- This video is about Installing 4D Carbon Fiber Vinyl on Pillars of a 2002 Ford Focus. They were worn out and needed some updating. I covered the existing trim pieces and cut to fit. I go into some detail of mistakes that people make when doing this themselves. Subscribe to my page to see more upcoming projects (wrapping mirrors and interior parts)
Of ALL DIY You Tube Videos Of How To Install Carbon Fiber Vinyl To Car Door Pillars ..Your Step By Step Video Is The Ultimate Best By Far!!!.....In My Opinion..Thank You Sooo Much For Uploading!!
Wow, thanks! I am glad that I could help you. Good luck with your projects.
Just a little tip, dont rub the squeegee up and down, go in one direction only. i.e, from top to bottom and lift the tool off the vinyl and start again. Saves air bubbles being pushed around.
Thanks
Good job on the carbon fiber tape. I may be doing one soon after watching a few more videos and using all of you guys great techniques ;) Thanks for posting.
You are welcome. Thanks for watching.
I am thinking of doing the same to my vauxhall mokka but will wach your video' a couple of times before I have ago 👍
This was honestly my first attempt at it. Just take your time. Its not too bad on small simple items. Thanks for watching!
This was a very nicely done, and informative video. I will definitely use your tips when I install this. Thanks.
Thanks for watching. I hope that it helps.
Really enjoyed your video. I have a 2005 Ford Taurus sedan on which the side pillars look really weathered and vinal sprays/creams haven't done the trick. The wrap improves the appearance 1000%
Thanks for watching. I am glad that it helped.
That was enough to do both sides🤦🏾♀️👍 awesome job!
Chyna Barnes I probably had 3 time as much left over I can’t remember but I believe I bought a 4x5 piece. Thanks for watching.
well done!! gave me courage, confidence and motivation to save a buck and do it myself!!!
Thanks man. This was actually my first project as well. Have fun with your project. Thanks for watching.
Well done! Most informative trim wrap video I have seen. A+
Pat Gentry thanks Pat
It looks nice with the wrap
Thanks!
Awesome job Dave..... Really enjoyed it, will surely try that on my Rexy. Cheers mate!
Thank you. I am glad that you enjoyed it. I hope that it helps. A helpful tip that I could out is that smaller surfaces are a little harder to start out on. The pillars were perfect for starting.
thanks for the idea my car was neglected by its previous owner as well and this will help it look better
+Jose Moran I am glad that this will help you. Good luck with your project.
Patterns line up good, nice work

This turned out really well. Makes me believe that I can do it to my car.
MyCatInABox it was very easy. There was almost no learning curve.
Thanks Dave, for sharing, appreciated.
Very welcome. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for the clear instructions. I am going to try it on my honda.
No problem. I hope that it helps. Good luck on your project. Thanks for watching.
Nicely done mate, I done mine last week on my Audi.
Thanks. How did it come out?
@@DaveMedicus very impressed with results, superb look at only 18 pounds. I was lucky enough to be able to remove the pillars and sand them and stick the carbon on away from the car ,
Looks really good. I am getting ready to do the pillars on my kia soul.
I am going to do my pillars in piano black.
You have me a lot of helpful information. To do under the moldings use
a tucking tool.
Go for it! Thanks for watching and good luck on your Kia.
great job and excellent video....4 thumbs up
Thanks. I hope that this video helped you
I never thought of this before.
thanks 👍👍
No problem I hope that this helps.
Nice work 👍👍
Thanks 👍
I have done it on my bmw series 7 and its looks great and now im doing it on bmw i8
+Hamza_RJi Now you are making me jealous. I actually sold my Alpine White 2005 645Ci before I moved out to Arizona to learn how to fly helicopters. That was my favorite car that I have ever owned with the exception of the constant oil leaks that I had to fix. I am glad that this video helped you.
Dave Medicus no bro honestly i was joking 😩 i dont have them they are my dreams.. but i only havr bmw 320d e46 😔
great video help alot to fit vinyl on my car many thanks
Thank you I am glad that I was able to help you out. Remember to share and subscribe for more current videos.
You did an amazing job.
Thank you. I hope that it helped.
Nice job thanks- better than buying an entire ready-made kit. I'm looking at wrapping the ugly brown trim pieces in my 2014
Honda Accord Sedan.
Thanks. It wasn't very hard to do and you will also have more room for error. Those kits are cut almost exact. If you are the slightest bit off you will have to buy a new set. This is a much easier and safer way to do it.
Do you have any recommendations as to where I can find this material online? I saw a few dealers on Ebay and one of them is selling a 12" x 60" roll for about $6.00. Not 3M brand but a clone of it I suppose. I also heard it's easy to remove in case you no longer like the look and it leaves no sticky residue behind. Is this true? Thanks!!
Yes it is super easy to remove. I would try to get a good quality vinyl because it will give you better results. I believe my stuff total was like $40 will tools included. Just do a google search for automotive
vinyl.
Dave Medicus Thanks again for your help!!
Not a problem
Thank you for making this video.
No problem I hope that it helped.
Nice job! Thanks for help!
Thank you
That look pretty good, thx for the vid

Thank You
Thanks for helpful video..much appreciated.
No problem. I am glad that it helped
Nice work dude, doing the blue on my Yaris now haha
Thank You. Good luck with your project. Thanks for watching
I did mine 4 years ago and still look good but now doing more bits so I'm doing them again
I’m glad that they are holding up
Man...that looks hot. Good job bro!!!
Thanks. I hope that this gives you some good ideas for your projects. If its your first time start small. Do not over complicate things with complex shapes.
@ DM....very true indeed my friend! I'll keep it straight and simple at first....thanks again bro.
Not a problem.
Great work loved it helped alot thanks
Glad it helped. Thanks for watching
Nice job thank you for shared with us.
No problem I am glad that you enjoyed it, and hope that it helps you in the future.

nice catch and nice job
+Haider Jaber Thanks for watching. Hope that this helped.
Looks great!
Thanks for watching
Thank you really helpful
Thanks for watching!
Nice Job!!!
Thank you. Glad that you enjoyed it.
Heating the vinyl up makes cutting harder. If it conforms and stretches cutting isn’t as easy as when it’s stiff. It’s like paper pretty stiff you can hold it in one hand and cute through real easy.
Good finished product thought looks great!
On mine heating it up softened the material making it easier to cut.
bravo..really good work...but it seems so hard doing it..
+GR81 This was actually my first time doing it thats why. Once I got to the other side is was super easy. It will be the same for you if they are simple pieces to cover like this. I have 2 other vinyl videos and you can see that it got much easier. Thanks for watching.
Holy crap that looks good! I can't wait to do this on my 4Runner that I just got. Idiot before me chipped the pillars up bad. I might have to put some body filler on it first so that it doesn't show through the vinyl.
Use a good wrap brand. The one I used didn't last very long and I have to redo it. The adhesive on the back didn't hold and was lifting and expanding in the middle. I would use like a 3m or better product
Dave Medicus Yeah Amazon has some pretty sweet deals on rolls from 3M. Thanks man!
That shit looks nice Bro, good job and thanks for the idea
Thanks man. I would use 3m vinyl the stuff that I sued was cheap but did not hold up to the conditions in Arizona.
I'll keep that in mind, I wanna do a lot of carbon fiber wrap in my 300, thinking of doing wheels also
Angles are hard but for a beginner I would try to stick with more of the flatter/slightly curved pieces. I have a few other videos where I did the interior handles I would watch if I were you. This was actually my first project with vinyl. Good luck and let me know how things go.
Looks good
Thanks
Good job 👍
Thank you.
Very nice
ANAD Colz thanks
good job and fast
Thanks it held up great. I took it off after about three years
nice catch :) you could use snap blade knife for cutting too
I had one but I liked the control I had with the blade.
👍 good job
Thank you!!! Thanks for watching.
That's awesome yo.
It hank you. I hope that this video helped you some how. Thanks for watching.
really appreciate the level of detail in this video! using the magnets is really smart. I'm guessing the temperatures you're stating are in farenheit? maybe I misheard but 70F doesn't seem all that warm to me
It was 70 outside temp.
Very nice 😍
Thanks for watching
Wow ! eres un artista,. 👍
Thank you!
Thanks a lot!!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching
very good
Thank you
That looks really nice on that orange . I wonder if it would look as nice on my dark grey Jetta . my pillars are looking ruff to . ☑
It should look really nice. When the sun hits it will really shine
Dave Medicus now you need window tint it looks bad a$$
You don't have to get carbon fiber vinyl wrap. The vinyl wrap is available in many different colors and finishes. Look on eBay and Amazon to see all of your options, many sellers will also offer a small piece of wrap for just a few dollars so you can see how it looks in person. I bought a sample from 1 dealer, it looked great on the internet, but looked like crap in person.
look great
Thanks
goodjob!
Thank you.
Great work :) I do have a question. What if the Carbon Fiber Vinyl is not sticky enough? Is their any glue or something that can be applied that won't damage the paint or leave any residue if the Vinyl is removed?
+akshay sobs You can try to apply heat to the vinyl to melt the glue already on the material and try it. Other than that if its not sticky I would not even attempt to use it. There is some glue that would hold the edges but that won't help you if the material is bad.
Awesome
Thanks for watching
You said you cut more vinyl than you needed for the front door pillar, but you could have done both door pillars in one hit.
iamMrBiggs I would not have been able to wrap around the inside of the door and make it look right if I did the, both together. The trim went around the inside pretty far. I believe I showed it farther back in the video.
watching a box opening of a heat gun 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣man we all need to get lives hahahahah. 80’s are missed. lol
flatearth crypto yes they are. Lol
I think I can do something like that that looks very nice
Thank you. Best of luck with your project.
Nice
Ernest Spriggs thanks.
Looks great. I've never applied vinyl to a car and was wondering how long does it before you can trim it? Or does it stick once you hit it with heat gun.
You can trim it immediately. This video was actually my first time so you can do it too. the heat gun is only needed if you have to stretch the material. If you have to stretch it a lot there are some good videos on youtube with tricks when using a heat gun.
Great little tutorial very informative 👍 I know this was years ago, wondering how long would these vinyl last? I'm plan on doing a chrome delete & thinking whether to vinyl rap or paint.
Thanks
I kept it on for 3 years but you can keep them on for way longer. I’ve see people easily get 6 years out of it. I had a decal on my truck hood for the 8 years that I owned it. It just gets a little harder to pull off because it gets brittle with age. I’m talking about when under force.
How will it remove the vinul without damage your cat tnx
superb...
Thanks
Looks nice, thinking about doing this to preserve my pillars, they are starting to get a little dull.
Where do you find this type of CF vinyl ?
I bought mine at www.metrorestyling.com I would try to use 3m for a better product
What are you trimming the edges with?? Are you cutting into the paintjob???
No I wasn't cutting into the paint because there was a lip I was cutting against. I never had any wrap actually touching the paint. Very simple process on my vehicle. Thanks for watching!
I'm looking to put a replacement OEM vinyl over the original in a similar way for my driver door. The tape has no problem sticking over the original one (obviously as long as you clean it, like you showed)?
Thanks for watching
Gonna try this on my car! My door pillars have a grey vinyl on them stock, but some of it has came off showing the red paint underneath!
Let me know how they come out. Make sure that its clean and anything should be better than what you have.
Yeah I'll rub with alcohol and wipe it down
My gloss black film cam creased. Does heating and applying get rid of the creases?
Yes.
Looks nice..am going to do the same to my honda
Thank you
if youndont jave a heat gun you can still do it just fine heat guns are good when u want it to fit flawlessly i need to get one cuz imma do most of my car with it but for bow just my pillars
You can always use a hair dryer as a fall back just be careful because they get hot fast.
It looks nice but everything in this world has its own life. When it is peeled off after long time to change with another one , does it have bad impact on the door pillars?
I had no issues when I peeled mine off. Actually my pillars looked amazing and I didn't have to put anything back on them.
Dave Medicus...how you doing my friend? By the way, how did it hold on your Ford Focus?Cheers.
Logan I am doing great. The vinyl wrap worked great. I kept it on for about 2 1/2 years before I took it off. All of the edges held up great. The adhesive was not very strong on the cheap material I used so I would recommend 3m or Oracle. I plan on doing it again with a different style material just for fun.
Great! I hope you upload a new tutorial video then....looking forwards bro...cheers!
Iv started a film dipping company so trying to see if any different looks from the wrap and film dipping
Never heard of that before. Like Hydro dipping?
Great video babyboy!! now I have a 2019 kia forte and I m trying to add some to the rear sides because they said they didn't make chrome but then I thought about adding the carbon instead but do u think that I can get the carbon for this type of car,let a brother know and thanks!!
You can get carbon for any vehicle. You would just need to cut it yourself.
@@DaveMedicus thanks!! babyboy, one more thing does it come off when you wash your car.
Saludos desde Colombia
Gracias por ver mi vídeo.
fuking Neat Work Bro !!!
Thanks Boss. Sorry I am just seeing some of these comments now.
he man good job. How much was the 4D vinyl wrap ?
Basiru Rahim it was only like $7 for a 1'x5' piece
Question. Are the process of wrapping the same when wrapping plastic interiors?
Allan Cabibihan yes. You just may have more angles to deal with.
I know this vid is pretty old but I'm curious how this vinyl holds up on the exterior? Is there a way to protect it?
I kept it on for about 4 years it held up great. I would put wax on it to help protect it from the Arizona sun. I still have the vinyl on the interior of my car so it holds up
@@DaveMedicus good to hear, appreciate the response!
@@mygt8a4re no problem. Thanks for watching
Nce Job!!!
+Dan Rosca Thank you. I hope that this helps you with your project.
Good video! Where did you get your vinyl from?
www.metrorestyling.com
Tq bro
Thanks for watching!
salute to u bro
Thank you sir
Appreciate the effort - but never understood the logic of applying CF on that particular area. I mean it would far be better to use a satin or gloss black than CF. Portraying the idea that CF is there - that your pillars are made of CF (in a key structural reinforcement area of the vehicle) is a bit ridiculous don't you think? Faux CF on the roof or hood I could reconcile - but not on pillars.
It was different and a style that I liked. Toyota actually used carbon fiber vinyl on their pillars from the factory.
nice
Thank you. I hope that this helps.
