I also learned that I was the *best* mother before I had kids. I had all the answers, knew that I absolutely would *never* put up with _________ [fill in the blank], and had very concrete opinions on how the whole "working Mom" thing would go down.
My *first* clue that I might be talking out of my ass was my mother-in-law nodding with a "wise old sage" look on her face, a slight shrug of the shoulders and "Ya. OK. That *might* work".
Yes, I bred a picky eater that I catered to until she started menstruating and then ate anything in the house. Yes, I gave birth to a child with night terrors and sleep problems that lasted seven years. Finally, yes, I learned quickly that I didn't know shit and we're all just doing the best we can to get through the day.
*After* I had a kid, I spent a 3-hour flight seated next to a new mom. I entertained the baby and Mom actually got an hour nap. She awoke with such a start. "It's OK, she's right here, it's all good". The look of relief and freshness on her face was ... just priceless. It's one of the nicest things I'm very proud of.

  • @roberta_
    @roberta_ 2 года назад +304

OK.. so I have a 3 year old. She saw my menstrual cup on the side of the sink, asked what it was. I gave her a brief talk about vaginas and periods in very simple terms.
Then she shouted to all the parents and nursery staff outside pre-school that "MY MUMMY HAS A TOY IN HER BUM".
I just got in my car and drove away.

As a proud haver of no kids at nearly 40, I will have to declare that parenthood is not a default future for all childless humans. Also, I've seen Charlotte mention not really wanting kids for herself, so at the end of the day, the answer is: because a grown woman made a life decision for herself and it is the social and moral responsibility of the rest of us humans, to respect it. Including if it changes in the future, and solely because she decided. That's the only 'reason why' that matters; anything else is heresay, conjecture or unwarranted opinion in either direction.
That said, I think she'd make a great mother if she wanted to become one. But then again, many people say I'd make an excellent father - doesn't make me want kids, tho.

    • @Aurochhunter
      @Aurochhunter 2 года назад +1

Bob Shipley has a point. My sister had one child and later decided no more. Being a parent is never an easy job, but most children do actually behave most of the time and only give you occasional moments of grief; but there’s those few that seem hell bent on being as difficult as possible, my nephew is one of those children.

My mom and dad’s worst fail was probably when my first word was a cuss word.
It was Thanksgiving, some of our family was there, I was eating on my high chair. Suddenly my food I was eating fell off my little kiddie fork on the floor.
Now keep in mind, I was a little over a year old and never said a single thing until now.
According to my parents, I leaned over, looked down at my food, and said in the most clear voice, *“Ah sh*t!”*
Everyone froze and my parents were mortified.
I finally heard the story when I turned 18 last year and I still find it hilarious. It explains why they were so strict about me cussing growing up too (as in I was forbidden from saying “frick” “fudge” and “heck” for a while when I was 17 because “a teacher could overhear and think you said the real word”)

Way back in the way back, my brother's wedding reception was a blast! I think I won the bad-mom award. The bartenders put the "nonalcoholic" punch on a table for everyone to partake. An hour or so later, two of my three children (Age 4 and age 7) are weaving and wobbly. Their speech was slurred and my youngest sat under one of the dining tables rocking back and forth.
I was baffled! My oldest (age 8) complained that the sherbet punch tasted bad. My other two children happily drank all of theirs and went back for another cup.
The staff put out the wrong punch bowl! My wee tots were three sheets in the wind! I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry. Maybe both. :D
    Another hilarious video! Thank you!

Being a parent kind of is a lot like getting to relive your childhood - you still have all the parental and adult responsibilities but watching my infant daughter experience different things for the first time is a lot of fun and as she gets older and is able to talk, interact more and pay attention to things for longer, it'll be even more fun. In part, I decided to have a child because life got so repetitive and boring and even holidays had lost most of their former glory. Life feels a lot more meaningful now that my daughter is part of it

    I’ve actually been Mason before!
When I was five, my dad had moonshine in a gallon jug with fruit in it and it wasn’t labeled. I poured half a juice glass of it, took a gulp, spit the rest out, ate a grape that was in it (I think it was a grape), dumped the drink down the sink, and went on about my day. My dad realized I was extra goofy and complained I was dizzy, asked if I had anything to eat or drink.
I said I had some of his fruit water, then complained it burned my tongue and throat. Dad had to call mom (he had me for the weekend), and let me tell y’all, mom was PISSED.
Apparently he never labeled it because he FORGOT I COULD READ, and I was supposed to ask to get anything to drink that isn’t water. My mom pointed out his moonshine looked like water, called him an idiot, and cussed him up one side and down the other.
He started labeling it “fire water”. I turn 29 on Sunday and still don’t like moonshine.

I’m a mom of two toddlers. I was sick for the entire month of April and my house is still recovering from the colossal mess because I could only do the bare minimum for my girls. It’s nice to see that other moms struggle too.

Oh, luv...! We ALL struggle! Pretty much daily, tbh! Go easier on yourself, and no more self-criticism! It does NOT help. Just realize if u did something wrong, and determine to do it differently next time. Apologize to the kid/kids, if necessary. 😊👍❤

I love that you're working with a Mental Health organization! I actually have pretty serious PTSD, Anxiety, and am Bipolar Depressive. I had a very serious meltdown episode that landed me in the Emergency Department for an Eval /Reset so, this was comforting to see. Much Love! 😢😘😘❤❤💖💖👍👍

I used to make my own gummie candies (they were TARDISes and Daleks). It was fairly easy and straightforward. Only slightly more difficult than making Jello.

Charlotte, I bet would make a really great mom some day. Also kudos for acknowledging mental health awareness month. 💙 I see a therapist, and have found that it's incredibly helpful in dealing with things I've just boxed away mentally. And it's nothing to be embarrassed about. Anyone dealing with mental health issues like myself, I wish you the best of luck ❤💙💜

I remember going to lunch with my husband and our then toddler. We were seated at a table next to a Mom's group. One of the moms was missing that week, apparently, and the rest of the group spent the entire time talking cr*p not just about her, but about her CHILD. Apparently he wasn't hitting his developmental milestones as quickly as the others and they thought it was just fine to talk smack about an 18 month-old.
That's the moment I decided I'd never join one of those groups.

Charlotte, don’t feel pressured into the Santa lie when/if you become a parent.
As someone raised without Santa who is now raising my own children without Santa, Christmas is still a magical, wonderful and enriching time of year without him, I promise.

I dunno but I think moonshine mama (aka Mason’s mom) with baby’s first hangover should rightfully pass this “fail” onto dad. I don’t like to share my alcohol let alone with a lightweight 😉 and how do you not notice your little one swiping sips of your everclear?! C’mon dad, do better.

That bothered me too. No excuse for allowing a little one to ingest poison, and that stuff is poison!
If I were her, I'd keep a better watch on dad.
Did she say they have triplets? Yikes! I had trouble keeping up with one, and he wasn't a particularly difficult toddler. I kind of gave up wearing makeup when I got to work with eyeliner on one eye but not the other because I was interrupted. A coworker said I looked like a character from "A Clockwork Orange", didn't know what he meant until I looked in the mirror! My boss was nice, and told me I could wait until I got to work to apply makeup on company time.

I can say with absolute certainty that, as someone who has been taking care of children for most of my life, being able to do little kids things is one of the best parts of taking care of kids. I get to use the playground equipment, I get to draw with chalk, I get to do arts and crafts, watch little kids movies that I haven't seen in years, eat dinosaur nuggets, etc. It's so much fun
