    Not an extra layer, but a replacement of the outer layer. The shell is not 100% carbon fiber, but there is a drop in weight compared to the fiberglass version. -CK

    What kind of bike are you riding? Riding Style? My vote goes to the Ghost Carbon, but it depends on how you plan on using the helmet.- CK

    The Amber lens is best tinted for cloudy days where contrast is low and seeing into shadows is difficult. I wouldn't recommend using anything but clear for night time. -CK

    To me personally, Shoei and Arai still make some of the best helmets around, but I am impressed with the style and function Icon is producing these days. The premium price tag attached to the Ghost Carbon helmets are in part due to the more exotic materials used in its construction. Arai and Shoei build helmets to be safe first and foremost, with less emphasis on cool factor. Icon builds safe helmets with a heavy emphasis on cool factor. ~Ali

  • @RevZilla
    @RevZilla  11 лет назад

    All Carbon Fiber helmets tend to be more noisy than their counterparts as the decrease in weight usually equates to a decrease in padding or other materials that would help to deaden sound. -CK

  • @RevZilla
    @RevZilla  11 лет назад

    There are a few things that set this apart from the Airframe, including the hand-laid carbon fiber shell, the translucent supervents and the included yellow tactical faceshield. No doubt $500 is a big investment.

    I just got it this Ghost Carbon and so far i love it!!! Quality is very good, as for the price it's up there but you pay for what you get. buy a $100 or buy a $500 and you definitely can tell if you got junk or some thing great. So far people that see it want it. So if you don't want to talk to people then don't buy it. It's like a viper or a corvette, people see a viper and go crazy and want to talk about it. Then a corvette well they just walk away. Got mine at RevZilla great people!!

    Can you do a subcategory of full faced helmets, and modular helmets that are better for cruisers and Harleys?
    Are all the high end full faced helmets designed for face on the gas tank riding?
    And how much to you lose in aerodynamics if you are sitting more upright?

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  9 лет назад +1

      kiran hill If we don't specifically call out a helmet for being a race helmet, it's likely good for upright riding on cruisers and Harleys. That being said, you really want a helmet that has ventilation and aerodynamics optimized for 3/4 to upright riding. For modulars, Shoei Neotec, Scorpion EXO-GT3000, and Schuberth C3 Pro. For full-face, Shoei GT-Air and RF-1200, Scorpion EXO-T1200 and EXO-R710, HJC RPHA ST and FG-17, and Schuberth S2. The Arai Defiant is also great, but it's a bit loud. -DrewZilla

    Hey revzilla, I was wondering how this compares to the scorpion EXO-R2000, I have one but I have it a size bigger than my head and just recently the pump checkpads are leaking air somewear so it feels loose now without the pumps working.

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  9 лет назад

      +dohser805 They're both considered sport/track helmets, but they each conform to different standards. The US-model EXO-R2000 meets the DOT and Snell safety standards, whereas the Icon Airframe meets DOT and ECE safety standards. From a fit standpoint, the EXO-R2000 is intermediate oval, whereas this Airframe Ghost Carbon is pretty round. Keep in mind that the Airframe Ghost Carbon is now being replaced by the Airframe PRO Ghost Carbon, which is a narrow/long oval in its internal shape. If your EXO-R2000 is too big, it really would be safer to get a new, properly-fitting helmet. -DrewZilla

    Is this an extra layer of carbon twill applied to the top of existing helmet or does it serve a purpose as to dropping weight?

  • @Dreadmantisthe2nd

    So the airframe is $265 and this is $500. They're essentially the same helmet, only this is about double the price. Don't get me wrong, it looks freaking awesome, but $500 seems a bit much.

    Are there pin lock visors available for this helmet.
    Really like the idea of that yellow visor for enhanced low light riding, but if it fogs up on colder nights it won't be any good ?
    How would this compare in size (the actual outer dimensions of the helmet) & weight against my current favorite Shoei X-Spirit 2 (called X-12 in the U.S.) ?

    Can you use that yellow visor at night and how well does it work? Is it the same yellow one you can buy for 50 bucks, I have a variant but not thee ghost model. So if I got the yellow visor, well it be the same as the gh ost models

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  7 лет назад

      Yup, it is the yellow is the same tint. While you can use it at night, it's not necessarily recommended. Yellow can cut out the harshness of blue tones from headlights, but it will also dim your overall vision at the same time. -TeamZilla Chris

    @revzilla I am interested in buying a visor that would work during the day and night. I've heard that yellow visors are great for night riding but I don't like the look and don't believe they would block enough light during the day. So I am curious if the icon RST red visors would be good for day/night riding? If not, is there a reliable photochromatic option for an icon airmada?

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  7 лет назад

      You are correct that yellow visors don't really block light for daytime riding. For the RST red visor, it appears red from the outside but is a standard light smoke tint from the inside. Tinted visors, even light smoke tint, are not appropriate for nighttime riding. Additionally, there are no photochromic visors for Icon helmets, so you are limited to wearing sunglasses with a clear visor or swapping between clear and tinted visors. -DrewZilla

    Great review. Not trying to troll here but the term "mil-spec" is confusing, and can actually be considered by some to be a misrepresentation of the product. Is it your opinion that they shot for a mil spec design or is that what they are advertising.
    Coming from someone that that sells to the military.... Mil-Spec is a term used to advertise that your product has been tested by, and meets the standards for the united states military... Other than that, great review man. I'm probably going to buy this thing because its so damn sexy.

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  10 лет назад +1

      Hah! It is a sexy helmet! We apologize for the confusion, Tyblerone. Yes, they were aiming (pun intended) for the tactical / mil-spec look. The helmet is not meant for actual tactical scenarios and was not built to military specifications. It has more of a .223 feel as opposed to 5.56. That's very cool that you sell to the military. Are you in the ballistics field? -Hi-Viz Brian

    • @Tyblerone
      @Tyblerone 10 лет назад

      No i'm not in the ballistics field. A "Tactical" look I can understand, but a "mil-spec" look I cannot. I still think you are miss-understanding the definition of the term "mill spec." The definition verbatim: A United States defense standard, often called a military standard, "MIL-STD", "MIL-SPEC", or (informally) "MilSpecs", is used to help achieve standardization objectives by the U.S. Department of Defense. Like I said, cool helmet. The Ballistic Coefficient difference between the above mentioned rounds is borderline impossible to feel, and I don't see how that applies...? I guess what i'm trying to say is you don't need to miss-use cool catch phrases to highlight a product. That thing sells itself.

      AuburnMan9 It's all about that Carbon overlay. The standard Airframe uses a blend of fiberglass, carbon fiber, and Dyneema for the shell construction, and unless you get the Airframe Construct, you don't actually see the shell. With the Ghost Carbon, it's much more expensive and time-consuming to get the carbon fiber to lay correctly in the molds so you get the nice, even pattern you see. -DrewZilla

      RevZilla What helmet would you recommend the Arai RX-Q or the Icon Airframe Ghost Carbon? I would like the opinion of someone who has worn both thanks a lot.

      Those are quite different helmets! What kind of riding do you do? This will help me know what your helmet needs are. -CK

      Mostly around town and some long trips on the thru way. With occasional track days. I am looking for light, comfortable, does not have to be super quite, but don't want it to be overly loud. Really good venting system for hot weather is very important to me. I ride a sports bike, but not a super sport.

      If you are an occasional track guy, I think the RX-Q is better suited with the SNELL rating and the lightness factor. The Airframe may be slightly better vented, but you could also consider the Arai Defiant if venting is a deal breaker. -CK
