You are absolutely right!! He puts the shredders to shame here. It is actually melodic in it's madness. My #1 band as a teenager in the '70s. Too bad Roger had to help John with the vocals. His vocals for this song back in the day where perfect. After all...... his song.
@@bobcaygeon4533 I think it’s also in part to allow John to focus on the bass playing more, he tends to sing most of the lyrics and let roger hit the higher notes. When roger is doing that he’s adding little licks and riffs that aren’t in the recording. But I do admit this isn’t johns best singing. Also, roger used to have to sit back seat so to speak during this one back in The Who’s earlier days so I think it’s so the whole band is more involved. Even the added solos from Pete go to show they wanted to go all in on this one live!
I think Roger is doubling John on vocals because John’s voice wasn’t very strong at this point in his life. Just to help add some power and help John preserve his dignity too a bit.
The whole band sounds absolutely brilliant! Townsend was tearing up the fretboard and Entwhistle does otherworldly things on the bass. Im a bass player and he never stops amazing me. Zak Starkey is no Keith Moon but he deserves alot of credit his playing is nothing less than dynamic!
Right on @Vincent M! Hard to duplicate the old days without Moon but Zak is easily the best drummer they have had. He combines solid technique with the ability to improvise, something they lacked with Kenny Jones. I think Entwistle improved as he aged, scary as that is. Arguably one of the best bass players in rock history.
God bless whoever that was in the audience who warranted the bird from Pete. You helped fuel his rage and fury and blest us with a blistering F YOU solo haha!
John wrote this but he may not have sung it in a while. Roger usually lays back a bit more on this song. Maybe John knew he wasnt up to carrying it tonight.
Saw this tour in Dallas a few weeks later. Pete was in a weird mood(here too judging by around 6.00 wth) before internet so no mention but he was bitching at somebody holding a Union Jack flag and then later he screamed "THIS IS CHURCH"! anybody else here at that Dallas gig in August 2000?
I have a question about the location. It says NJ, but in the boot that I have of this complete show, with the said location and date, Pete, at the end of My Generation, says "Hello Philadelphia, and talks about having been there before, etc and flying over the city in a helicopter, etc. So, what is the actual location for this show? I checked this version of the song with the one on the audio recording and they are identical.
Love how Roger and John grin at each other after "looking out for number one," like they know what they're singing about.
Unreal….what a drummer Zak is!
Kid had a wicked Uncle Ernie!
I am so digging this song. I'm giving its lots of airplay. What an awesome rocker
People love to say that Pete can't play lead guitar. Good lord he was ferocious here. Insane harmonics. Tapping. Shredding. You name it. Masterful.

Anyone who ever said that is a tone deaf idiot. He's one of the greatest, in so many aspects.
The Who loved their Jimi.
John s' playing is amazing.
Indubitably.
The bassist, wow, I have never seen one like Entwistle, play it like a 🎸, six string, awesome bass player
I saw this show. It changed my musical life, and was possibly the most intense of the 2000 tour.
SAW IT JONES BEACH, NY!!!
I was there too, across the Delaware from Philly. They were very intense and on target. Inspirational for any musician.
I saw them on this tour,Joe Strummer as warm up act.The Who a hard act to top live.
Where the heck did they play in Camden?? Rutgers perhaps??
Their charity show at the Royal Albert Hall is absolutely flawless. This show is absolutely ferocious tho!
best band ever!
Les Who réinventaient leurs musiques à chaque concert.
Phenomenal. The Ox moving faster than lightning and Pete literally beating the Strat into submission.
MY WIFE. " ONE OF THE BEST"
John Entwistle tears that bass apart!!!!! what a beast

Starkey might not be Keith Moon, but you can easily tell he was greatly influenced by his "Uncle Keith".
Keith Moon bought Zak Starkey his first drum kit, so he’s a great replacement.
@@keithbeck2300 No argument from me.
Great version! Pete and John showing their fancy picking skills....
Towshends on fire here class
And he's calling out the crowd, love it.
I love how Roger Daltery and John Entwhistle sing this almost as a duet! These guys really respected other.
I live the Who but never seen them this intense.
Awesome version of this classic they killed it.
Pete still sharp as a tack. ❤🎵
Wow, something ticked Pete off or something....the best soloing I've seen from Pete post 1980.
he was trying to be something he wasn't in my opinion.
@SEZWAH easy Brad. Obviously you are not a musician
Bejesus.... these guys are soooooo good!
lyrics are spot on. lead boots on when running away
sooooooooooooooooo good!!!!!
God bless whoever that was in the audience who warranted the bird from Pete. You helped fuel his rage and fury and blest us with a blistering F YOU solo haha!
Pete's always great on John's My Wife. Competition maybe? Who knows.
awesome
Totally unbelievable. Pete seemed a little cranky that night. Wonder what was going on around 6:00.
+boatbutter He might have just been having a little fun with an enthusiastic front-row audience member. Although with Pete, ya never know!!!
Look at Pete mash on that "device" at 6:23. Temperance Peter...
5:00 The Ox with the pick flip.
Casually gets it out of his way, proceeds to SHRED, mysteriously pulls another pick out of thin air by 5:10 incredible
I was there
Wow!!
Entwistle has no voice on this, but the bass playing is outstanding as you might expect. Pete shreds hard.
John wrote this but he may not have sung it in a while. Roger usually lays back a bit more on this song. Maybe John knew he wasnt up to carrying it tonight.
The Man.
And despite that,or because of, John Entwistle had great vocals, and his guitar playing g
Awesome
Meanwhile, the Ox just goes about his business, what a great band.
"Legends, The Fucking Who."

Go Johnny go!
Helll yeah, married life,
Methinks John's Missus Ali lived up to her namesake.🥊
Pete townsend, awesome
It was said that Pete hated this no song, but he sure wasn’t going to let John get out ahead on his own song and this concert version.
???
Pete on ... what??
gotta get that!
;-)
Life on the road
Animales !!!!!
Pete Townshend,such a briliant bastard.
Pete," hey boy" dig this , Ill show you how to go to work on this motherfucker, look here! Pete so fuckin bad ass, No guts No glory

Zak Starsky in drums
I be their..The Ox
I thought this was Johns 8 minutes.
Townshend is obviously jealous of John's song here.
+Grenge g As he was with a lot of John's material, dating back to Boris The Spider.
I just think Pete gives it the full credit it deserves.
You're definitely washed-up when you're playing Camden New Jersey.
A 25k capacity venue....yeah, washed up.
After all these Years I love John Entwistle the best Bass player and I miss Keith Moon on Drums!Ringo's Son really got no shops no talent sorry!!
And you can’t type. Go away.
@@TheMusicalElitist Can't handle the truth? I go away now, bye bye!
Ringo Starr 's son Zack Starsky is a very good drummer.
Very poor compared to early years
Wow!
