunt game that we would process and eat. We are stewards to the land and all revenue from hunting licenses go to preserving wildlife habitat. I hope the goal is to make laws so that only law abiding citizens with training and insurance can own guns. I also thing they should go after high capacity magazines and assault style weapons. Background checks and waiting periods would also help. If you are caught with an unregistered weapon it should be a felony. If your weapon is used by someone else to kill or maim someone because your guns aren't locked up you should be held liable. If you give a gun to someone who isn't allowed to own a gun then you should be held liable to whatever crime was committed with it.

"A well regulated militia being necessary for a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." It's "the peoples" right to keep and bear arms, not the militia. It is necessary for it to be the peoples right so that they are able to form a militia at will and without government assistance or intervention. It is clearly understood through material like the federalist papers that the purpose of the second amendment is to facilitate the peoples ability to resist tyrannical forces from both foreign and domestic sources, such as the federal government, if it were to become tyrannical. Furthermore, by "a well regulated militia" it doesn't mean regulated in the way that you're thinking, in terms of regulations from a government, rather, at that time "well regulated" would more appropriately be understood as "well functioning", or "in proper working order", or in this case, possibly just "effective". So a rough possible translation would be along the lines of "An effective militia being necessary for a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

"regulated" and "functioning" - not even "effective" - are in no way interchangeable terms, contrary to your (clear) insistence upon disseminating that inference. Valid synonyms for regulated would be along the lines of "controlled." The Second Amendment did espouse a right for individual gun ownership...it did NOT insinuate that individuals could exercise unfettered license to indulge gun ownership, certainly not recklessly...and without good cause. "Regulated" means just what it says it means...and given your Founding Fathers took great pains to employ precise rhetoric to impart their position on all issues addressed in the Constitution (for example...it was no feasible interpretation of the Constitution that a Vice-President, serving as President of the Senate, was endowed with any more office where counting Electoral ballots was concerned beyond...counting Electoral ballots), your "interpretation" of the meaning behind the Second Amendment is not at all supportable.

He grow up like me ,a lot of friends had rifles and shotguns in their pickup trucks at school but no was coaching people with military mass murdering assault weapons to do harm or believe in unsupported accusations to push gun sales and in turn campaign founding . We have the NRA driving fears to get more gun sales and politicians without morals to raise campaign money . The result is going to be "well regulated" gun sales as We no longer need a well regulated militia now that We have allowed a standing army . The choice is on one part to have a"standing army" or a " well regulated militia" and on the second part to love all of God's creation regardless of color -culture or age concerning children health and safety...If organizations and groups like the NRA were not acting oligarchs for campaign finance maybe We could keep the second amendment and not outlaw political parties but as it stands both political parties and attack weapons must be Outlawed ,hunting weapons and home defense weapons may can stay . The concern some should start to feel is with gun rights people killing so many people in non defense situations they are going to get the entire second amendment removed by the fellowing generations who will refuse to raised children in the fear they grow up with ....

That was a whole lot of nothing. You never once mentioned in your Manifesto about the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. And of course you do know that the Second Amendment is not about hunting or defending yourself against criminals? It's about the citizenry protecting itself against an oppressive government. And not once did you ever mention that the current gun laws are not being enforced. As the old saying goes, It's not what they're telling you it's what they're not telling you, so I can only conclude that that long and windy diatribe is disingenuous and nothing more than partisan talking points.

An Excise Tax on guns: OK per 2nd ammendment because it is on gunmakers, and passes by reconcilliation. EXCISE tax of $5000/AR15 removes the profit motive in building them.

Finally some common sense. I'm very much pro guns but am also in favor of checks and even strict rules to get hold of guns. The Czech Republic is what one would call "shall issue". Anyone can ask for a gun permit and then buy and carry guns. But first he or she has to pass a background check, a interview at the local police station, a medical check up and a marksmanship exam (it's easy don't worry:). It's very similar to getting driving license (no... "right to travel" doesn't mean one can drive without a license ... in case you asked! Same for guns)
There is this fear among gun owners in the US that even the smallest change will set an avalanche of restrictions in motion, culminating in the total ban of guns. Although most of it is unreasonable, it must be addressed.

@@JBarnes917 that’s a dangerous argument. What if another amendment is passed repealing the right to bear arms altogether? Isn’t it better to enjoy that right responsibly?
Also, New York and Hawaii (among other cities and states) are both in the US and heavily restrict access to firearms. Believe me it is way easier to get a concealed carry permit in Prague than in NYC!
And that seems to be compatible with the 2nd amendment apparently…
Instead of having people opposed to freedom to keep firearms write repressive gun laws… isn’t it better if we do it?

@@phabio7839 it’s not even an argument it’s a fact, and I do enjoy it responsibly. The 2nd amendment is never going to get repealed, you understand what that would take? New York is the perfect example, wouldn’t you rather be able to carry a gun? The criminals do anyway so what law is stoping them? Shall not be infringed…

If nothing is done to at least try and disarm those who don't enjoy this right responsibly, all of the US could be subject to NYC style gun laws. Then you're right... only the criminal (and those well connected or very wealthy) will be carrying guns.

Note 50% of our states have put into law "Constitutional Carry no permit required to carry firearms. Its time to decide if you want to be a victim or take responsibility.

A full 1/4 of the people I work with bought guns in the last decade (all AR style, their first guns ever) just so they could say "they can't take my guns, I need to protect myself". I tell them that if they care about their lives so much, they should wear their seatbelts and follow traffic laws. Unfortunately, they're idiots.
